350 West Mart Center is the official name of the 24-floor multipurpose building located in the Near North Sidecommunity area of Chicago, at the intersection of the North Branch and the Main Branch of the Chicago River. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in 1977, the building is located in the River North district north of the Main Branch and east of the North Branch. In 1988, Helmut Jahn designed an enclosed pedestrian walking bridge over Orleans Street connecting the building to Merchandise Mart. Originally built to serve as the world's largest wholesale buying center for the apparel industry, the building is more commonly known by several other names including Holiday Inn Chicago-Mart Plaza, Holiday Inn Mart, Merchandise Mart Annex, Merchandise Mart Annex Apparel Center, Apparel Mart, Chicago Apparel Center and Apparel Center. The building opened on November 6, 1976. The property was formerly owned by Marshall Field who sold it to Joseph P. Kennedy and the building's grand opening was attended by the entire Kennedy family. The family owned the land upon which the building was constructed for over 50 years. After the building was constructed in 1976, it remained in the family for over 20 years, but it was sold to Vornado Realty Trust in 1998 as part of a larger $625 million ($1,168.3 million today) transaction including Merchandise Mart and several other properties. However, the family has retained its ownership interest in adjacent properties and continues to manage the Marchandise Mart business.

This is a discography for the Smoking Popes, a pop punk band from Lake in the Hills, Illinois. The Smoking Popes have released four studio albums, a compilation album, two live albums, four extended plays (EPs), and seven singles. The group was founded in 1991 by Mike Felumlee (drums) and brothers Matt (bass guitar), Eli (guitar), and Josh Caterer (guitar, vocals). After releasing three independent EPs, the Popes signed with local punk rockrecord labelJohann's Face Records. Johann's Face issued a fourth EP and the Popes' first two studio albums—Get Fired and Born to Quit. EMI subsidiary Capitol Records signed the band and re-released Born to Quit in 1995, yielding a minor hit on punk rock radio stations with "Need You Around". The Smoking Popes released their third album through Capitol in 1997 and broke up the following year. To fulfill their contract with Capitol Records, the band recorded an album of cover songs, which was rejected for release by the label. The Popes were dormant until they reunited in late 2005. The band played a reunion show on November 11, 2005, recording and releasing the concert through Felumlee's Double Zero Records. They are currently working on a fourth studio album for Flameshovel Records.

Sandra "Sandi" Jackson (née Stevens, formerly Sandra Lee Stevens), was elected to the Chicago City Council as an alderman of the 7th ward (map) in the 2007 municipal elections held on February 27, 2007. She succeeds Darcel A. Beavers who had been appointed by Chicago MayorRichard M. Daley after the 2006 November elections to succeed her father William Beavers, Jackson's rival, as alderman of the 7th Ward. She is the wife of U.S. Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. and daughter-in-law of Jesse Jackson. Her candidacy for the city council of a major city was part of national news stories in The New York Times, and thoughts of her running for a position in the United States House of Representatives was noted in Time. Jackson has also been a long-time political consultant through her solely owned consulting firm J. Donatella & Associates.
Hull House was co-founded in 1889, in Chicago, Illinois, by Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr and is located in the Near West Sidecommunity area of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It was one of the first settlement houses in the U.S. and eventually grew into one of the largest, with facilities in 13 buildings. Because of the Hull House’s social, educational and artistic programs, it earned a reputation as the best-known settlement house in the U.S. and became the standard bearer for the movement that included almost 500 settlements nationally by 1920. The original building and several subsequent acquisitions were continuously renovated to accommodate the changing demands of the association. The original building and one additional building (which has been moved 200 yards) survive today. The original building was designated a Chicago Landmark on June 12, 1974. It was designated as a U.S. National Historic Landmark on June 23, 1965. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966, which is the day that the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 was enacted creating the register.
