St Michael's College is a roman-catholic, co-educational, non-state secondary school in Gold Coast, Queensland.[1] It is one of 145 Brisbane Catholic Education schools in south east Queensland.
St Michael's College opened on 4 February 1985.[2]
History[edit]
Region[edit]
St Michael’s College, originally St Michael’s Catholic High School, was named for its patron saint, St Michael the Archangel.[3][4] The school adopted the Griffin as its mascot, in honor of the mythical creature that represents courage and strength. Griffin is also a Latin term used as a symbol of divine power and protection.[5]
The school grounds are bordered on the east and south by Jondique Avenue, a residential street that connects to Gooding Drive. To the north and west are several houses and a park. The campus is situated high on the hill at Merrimac, enjoying coastal breezes and expansive views of the coastline. The campus hosts various events and activities, such as the College Open Day, the College Production, the Evening of Excellence, and the Senior Farewell.
Development[edit]
Court cases[edit]
A former student of St Michael’s College, filed a complaint in the Southport District Court against the school for $750,000, claiming that he fractured his ankle on a wet oval during a PE class in 2015. He says that the school was negligent, and that the injury ruined his chances of becoming a pilot. The school denies any wrongdoing and says that the student was partly to blame and that his claim is unrealistic. [6]
