The Canton Ticino Football Association is a team representing the Swiss Canton of Ticino in association football. They are not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA, and therefore cannot compete for the FIFA World Cup or the UEFA European Championship.
It is a member of ConIFA, an umbrella association for states, minorities, stateless people and regions unaffiliated with FIFA[1]
History[edit]
The Canton of Ticino national football team's foundation dates back to 2022. They represent the southern part of the Canton.[1]
The team has been an active member of ConIFA since 2023. They have played three matches: one national, against Real Cugnasco, and two international.
The first international match was for the CONIFA World Football Cup Playoff, while the second against Raetia.[2] Both ended in defeat.[1][3]
During the first months of 2023, the team also received notoriety in countries outside the canton of Ticino, thus being named in the Brazilian newspaper O Globo, and during L'eredità, a famous Italian programme.
