Angela Kate Haer is a Canadian politician, educator, and entrepreneur serving as a Park Board Commissioner in Vancouver, British Columbia. She was elected in the 2022 municipal elections as a member of the ABC (A Better City) party, under the leadership of Mayor Ken Sim. She is currently running for the Progressive Conservative Party nomination in the South Granville riding of Vancouver..[1]

Angela Haer holds a Master's Degree in Education from McGill University, specializing in Counseling Psychology. Her academic pursuits included extensive research with Indigenous communities in Kuujjuaq and Montreal, Quebec.

Career[edit]

Prior to her political career, Haer worked as an educator in Surrey and co-founded several businesses, including a Health Canada-licensed medical cannabis facility aimed at aiding veterans with pain and PTSD management, in collaboration with the University of Alberta[2] [3]

As a Park Board Commissioner, Haer has been involved in various initiatives to enhance community spaces and public parks in Vancouver. Her notable actions include advocating for the removal of the temporary Stanley Park Bike lane and the restoration of the Jericho Beach Pier[4]

Haer is a mother of three and resides in Dunbar, Vancouver. She is actively involved in community service and volunteers extensively across the city.[5]

Legacy and Recognition[edit]

Angela Haer is also noted for her familial connection to Tara Singh Hayer, a respected journalist and her uncle, who founded the "Indo-Canadian Times," the largest Punjabi-language weekly in North America. Hayer was assassinated in 1998 due to his outspoken stance against extremist violence, an event that has had a lasting impact on the family and community.
