Untitled[edit]

I'm of two minds in how to edit this page. As it stands (before I make any changes), its called 'Units of amount of substance', and has only 3 entries, for three Avagadro-based units. It neglects, for example, the Faraday, which is a unit of electrical charge (not of substance) based on a Mole of electrons.

If we want it to be purely an Avagadro-based units category (as it claims to be), we should include the Faraday, but then we should rename it to something like 'Avagadro's-Number-based Units' (which I note violates how all of the other unit subcategories are named). If we go that route, then it will never be a very big category.

I'm more inclined to change it to simply 'Units of amount', so that there would be a place to put the dozen, baker's dozen, gross, great gross and similar measures into the units category, as they are arguably just as much units as the mole is.

Then again, if we go that route, where does it stop? Do we add ten, hundred, thousand and similar numbers here as well? It seems a bit of a slippery slope.

So, having written this, I think I'm going the latter route, but I'm certainly not sure about it. I would love to know what others think. Swestrup 21:58, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
