Early life and education[edit]

Undurraga was born in Santiago on 17 June 1969. He studied at the Colegio San Ignacio and Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He joined the Christian Democratic Party as a student in 1988, during Chile's transition to democracy.

Political career[edit]

In the early 1990s, Undurraga was president of the Student's Federation while studying at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. In 2004, he was elected mayor of Maipú, a city in the greater Santiago area, serving in that capacity until 2012.
