Current requests for increase in protection level[edit]

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Current requests for reduction in protection level[edit]

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page[edit]

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Israel-Hamas War[edit]

I would like to request that... (the map be updated to show that Israel now controls the entire Gaza-Egypt border) . LordOfWalruses (talk) 15:25, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

@LordOfWalruses this is not the place. Contentious topics should not be unprotected. 48JCLTALK 12:42, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
@48JCL: Unregistered and non-extended-confirmed editors are allowed to request edits to ARBPIA pages here. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 15:09, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
The talk page Talk:Israel-Hamas War is protected, therefore edit requests by non-extended-confirmed users land here. That is acceptable, and this request made above is reasonable. The people who actually do participate on that talk page should be reviewing requests here that remain open and haven't been declined for days. ~Anachronist (talk) 20:30, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
So basically, I shouldn’t request an edit here but I should request an edit at the talk page (and the same goes for future edit requests)? LordOfWalruses (talk) 12:40, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
@LordOfWalruses:, it is unusual for talk pages within scope of the WP:PIA remedies to be extendedconfirmed protected (). That normally only happens after a high level of disruption. You can normally submit edit requests to talk pages. Edit requests most likely to succeed are those that are 'Specific, Uncontroversial, Necessary, Sensible' per WP:EDITXY. You can also submit them here if you prefer, there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, I think there are arguments in favor of centralizing all edit requests for WP:PIA to a single location as long as active editors add it to their watchlists (which is probably not the case right now to a large extent). Submitting edit requests to an article talk page obviously means that only a subset of the community who happen to have watch listed that particular page are likely to see it. Israel-Hamas War[edit]

I would like to request that... The casualties in Gaza for the Hamas/Gaza side be separated into civilian casualties and militant casualties . Not only would this give a better understanding of the civilian/militant death ratio, but it would also bring the Gazan side in line with the Israeli side (which has civilian and military casualties of the October 7th attack in two different groups). . Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled[edit]

User:SheriffIsInTown[edit]

I frequently create articles on notable subjects, having authored 530 articles, with the majority facing no issues. Only three were deleted, mainly due to changes in election results affecting their notability. I'm requesting autopatroller rights to ease the burden on other editors reviewing my articles and help reduce the backlog of new article reviews. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 23:36, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

With all due respect to this user, I would suggest admins look at User_talk:SheriffIsInTown#Unreferenced_articles_drive. Mach61 06:58, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

User:Sanslogique[edit]

Hello. I would like to request Autopatrolled rights on the advice of user Broc, who appreciated my editorial skills. I have created more than 140 articles, mostly music-related. (I also have these rights in Russian Wikipedia.) Sanslogique (talk) 14:17, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

I stumbled across Sanslogique's music-related articles more than once as part of NPP, and found them of high quality. They show understanding of WP:NMUSIC, their pages are well written and sourced, and I did not see any copyright problems, that's why I suggested them to apply for autopatrolled rights. User:Losipov[edit]

I'm applying for autopatrolled rights for a second time, with my first request being denied in April 2023. The reason for that decline was that my previous articles were tagged for "notability". Since then, I have worked on bringing articles over from the Russian Wikipedia and have had relatively few problems when other editors were reviewing them (I don't bring over everything from those respective pages, so I add a tag for expanding from Russian to let others know that information is still there). I feel like I have learned from what I was doing wrong, and in the process, I have made dozens more articles since the decline. Therefore, I respectfully request that I be granted the autopatrolled permission this time around. Thanks in advance for your consideration. Losipov (talk) 17:23, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Not done I came close to granting this, the stuff you are bringing over from the Russian Wikipedia generally looks pretty good, however, you very recently had aBLP article you created deleted for being improperly sourced. That suggests your creations should continue to be reviewed by others. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 22:38, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

User:Ednabrenze[edit]

I regularly create new articles until I took a break to focus on work and studies. I have now concluded the studies and have retuned to creating new articles. I am requesting this right to help bring down the large number of articles waiting for reviewers attentions as articles I create will no longer join the queue if this is granted. Ednabrenze (talk) 02:50, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

Not done Your creations are generally ok, no red flags, but they come off a little bare-bones and should probably still be reviewed. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 22:49, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the comment. You said the articles are generally ok "but they come off a little bare-bones and should probably still be reviewed". Are they policy or guideline breaches? Could you please explain what this mean so that I can learn from it. But if you're referring to the size of the articles, I write based on the material available and what could be supported with reliable independent secondary sources. If there are no policy breaches, I request that you reconsider it. Cheers! Ednabrenze (talk) 05:05, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
Just so you know, Just Step Sideways, I've had a further look following Ednabrenze's request. I didn't get any further than their latest article. I edited the article in small steps so that the edit summaries give a detailed report what needed fixing. Each edit dealt with one to three issues only. In total, I made eighteen edits. Ednabrenze, the expectation is that editors who get autopatrolled are able to consistently produce clean articles that are free of issues. The Charles Okah edits show that you aren't there yet. User:Koavf[edit]

For months I've been enforcing WP:GRP#Global rollbackers/Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers/Archive 37#Autopatrol and global rollback by manually marking Koavf's articles as unreviewed after their autopatrolled permission was revoked as a consequence of events having nothing to do with autopatrolled in January 2024. Since none of those articles have needed significant attention from new page patrol AFAICS, I suggest that user right be restored. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:37, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

The entry in the rights log says "May appeal removal with a consensus at WP:AN per current convention." I'm not sure that's actually binding though. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 21:40, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Looking over the permission, and as "edit-warring" was the rationale, I went ahead and restored the userright, since this is an auto-action and not itself an "active edit". If this ends up also being an issue, any uninvolved admin is welcome to re-remove without contacting me.
As for restoration of other user-rights, just follow whatever the current convention for appeal is. My understanding is that would be a consensus at WP:AN. To find out if perhaps there is some other convention, likely also requires a consensus at WP:AN, so either way, I think WP:AN is likely where such discussions are likely to end up. I hope this helps. - jc37 01:35, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

Not done Hi Davidindia, I would like to enable AWB for you, but I am curious about the large number of minor editing mistakes brought up on your talk page (CS1 errors and disambiguation link errors, other issues with references etc). I think I would be a bit more comfortable with enabling AWB with a month or two more of experience without making these types of errors. With AWB, small errors can be systematically introduced into many articles, so it is important to be very precise. I hope that makes sense. Malinaccier (talk) 20:31, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer[edit]

User:IgnatiusofLondon[edit]

I was a new page reviewer until earlier this month. As my curation log suggests, while this wasn't the focus of my wikiediting, I occasionally dipped into the backlog to review new articles, a fair few of which I draftified or sent to AfD (so they weren't all easy!). I think my reviews were adequately accurate to demonstrate my suitability for the permission, and I'd like to continue helping to reduce the backlog as my wikiediting time allows. Thanks! IgnatiusofLondon (he/him☎️) 20:19, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

Courtesy ping for @Red-tailed hawk, who first offered me trial permissions. IgnatiusofLondon (he/him☎️) 20:21, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
@IgnatiusofLondon: I'm afraid your draftify log raises several questions:
  1. User:Russellmorden/Economics of Gold was technically outside of WP:NPPHOUR, but from the edit summary and placeholder sections it should have been pretty clear that the creator was still working on it (see WP:DONTDRAFTIFY#5). Wouldn't an {{unsourced}} tag have been sufficient?
  2. Draft:Belarus–Maldives relations has 21 inline citations for less than 50 characters of prose and two tables, yet you draftified it as "needing more sources". On the creator's talk page you specified that what was missing sources discussing and explaining the international relations between Belarus and the Maldives, not simply side-by-side fact profiles about the countries' basic information. What is the policy basis for excluding an article lacking such sources from mainspace?
  3. Draft:Battle of Orurillo was also draftified for lacking sources. Why was the {{unreferenced}} tag, already added by another reviewer, not sufficient? Did you note that there is a Spanish article on the same battle that does cite sources?
  4. Also on Draft:Battle of Orurillo, this is a clear attempt to revert your draftification. Why did you move it back to draftspace, instead of mainspace?
  5. Did you not notice that Draft:Recapture of Fort Vaux had previously been moved to mainspace by the creator, and was thus ineligible for draftification per WP:DONTDRAFTIFY#6?
  6. Draft:Recapture of Fort Vaux is a lengthy article, apparently translated or adapted from fr:Reprise du fort de Vaux, with 121 inline citations. The reasons you gave for draftifying it include an essay-like tone, overuse of primary sources, and possibility of a merge. Why could these issues not be addressed in mainspace?
I do appreciate that you took the time to leave specific feedback for the creators of each of these articles, rather than only relying on the script's canned reasons, but I'm worried that you are applying a significantly higher standard to new articles in mainspace than the community expects from new page patrol, and would appreciate it if you could reflect on your approach before any extension of the NPR right. – Joe (talk) 14:18, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Trial ends June 16, and backlog drive is nearly over. I am reapplying early since some requests may not be answered after two weeks from now. Experienced editor wanting to contribute to the new page backlog. I was recently granted a trial and did review some pages during that time, but I believe the trial has now expired. Requesting permanent New Page Reviewer permission based on those reviews and my experience in page creations and deletion discussions. PK-WIKI (talk) 22:54, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

@PK-WIKI: As far as I can tell you only reviewed two articles during your last trial. I don't mean to be rude—every review helps—but how do you expect us to make a judgement based on that? I can grant you a third trial, but are you honestly going to use it? – Joe (talk) 13:46, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
A third trial would be appreciated. Part of the problem is that I apply for the permission, wait X days for it to be approved, don't notice it's approved as I'm busy doing other things. Then the moment I wanted to review has now passed and the trial eventually expires. I will hopefully do enough to have it set permanently this time... PK-WIKI (talk) 20:13, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Not done. Thank you for volunteering, but in reviewing your editing history I wasn't able to find sufficient experience with the deletion process to feel comfortable granting you the permission at this point in time. I encourage you to spend some time at WP:AFD and make policy based votes to show that you're comfortable evaluating notability. Hey, I have done much AfC reviewing, reviewed over 430 articles, and participated in many AfDs with deep discussions to demonstrate my understanding of Wikipedia's guidelines. I was advised to gain more experience with the deletion process, and I believe I have done so. My previous PERM was declined, saying that my AfDs were SNOWING, which I have since addressed. I think I am ready to review new articles. There is a very big backlog, and I want to help reduce it. GrabUp - Talk 13:24, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Not done. You have been told by two administrators to wait a couple months before requesting this permission. Please listen to their advice. —Ingenuity (t • c) 13:48, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
@Ingenuity I asked them there Whatever, you said, “Just develop a meaningful track record.” Does that mean I don’t have a good track record now? Are my AfD participations still WP:SNOW, or have I engaged in deeper discussions to show my knowledge? I want to know where my main problem is!, But they didn't replied which is the reason my PERM here, I want to ask you the question. Can you answer please? GrabUp - Talk 13:50, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
Yesterday, after you sought feedback, Extraordinary Writ told you to wait. You later reached out to The Night Watch who also did so. Your efforts are appreciated, but when people tell you to slow down and keep working at it, you should do so instead of ignoring the advice given to you. You've mentioned tagging articles, but I think you're missing a lot when you try to do so, so perhaps get more familiar with the possible maintenance tags that can be added. Also, I dislike that you're accepting your own AFC submissions a minute after creating and submitting the articles (Rajpalsinh Mahendrasinh Jadav, Hemant Joshi (politician), Anita Subhadarshini), it unnecessarily inflates your stats. If you plan on immediately "accepting" your own submission then just create it in main space. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:56, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
I tried to reply to this without reloading the page and saw that Ingenuity had already done so. Leaving my comment but removing the not done template, since Ingenuity has that covered. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:59, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
@Hey man im josh: I saw an admin doing it, which is why I do it too. However, these articles were only created today or yesterday. GrabUp - Talk 13:58, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
@Hey man im josh: Can you respond to what I said above? If I had been given an answer to my question there, I would not have come here. GrabUp - Talk 14:09, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
  • Extraordinary Writ, also said in his feedback It's up to you when you want to make the PERM request; the reviewing admin (who won't be me) will decide at that point whether you have enough experience. and you are all declining the request just because they said 'moving very quickly'? I came here to PERM because I was not answered when I questioned them on the Talk page and here again about the specific problem behind the decline. GrabUp - Talk 14:44, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
@Hey man im josh, @Ingenuity: Why aren’t you responding? Please answer my question that brought me here. GrabUp - Talk 16:32, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
Nice. When they have nothing right to counter me, they just ignore me. I could have had a trial, but no, they just declined because of the so-called "Moving Quickly." Anyways, I am giving up. I will come back on August 5, 2024, as suggested by admins and then I will see how you treat me. Thanks Josh and Ingenuity. GrabUp - Talk 07:51, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Please do not bother. Admins responding to PERM requests are volunteers, like you, and are not obligated to respond to you within 24 hours or keep explaining things to you until you are satisfied. The attitude you have displayed here is not what we want from new page patrollers. – Joe (talk) 08:16, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
@Joe Roe: I agree with you, but they should at least tell me my faults, and then I will do my best to fix them! Without pointing out any problems, they are declining because of only “moving quickly”. This attitude is not from the beginning; it developed because of their behavior. GrabUp - Talk 08:35, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Extraordinary said that It's up to you when you want to make the PERM request; the reviewing admin (who won't be me) will decide at that point whether you have enough experience. , Then why did they use his views to decline without checking my work? Do you also think that I have no experience at all for the NPP trial? GrabUp - Talk 08:49, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
@Grabup: It looks like you're just trying to check boxes for permissions that you haven't shown enough experience to properly utilize. This is your fourth declined request, you spam the discussion without giving us adequate time to respond, and then you get upset that we haven't immediately responded to you? Your temperament, impatience, and inexperience is extremely clear to reviewing admins. Your solution after multiple people told you to wait was to immediately request the perm, that screams, to me, that you do not take criticism or guidance well. If you think "moving quickly" is the only issue then youve got selective hearing.
Wait 3 months, at least. You will not have fixed the issue that throw up red flags to so many different declining admins. Do not make a request every month just to make one. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:09, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
8 replies, multiple admins pinged, and a lack of patience. Is that REALLY how you expect to prove that you're capable and competent? That's how you bug people into taking more notice of your flaws. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:11, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
@Hey man im josh: I did not ask for immediate replies. You can see the time differences; they can’t be labeled as “immediate.” I simply asked what things I need to fix. But you have not clearly said anything. Adding tags for more citations and more categories are very minor things, and I thought I would add them later, which is why I didn’t add them initially. You have not cited any issues other than “moving quickly.” Extraordinary already said, “It is up to you whenever you want to request the permission, and another admin will check my work to determine my experience.” You have not determined my experience from my work; rather, you are just declining because they suggested waiting. Anyway, please clearly tell me the reason behind my decline. Which WP:NPPCRITERIA do I fail? And please be straightforward; don’t keep saying “wait.” I have been on Wikipedia for more than 2 years. I've been going through the new pages feed for a while now without the right, to clean up new pages and nominate for CSD those pages that fall under the criteria, (at least 50 by now, weird how the log is a red link) and I've also participated in AfD and other deletion venues as well. The reviewer right should help when going through the new pages feed as I have been doing to better help misguided editors and to more efficiently go through new articles, and of course reduce the almost 10000-tall backlog that still wasn't gotten rid of in the May backlog drive. Hello! I'm requesting New Pages Reviewer rights because I'd love to contribute to reviewing the backlog of new articles. My experience as an AFC reviewer and participant in AfD discussions demonstrates my understanding of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I actively combat vandalism and have a strong grasp of CSD criteria. I'm a pending changes reviewer and a rollbacker as well. I have made more than 10,000 edits, and I'm eager to review new pages. Thanks! Waqar💬 09:18, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Not done. @Iwaqarhashmi: You have done a lot of work at AFC, but you have only accepted 1 draft while declining 346... Your declines may be valid, but that's a strange ratio that gave me a bit of pause because I like to evaluate what applicants have accepted. Your AFD logs are also all recent work, but what I find concerning is that every single vote you cast was done after consensus was already achieved. Your votes are typically pointing to other people's comments, which is sometimes fine, but I'm not finding examples of you using your own words to describe why something does not or does not meet notability guidelines. Despite the numbers, I'm not seeing enough experience where you exhibit knowledge of notability to feel comfortable granting the permission at this point in time. I encourage you to re-apply, but I'd like to see you accept some stuff at AFC and participate in AFDs in a way that doesn't come across as pile on voting. "Do you want to take a survey?"[edit]

On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.
