New article announcements for the Project Ottoman Empire is a valuable contribution. I would like to thank Alex Bakharev for his efforts. However I observe that the scope is overextended. Many of the listed topics have no relation to Ottoman Empire. For example as for today (20th of Sep.) I couldn't find anything about Ottoman Empire in the following topics :

Turkey at the 2010 World Women's Boxing Championship • Uğur Demirok • Richard Foltz  • Ayhan Gezen • Unknown Soldier (Statue) • Kadıköy İnciburnu Feneri • Ismail ibn Hammad al-Jawhari • Khyam Allami • Water supply and sanitation in Turkey • Fenerbahçe (Istanbul neighbourhood) • Argela • Gökhan Öztürk • Koray Holding • Sylvia Tiryaki  • Mensur Akgun.

To be sure these articles refer to Turkey. But in Wikipedia Turkey is a subject of another project and these articles have nothing to do with the Ottoman Empire (like soccer players of today). I wonder if it is possible to narrow the new article search ? Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 06:37, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

When I created the search page, the reason I added "Turk*" to the parameters was twofold. First, the Ottoman Empire is often referred to as "Turkey" and the Ottomans as "Turks". There have been articles where the word "Ottoman" was not mentioned at all or a handful of times, with "Turks"/"Turkish"/etc used instead. Second, many topics related to modern Turkey have their origins in Ottoman times, e.g. architecture, institutions or localities (like Fenerbahçe above), and sometimes, "Ottoman" is scarcely mentioned in these articles too. I tried to exclude references to the modern Turkish republic, but given the vagueness of the term "Turkey" and its relates terms, it was evidently in vain. Plus, given that this was a new project, I felt that a broader search was required if we were not to miss anything. This is a rather general problem, for instance the search bot for WPGreece includes results for Greek Revival architecture, sports teams called "Spartans", or athletes who competed for a single time in Greece. Feel free to tweak around if you want, and add/remove any parameters if you think the search result will be narrowed down. Best regards, Constantine 10:57, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
PS, this link is also useful for finding new articles, but they have to have been categorized first. Constantine 22:06, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
