Are we going on the assumption that every university or college in the world is notable and deserving of an article? I just wrote a stub for University of Berkley and am now rather doubting that it should exist... Cpastern 20:07, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eh, why not - consider - List of unaccredited institutions of higher learning. There are lots of blue links there. --Reflex Reaction (talk)• 20:44, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I feel that every university or college in the world IS notable and deserves an article of its own. --Siva1979Talk to me 20:58, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A couple other things that probably should have been discussed earlier... how aggressive should we be about names being in English? I rather believe that everything should be titled in English... however, some institutions are insisting that their "English" names are the same as their native names, and others without English websites are hard to determine, and Google searches often find a variety of English translations without a dominating version. I think that the style guidelines suggest that if an official English translation isn't available, a reasonable one should be given. How do we feel about it?

Secondly, what to do about universities that are defunct. I think that independent articles are most of the time questionable for such schools, except in the cases where they were very well known and the article covers a significant history, for example, Radcliffe College. Otherwise, I think they should be merged, and if the articles don't exist already, be taken off the list. As for the defunct schools that keep their articles, I think we should just skip the infoboxes for the obvious reason of lack of info. In the same vein, for schools like the aforementioned University of Berkley we will probably never find good info for the boxes, so again, I would suggest just making the stub and taking it off the list. Sorry if this is obvious, but I didn't want to go ahead making unilateral decisions about the project. Cpastern 20:27, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adding or Updating this List[edit]

I'm guessing, since it says this list "... was compiled from the List of colleges and universities" (which is a huge tree), this article is maintained through some kind of bot and therefore no one should add to this list? But what do I do if I see some missing colleges that aren't showing up on this list, such as "Naugatuck Valley Community College" among others that are on List of community colleges#Connecticut (were also redundantly listed on List of colleges and universities in Connecticut#Associate.27s since 29 April 2006? --Georgeryp 19:01, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
