Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Overall benefit

I've tried to put Dance and health into suitable categories. It seems to me though that people split up physical and mental fitness into two separate categories and the concept that things like tai chi, dance, or martial arts could have overall psychological as well as physical health aspects doesn't seem to fit in well anywhere. Swimming pool sanitation

I've just added the article Swimming pool sanitation to this WikiProject; it needs a lot of work and, I believe, a great deal of uncited information contained within it is not encyclopedic and some of it is not even correct. For example, I think it makes no sense to lead off with a detailed discussion of specific pool equipment -- although a shorter version of that probably should be somewhere else in the article. I'd like to invite anyone here to take a look at the article and try their hand at editing it. I am declining to be bold in my edits because I have a potential conflict in that its subject matter is of interest to a client of my employer. For example, they have pointed out to me that chlorine is not mentioned until the second half, although chlorine systems are very common. I tend to agree, but I've done only a small amount of work on the article and want to see if anyone else might be interested in the article or, if you would, offer advice and feedback on edits I may make further. 3O Requested at Kundalini Yoga page - Idiosyncratic Warnings

Hi guys. Thanks for all your great work. It's really appreciated.

Sorry to bring this to your doorstep, but I have an ongoing dispute situation with a user Atmapuri over the content presented at the top of the Kundalini Yoga page. Needless to say we got carried away and the page is now blocked until Feb 3rd. My main gripe with this editor is that is an edit warrior - he has done so in his past, and he has no concept of editing towards consensus or how references and editing work. He has reverted numerous edits to his same exact edits, while I have tried to shape and improve the page, its relevance and legitimacy.

The big issue for now is that the editor in question is determined to link "kundalini yoga" with "kundalini syndrome". Bad enough that he wants to keep this reference up top, but it's also a complete error in linking the two together. "kundalini syndrome" refers to kundalini energy, and not to the yoga form. Check the page yourself. Additionally, his reference material is primary source and opinion based. Even the "kundliani syndrome" page as a whole is marked as unprofessional (needing professional validation). Basically, he is giving this form of yoga a bad name, while referencing and citing material that is tenuous at best. And when I have added in material to refute this, or offer an alternative view, he has straight up deleted my references and citations, while commenting "If you want to change something add your own text and reference." Needless to say, it's been difficult.

My request is, can you give a third party review of this and establish that, on the grounds that "Kundalini Syndrome" refers to a spiritual energy source that can be "spontaneously generated", or "awoken" through any number of spiritual practices, it therefore has no definitive linking with any one style of Yoga. And as such, I propose that:

• A) Kundalini Yoga is not linked to "Kundalini Syndrome" in word or reference.
• B) Since Kundalini Syndrome itself in a non-professional term with dubious scientific value or validation, that it not be considered a valid reference source (internally).
• C) That Kundalini Syndrome is only speaking about Kundalini energy, and not directly with the Yoga form by the same name.
• D) And finally, strike all references to "Kundalini Syndrome" from the Kundalini Yoga pages under the fact that it is misleading, negative and erroneous.

As for (D), Wikipedia has absolutely no objection to including "negative" information.

If there is a source that directly associates the syndrome with the yoga, then WP:DUE probably requires the syndrome article to mention the yoga form, and the yoga article to mention the syndrome. WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:57, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Please help with a 3O at this page: Talk Discussion. I don't understand if people do or don't read carefully before writing, but as it has already been stated: Kundalini Yoga itself is NOT directly associated with Kundalini Syndrome (It just shares the same first name - ask Obama if he's related to Osama?). CrossFit

The CrossFit article has been a battleground for years. At one point, it was deleted. Recently, admins had to step in after copyright violations and a meat puppet campaign. The current page is flagged as reading like an ad and lacking neutrality. What's needed now are neutral editors with some subject matter expertise. Could someone give it another look? After a deal of good work by User:Lambtron, it's drifting back toward the promotional. It's not a territory I know enough about to deal with properly, but I can spot (for instance) the weasel wording in critics "claiming" while an expert who supports CrossFit "states" and "notes". Invitation to improve medical articles related to developing countries

Google's private foundation has offered to provide support to several non-English Wikipedias. (See this announcement.) Forty medicine- or health-related articles, some of particular interest to developing countries, have been identified as targets. The English-language articles will be translated, and we'd like to give the translators some good articles.

I think that it would be particularly helpful if some of these articles were expanded to make them more global/more obviously applicable to non-English-speaking countries. For example, recreational drug use contains prevalence information for Ireland and the US, but no other countries.

Anti-Inflammation Diet

Could someone more familiar with articles on diet and nutrition help with reviewing the article on Anti-Inflammation Diet? Citation templates now support more identifiers

Recent changes were made to citations templates (such as {{citation}}, {{cite journal}}, {{cite web}}...). In addition to what was previously supported (bibcode, doi, jstor, isbn, ...), templates now support arXiv, ASIN, JFM, LCCN, MR, OL, OSTI, RFC, SSRN and Zbl. Before, you needed to place |id={{arxiv|0123.4567}} (or worse |url=http://arxiv.org/abs/0123.4567), now you can simply use |arxiv=0123.4567, likewise for |id={{JSTOR|0123456789}} and |url=http://www.jstor.org/stable/0123456789 → |jstor=0123456789.

The full list of supported identifiers is given here (with dummy values):

Another idea for a fat tax

I can't connect the dots of a fat tax where the tax is attached to fat food. It raises the cost of the product, but without the connection to the decision of whether to buy or not buy. An alternative is to tax the taxpayer based on their wieght compared to the ideal weight for a person's height. That requires an annual height/weight certificate attached to the individual tax return. The higher above the ideal weight, the higher the tax/lower the credit. The lower below the weight, the lower the tax higher the credit. The connection between the cost of the annual tax payment and what to eat is stronger than the cost of the product and what to eat is. Health disasters by year categories proposed

I propose to make categories for health disasters by year eg Category 2011 health disasters; an alternative would be Category:Health disasters in 2011. This is the only category of disaster which does not have a “by year” category. An alternative name could be “Health accidents and incidents” but “Health disasters” seems to be accepted as the overall category. To be subcategorised by century eg 21st-century health disasters. Initially to be for 2000 to 2012; there seem to be enough incidents or disasters to populate every year!

The category should include Epidemics, Pandemics, Flu outbreaks, Faulty or contaminated equipment, food or medicines etc. Also animal outbreaks like swine fly, foot and mouth outbreaks and pet food contamination. Also perhaps incidents of toxic metal/chemical poisoning and radiation poisoning. Possibly the categories Category:2000s medical outbreaks and Category:2010s medical outbreaks could be renamed to Category:2000s health disasters etc to be a subcategory by decade? Heads up on health articles for countries

I moved some of the articles which now exist up; it is possible there are others, that are named 'Healthcare in X' or 'Health care in X'. I understand Transhumanist's point that health is not the same as healthcare, but I think the terms are used interchangeably enough when talking about national level health indicators that it is *not* worth creating a 'health in X' and a 'Health care in X' for every country of the world. I'd be happy if we standardized on 'health in X' but it seems like a lot of work and redirects may be just as sufficient vs a mass renaming. Proposal for Social Determinants of Health in Poverty

I am a new user of Wikipedia, and am contributing an article about health outcomes and healthcare for a class at Rice University, where I am a pre-med student. Through my studies in the class “Poverty, Gender, and Human Development” and Rice University, and my many previous learning experiences with medicine, healthcare, and the social safety net, I have gained knowledge about differential health outcomes within poor populations. Therefore, I plan to create a new article entitled Social Determinants of Health in Poverty , and make this a part of [[[WP:Health and Fitness]] as well as other Wikiprojects.

This article should contribute to the expansion of understanding of differences in health outcomes between the general population and impoverished populations, as well as within impoverished populations, contributing a vital aspect to understanding and analyzing health outcomes. I have compiled an extensive list of credible resources from academic journals, books, and non-profit organization reports, and plan on using this information to build a credible entry. However, I will face difficulty in compiling all this information into an extensive but concise presentation that distinguishes impoverished populations and the differences between them precisely. Therefore, I would appreciate feedback throughout the development and writing of my article, as I have limited Wikipedia entry experience.

This article should contribute to this Wikiproject because it provides better understanding the determinants of health in various populations, and contributes to a social understanding of the determining factors of health. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to use this article to best contribute to this Wikiproject.

Wikipedia has a strict WP:original research policy which means in effect we should be summarizing things that are already discussed in the literature, so one would really need to get something that provides a reasonable basis by already doing most of the distinguishing you are talking about rather than setting that up from scratch yourself. I would have thought there probably is something like that about, UN health programmes or something like that probably has criteria I'd have thought. This is a bit in opposition to what one might want to do to mark out one's own paper in an outside article but it is what Wikipedia is about as an encyclopaedia which is being in effect a little dull in just summarizing what other people have noted. The distinguishing I seek is clearly set up in a very formal, organized, and detailed manner in World Health Organization's Social Determinants Conceptual Framework laid out in World Health Organization’s Social Determinants Council's report "Commission on Social Determinants of Health. Closing the Gap in a Generation- Health equity through action and the social determinants of health", specifically targeted towards poverty. This document serves not only as a basis for understanding and expanding on the topic, but also shows that there are grounds for separating impoverished communities and the specific determinants of health they face. I was interested in separating these two articles because I feel like this contributes to the public's understanding of how different sub-populations can have different factors that distinctly serve to impact their lives greatly. I feel like separating this article contributes in a unique way to understanding the plight of the impoverished. I see your points, but this is the basis on which I decided to distinguish my article. Feedback requested on suggested revision of Universal healthcare article

Hello, I have made a proposal for some edits to the universal healthcare article here Talk:Universal_health_care#Proposed_revision_.28March_2012.29 and would be interested in feedback from other editors.

In addition, I'm also considering simplifying or removing some of the country-specific examples in the articles below, and placing them in a new list Health financing by country or Universal coverage by country or similar (see Health systems by country), because for now there are, for example, descriptions of the Canadian system as socialized medicine, single-payer health care, two-tier healthcare, and national health insurance and the result is 4 different descriptions of the financing of the Canadian system (in addition to the description here: Health care in Canada, rather than a single consensus view.

Combining the country-specific stuff on health financing into a single overview list will help (with links out to detailed country descriptions), so that there is one place people can go, and hence try to keep the generic articles focused on the terminology, with short examples from countries, but not long country-specific sections. If you think some of that would be useful within the text of the articles, we could even transclude summaries from elsewhere.

I think the articles below are all useful as stand-alone articles, but I also think the wiki would benefit from a single place where people could go to read up on health financing by country, which would be linked to all of the below. Finally, I would suggest we move all of the US-specific debates in the below articles to here Health_care_reform_debate_in_the_United_States which has been set aside for that purpose.

Self-published references used in this project

Hi, Some time ago I started a discussion on Wikipedia_talk:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Self_publishing_list and it eventually resulted in List of self-publishing companies. It seems that some of those publishers are used in this project, e.g. Vantage Press on Paleolithic diet, etc. I am sure there are others. I am asking a few projects to help turn the tide against the invasion of Wikipedia by self-published sources by:

• Adding more items to List of self-publishing companies and Wikipedia talk:List of self-publishing companies
• Looking for the use of these sources within project pages and dealing with them, as appropriate, e.g. by checking facts, deleting unsubstantiated items, or getting better sources, etc.

Article on Cortisol and Alcohol- no mention of chronic or acute stressors as co-contributor, nimh link

I happened to be looking into this and I found that maybe a more balanced presentation could be made if some mention of life stress factors as a source of elevated cortisol levels and implications were included. A quick search found NIH research on this.

and this is the first NIMH (2009) research abstract I glanced at http://www.nimh.nih.gov/science-news/2009/research-shows-how-chronic-stress-may-be-linked-to-physical-and-mental-ailments.shtml

Alcohol abuse can be accompanied by life altering stress, and I think likely is one of the most significant factors in relapse or drinking to excess. It's a correlation versus causation kind of thing, imo.

I believe this article can become a g.a. in the very least because of the popularity of this app. For example, the number of review in the app store are 314801 Ratings, while something like Google Earth has 440890 Ratings. I am new to adding pages on wikipedia and I was referred to this page by another wiki user, she told me you guys might be able to help. I published a page already (not realizing that I could first make it a draft), and I received feedback from one reviewer so I made some changes. I asked that reviewer if there are any other changes he recommends but I didn't get a reply. Hi! I am a part of Rice University taking a course that is involved with the education program of Wikipedia. I am very interested in the topic of health and its relationship with social factors. Regarding the absence of a very well known info on SEXUAL DESIRE on wikipedia

This question is related to sexual desire of males. In the article SEXUAL DESIRE i could not find a very well known fact. It is generally seen that in sexually active active males, the time gap between the ejaculations affects their sexual desire. For example, if a man masturbates or ejaculates regularly(say once a day or once every two days or twice a day) and suddenly stops it, his sexual desire(or what we call libido) increases..It is also observed that the orgasm after a period of abstinence are also intense and getting and erection in a short term abstinence period is quicker..Why does this happen..? And why does wikipedia not mention i under the factors affecting sexual desire ..? I know that males are made to release their sperms once in a while. But why could i not find a reason or mention of it on wikipedia. .. Hi, there has been significant restructuring of the human body, human physiology and human anatomy articles over at WP:Anatomy, making the Human body article the main, offering opportunities for future expansion once significant information is available.

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. Ways to improve the WikiProject

Hi there! I am a health nut and I have been doing CrossFit for a little over three years now and have learned a lot from the people at the gym about health and overall fitness. There are so many dynamics to this topic and it is a very unique journey from person to person. Everyone's body composition is different so health and fitness vary in that aspect. Some ways to improve this article include starting by adding more content on the physical pages rather than just the links. Sources also need to be added to the bottom of the page. Orangetheory Fitness Edit

I would like to add to the article, the different heart rate zones and their meanings. There are five heart rate zones used in the Orangetheory workout; gray, blue, green, orange, and red.

Gray zone: 50-60 percent of your maximum heart-rate. This is the most comfortable zone. Blue zone: 61-70 percent of your maximum heart-rate. This is your warm-up period. Green zone: 71-83 percent of your maximum heart-rate. This is your comfortable and doable fat burning zone. You should stay in this zone for 25 to 35 minutes of your workout. Orange zone: 84-91 percent of your maximum heart-rate. This is your uncomfortable zone, which creates EPOC. You should stay in this zone for 12 to 20 minutes of your workout. NHI and SHI

Hello, I'm writing an article about the SHI model which is briefly treated in the National health insurance. Even if they've some features in common I think there's a difference which should lead to a separation.

As I can read in references (online and in the page) NHI is more used when there's a single government body to provide part of the payment (like in South Korea or in Taiwan) while SHI is more used where there's a system of social insurance, which may be not a part of a government system (like in the Netherlands).

Hello editors, SCbhaynes here. I am an employee of Sharecare and a representative on Wikipedia for the brand. I posted a request recently on the article's Talk page to pursue editor assistance with adjusting the number of employees noted in the current article's infobox. Reliable sources for bodybuilding articles?

Do we have a list of reliable sources for weight lifting and bodybuilding articles. Most of the articles in these areas are disasterous mixes of just plain unsourced WP:OR and references to unreliable sources. I'm not familiar enough with the subject are to know which sources are considered reliable.

Right now, I'm looking at Overhead press. My guess is that neither bodybuilding.com or mensjournal.com would be considered reliable and healthline.com looks more reasonable? -- RoySmith (talk) 13:34, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
