Ken Williams[edit]

PresN, Dying, I see that Dying is representing him as the co-founder of Sierra ... which he was, but I included his image because he was the only person in charge of Sierra at the time they published Homeworld (his wife had left the company at that point). If this is wrong, let me know. - Dank (push to talk) 23:18, 4 January 2024 (UTC) Also note that Sierra had been acquired by CUC International at this point, but despite the acquisition, Sierra continued to act as a publisher and make various deals under its own name. - Dank (push to talk) 00:19, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why use a photo of him at all? Why not a photo or image more directly related to the game itself or the actual game developers? Why not just use the box art the article uses at its main image for example? 86.8.114.154 (talk) 15:50, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
we had trouble finding an appropriate image to use for the main page. the images featured in the article are normally protected by copyright, but their inclusion in the article is believed to be acceptable due to the doctrine of fair use. using these copyrighted images on the main page may subject wikipedia to a lawsuit, so we try to avoid doing so.
you can tell when a copyrighted image's use in an article is being justified by the fair use doctrine by clicking on the image and seeing if a fair use rationale has been provided, as seen here. in particular, screenshots of commercial video games are almost always copyrighted, so we often have trouble finding an appropriate image to use for such blurbs on the main page.
further discussion on the selection of the image for this blurb may be found here. if you can find an appropriate free image to replace the one currently in use on the main page, please let us know. thanks for your concern. dying (talk) 19:59, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
