I'm thinking of adding a link to this page somewhere appropriate (as I have done to the 'about' page, and have suggested at the 'help' page) - any thoughts or feedback most welcome! cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 05:27, 24 June 2008 (UTC) I want to understand the concept of rule of law as it was understood by different theorist especial prof.lon luvois fuller —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.220.143.5 (talk) 14:41, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Improving directions for asking questions

The current methods for diverting questions doesn't seem to be fully effective.. The questions that make it here ( and other places ) sometimes haven't looked very hard, other times got confused. I am suggesting changing the article to start off with something like

'To ask about how to use wikipedia use Wikipedia:Help_desk, requests for other information can be made on the Wikipedia:Reference desk. The following resources also contain commonly sought answers'

Basically get the help and reference desks to the top and provide other resources later. I would also like to remove the harsh notice at the top - this page will be commonly accessed by new users and the note is the wrong tone. LeeVJ (talk) 16:02, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok have been browsing around the help/intro pages a bit now - this page is specifically linked to as a reference of where to ask questions. Recommend we remove non-question resources (i.e. how to use wikipedia section and search) - leave pointer to FAQ, but make it Wikipedia:FAQ Index which is more comprehensive. I have made a lean mean version from current article, it has been applied for a few days, and together with the minimised warning seems to working (less misplaced questions since being applied) LeeVJ (talk) 23:36, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

RfC

RfC seems like an advanced and confusing place to link to, especially for newcomers. I suggest removing this link. Computerjoe's talk 22:47, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

please make other pages consistent with this page

This page makes reference to other help pages. ("reference desk is like a library. Village pump is where you'd discuss technical WP aspects" and so on). It's great, it is very clear and easy to understand. Unfortunately, I go to those other pages and they have big template boxes saying ARE YOU SURE YOU'RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE? and then they give -slightly- modified versions of your advice. "This is the place to ask question about USING wikipedia". I know meta work is sometimes frowned up as instruction creep, and not building the encyclopedia, but making the meta stuff a bit simpler for newbies (and maybe there needs to be some bold changes) would help. Or maybe it wouldn't. I'm aware of big red boxes on some pages asking users to "DON'T DO THIS" sometimes appearing to do little to stem the flood of users doing exactly what they're asked not to do. 82.33.48.96 (talk) 23:17, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, to some extent, I think it may be true that the various help/wiki-talk sections aren't exactly named/arranged in a way that makes them easy to grok. "Help desk" and "Reference desk" make a certain amount of sense, but "the village pump" was always kind of non-obvious, and has since grown like kudzu. A lot of disucssions that used to happen at the pump now happen at project pages and the like. • Any specific suggestions on what we should all do about it? —DragonHawk (talk|hist) 00:06, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Live chat help

Just to notify someone that the link #wikipedia-en-help IRC chat room is broken Ottawahitech (talk) 14:46, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks - but it seems to be working for me - maybe the server was down when you tried? Lee∴V (talkcontribs) 23:25, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
Strange... I still get the following message "The webpage cannot be displayed" when I click "Join the #wikipedia-en-help IRC chat room" Ottawahitech (talk) 00:46, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
That link will only work if you have a compatible IRC client installed, it doesn't work for me either. You can use the "CLick here" link to use an alternative method that should work.--Commander Keane (talk) 03:30, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

The guide Wikipedia:Guide to requesting assistance was written by Sandstein (talk · contribs), and he left a message on Help talk:Contents#New help-related info page asking where it could go. I think this seems like the most obvious place to put it. Do people think a link to it here would be appropriate? Mr. Stradivarius 12:16, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Here's good. But I would think WP:Requests would be the most obvious place to put it. -- œ 22:17, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Inclusion of the Teahouse?

Hi there. It'd be great to have a link to the pilot project for the Teahouse listed as an additional source of help. Is it possible that it can be added (and if the project is a success, it can stay, and if it fails, it can be removed)? I do hope so :) Sarah (talk) 20:30, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Webstertainment (Youtube)

Webstertainment was a popular youtube channel. Of which a young girl hosted it. She had here own shows (previews, chat shows featuring other members). She had fans from her school and the world. But in 2012 she realized her videos were not set to private and random people saw her. Sadly in May 2012 it closed down. Some of her cartoon videos are still in the channel. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WOfficial (talkcontribs) 13:57, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
