Free software[edit]

Hello, was the Phase II software free software? I'd like to get a copy of it but can't seem to find the source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.82.234.26 (talk) 23:18, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It was released as free software, as you can see in the Wayback Machine, though the links to the files don't really work from there. Also see, say, this revision of the page explaining MediaWiki. I can't find a working link to the actual Phase II software, but if you need to import a phase II database dump, there is a tool for doing this in MediaWiki 1.2.6. I also found a tool for doing this in MediaWiki 1.5, but when doing the import I started from the 1.2.6 tool. Graham87 01:09, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the information! Turns out the phpwiki code is still in the sourceforge cvs repo:
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@a.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/wikipedia co -P phpwiki 99.82.234.26 (talk) 21:45, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much for that ... that command worked here! After a bit of Googling I also found out its available on MediaWiki's SVN archive and I've added the relevant info here. I also added that along with your command to this page on the MediaWiki wiki, which used to have a link to that old directory until it was removed in June 2020, probably because it was broken by then. Feel free to tweak the text I've added to either or both places; I'm not very comfortable using version control systems myself. Graham87 12:25, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
