The overall objective of BBMB 531 is in-depth exploration of the unique aspects of plant biochemistry. Specific learning objectives are as follows:
- Understand how the unique aspects of plant organization (i.e., organelles and tissues) impact their metabolism.
- Understand the mechanisms that plants use to obtain, conserve, and utilize chemical energy.
- Know the major pathways used by plants to synthesize and degrade the biomolecules that they require.
- Have the ability to use and understand the technical language necessary to communicate this biochemical information.
- Be able to explain biochemical processes to individuals without specialized knowledge of chemistry.
- Understand how biochemistry integrates with other aspects of plant biology.
Objectives 4 and, particularly, 5 will be addressed by researching and writing/editing Wikipedia articles on topics covered in this course, ideally also related to your own research interests.
