This course is designed to help English as a Second Language STEM students succeed in academic courses at Auburn University through a partnership with Wikipedia. Students will develop critical reading and writing abilities with the ultimate purpose of learning how to produce graduate-level, professional writing for Wikipedia contributions. Students will learn to locate, evaluate, and analyze academic sources to use in their Wikipedia pages. Though listening, speaking, and reading skills are not the primary purpose of this class, they will be utilized to produce Wikipedia pages. Extensive peer revision will be employed in addition to teacher feedback and conferences with students to develop, revise, and proofread written submissions. Students will be using Wikipedia throughout the semester to develop succinct and objective writing skills while contributing to or creating articles in related to their specific STEM fields.
