The railroad of Stanley, Merrill & Phillips Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad located in the central part of Wisconsin. The owned mileage extends in a general northwardly direction from Stanley to Valee, a distance of 37.509 miles. The carrier also owns yard and side tracks totaling 7.387 miles. Its road thus embraces 44.896 miles of all tracks owned.


Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated August 21, 1893, under the general laws of the State of Wisconsin. The purpose of the incorporation was to take over and operate the railroad constructed by the North Western Lumber Company. The date of organization was August 29, 1902. The principal office of the carrier is located at Stanley. The detailed facts as to the development of the fixed physical property are given in Appendix 2.
