Style guideline for quoting Latin verbs[edit]

Derivations of English words on English WP are frequently given from Latin verbs. The correct form, as given in Latin dictionaries and Latin grammars, is:

Education, from the Latin verb duco ("to lead"), plus the preposition ex ("out of").

The incorrect form, frequently seen on WP is:

Education, from the Latin preposition ex ("out of") plus the verb duco ("I lead").

The infinitive for Latin verbs is by convention correctly quoted as the 1st person present, i.e. duco, "to lead". The preposition element is by convention quoted after the verb derivation has been given. It would be useful to formalise a WP style for expressing this correctly, which could be used as an edit box comment, i.e. "ce, Latin derivation, see "WP Guideline.....". Might this be a valid addition to WP:MOS?(Lobsterthermidor (talk) 11:07, 16 February 2015 (UTC))[reply]
