Thanjavur Big temple[edit]

The Brihadeeswara Temple or Big Temple in Thanjavur was constructed by Raja Raja Chola and Rajendra Chola sometime between 970AD and 1040AD.An UNESCO World Heritage Monument, the whole structure is made up a single chunk of granite transported over 50 kilometres of land. Amongst Indian monuments, the Big Temple ranks next only to the Taj Mahal in splendor and is regarded as one of the marvels of the world

  • I feel that the image looks fabulous capturing the colors of the evening sky over the awesome-looking 1000 year old monument. I took this picture with my Nikon camera as the sun was setting.

Comments:

  • The monument certainly does have a nice orange-ish glow, but I'm afraid its not eligible to be a featured pictured. It needs to have 1000 pixel resolution on at least one dimension, and it doesn't. Also, featured pictures need to contribute strongly to the article, and it is simply in a gallery, not contributing to the image more than the other images in that gallery. In general, the composition could be better, too, as this image cuts off much of the monument. The image in the info-box in the article shows more, and at least that much (hopefully more) of the building would be expected in any featured picture.
