Wikipedia:Draftspace, not for unilateral spinouts

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Draftspace should not be used unilaterally, by a single editor in silence, to draft a WP:Spinout of a subtopic of an existing topic covered by an article.

The usual problem is that the subtopic is not independently notable, and the draft page content will be some combination of content forking from the parent article and excessive.

Instead, if a new page for the subtopic is desired, propose a spinout on the article talk page. This will alert other watchers of the article of your interest, and will allow them to help or give feedback.

If it is desired to draft a spinout, it should be done with clear notice, with links, on the parent article talk page. However, justified spinouts are usually best written immediately into mainspace, moving content out of the parent article and into the subtopic article, with linking from the parent article.

A worthy subtopic spinout will be at least a large section in the parent article.
