Administrators' newsletter – August 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2019).

Guideline and policy news

Miscellaneous

  • Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
  • The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.

Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

Request for reviewing Draft:Maulana Shakir Ali Noori

Hello Yunshui, i have created a draft article Draft:Maulana Shakir Ali Noori please review it, this article before deleted was due to inappropriate referencing and doesn't showed any notability but i have referenced it in good manner and added notability of the person, so i request you to review the article, Thank you, with best regards Hzk12345 (talk) 15:59, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

Of the sources currently in the draft:
  • 1 is fine
  • 2 seems ok
  • 3 is a dead link
  • 4 is a passing mention, and doesn't provide any evidence of notability.
  • 5, 6 and 7 are irrelevant - all they say is that he is mentioned in source 1, which is already verified by the presence of source 1. You only need one of these, if any, and I would suggest #6 (Times of India) since the other two look much less like reliable sources. However, none of them provide the in-depth coverage needed for notability purposes; they are all passing mentions.
You will never get an article approved while it contains lines like: It promotes the propagation of the true beliefs of Islam; that's obviously a non-neutral statement and has no place in an encyclopedia. Yunshui  07:21, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

Thank you @Yunshui:, i have done correction on it i have removed dead link and line like: It promotes the propagation of the true beliefs of Islam, i think it is ready to get reviewed now. Hzk12345 (talk) 07:14, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

Comment relating to a block

You should be getting a ping from me asking for clarification of the reason for a block. I thought you might possibly be interested to know that after I had posted that message it occurred to me that there are two things which look very suspicious, but not enough on their own to explain the block, so I shall be very interested if you can provide something more definite. JamesBWatson (talk) 20:42, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

@JamesBWatson: Happy to oblige with my reasoning. A little while ago, an advert was posted on Upwork requesting the creation of an article on the European Cricket League. Last week, that advert was picked up by an Upwork account which operates the Merasian Luineaz sockfarm, and the page Draft:European Cricket League was created (actually, it was created at European Cricket League but was moved to draft while the UPE issue was investigated). I deleted the draft under speedy criterion G5 after blocking Merasian's Anayame account; less than half an hour after I did that, NitramCricket96, an account that had been inactive for more than five years, recreated the page. That doesn't look co-incidental to me, hence the block. Yunshui  06:57, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. Together with the "two things which look very suspicious" that I mentioned above, the other information you have given puts it beyond merely "suspicious". JamesBWatson (talk) 19:25, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

Deletion review for Electric Brain

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Electric Brain. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. —Flicky1984 (talk) 13:15, 5 August 2019 (UTC)

Possible sock of Nadda23

Any idea if this is Nadda23 (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki)? no edits outside the same topic and removed the UDP tag. Thank you. GSS (talk|c|em) 14:39, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

They are clearly also being paid by CCN, but there's no technical connection between the two accounts; I suspect they are a different freelancer. I've left them a paid editing warning for now. Yunshui  07:03, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
Or could be that they actually own the company... Yunshui  07:54, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
Hi Yunshui. I saw this thread here and then saw the post at Draft talk:CCN Markets; so, I figured I take a shot at giving a reply. Either this editor is the company founder or they're not since it seems unlikely that the would be another unrelated person with the same name suddenly appearing out of the blue to edit this draft. If they're the founder, then all the COI and PAID stuff would seem to apply; if not, then they're likely just a freelancer who mistakenly believes that using the founder's name will somehow make it easier for them to re-add the draft to the mainspace. In that case, they will need to change that username per WP:IMPERSONATE in addition to complying with COI and PAID. Anyway, if I gave them any bad advice or otherwise posted something wrong, please feel free to correct me. FWIW, the founder does have an article written about him on Norwegian Wikipedia, but have no idea as to whether there's a Norwegian Wikipedia equivalent to WP:BIO. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:34, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
Your advice was perfectly sound, from what I saw; no worries on that front. Either way, a conflict of interest is very evident. Yunshui  13:43, 5 August 2019 (UTC)

Regarding spam in Gateway of India

Hi, Yunshui. Please look into the series of spam links added in Gateway of India by User:Raoji patil, despite series of cautions. Looking forward to your prompt response. Thank you! --Tamravidhir (talk) 16:48, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

Blocked for spamming his own website all over the shop. Yunshui  17:44, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for looking into it! --Tamravidhir (talk) 17:57, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

Consulting

Hi, Yunshui. Just wanted to know if this can be an alleged WP:RS. --Tamravidhir (talk) 02:40, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

It's maybe not an ideal source - something third-party might be better - but for the purposes of verifying that the station aired a particular program, a link to an archive of that station's program guide seems entirely reasonable. Yunshui  07:59, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
Aah, that sounds alright. Thank you! I also left another message for you at User_talk:Yunshui#Assistance_sought, just mentioning in case you overlooked it. --Tamravidhir (talk) 09:00, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Regarding vandalism at Georgia

Hi, Yunshui. If you may please look into the edits made by User: Halcyon2019 at Georgia (U.S. State) which seem akin to vandalism. Looking forward to your prompt response! --Tamravidhir (talk) 06:42, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Normally that would have been a short block for edit warring, but when you see an edit summary that says they are removing information that is "racist towards whites", you know they're not here for anything constructive. Yunshui  08:04, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
Exactly what I noted while going through the edit summaries. Thanks a lot for the response! --Tamravidhir (talk) 09:02, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Revival786

Hello. I was working my way through speedy deletion candidates and I found myself at Draft talk:Francis Mvemba and from there User_talk:SameStruggle#Paid_editing where a paid editor by the handle of Revival786 is discussed.

I've previously raised a sockpuppet investigation which involves a Revival938. It's probably a long shot but I wondered if there might be a connection with Revival786. Would you mind having a look at the case and/or pointing me to any SPIs or discussion about Revival786 that you know of? If you reply I'd appreciate a ping. Thanks. --kingboyk (talk) 19:23, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

@Kingboyk: More likely Revival932... I've run a CU and added some notes to the SPI for you, but haven't taken any admin actions at this time. Yunshui  07:11, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
Thank you so much! I've noted some behavioural similarities between the two Revivals. --kingboyk (talk) 10:04, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
The evidence is building at that investigation page. Could you please advise on what should happen next - as an admin, but one who submitted the case, should I take action myself once it seems appropriate, or am I "involved" and should wait for someone else to act? This would be useful to know not just for this case but for the future too. If you reply I'd once again appreciate a ping :) Thanks. --kingboyk (talk) 09:18, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Regarding Sonia Gandhi

Hi, Yunshui. User:Ntu129 has justified adding this information to Sonia Gandhi as a separate section. I am highly doubtful of the same. Would be thankful if you could look into the same. --Tamravidhir (talk) 09:08, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui, there is a related Wikipedia page in which Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has already been mentioned. National Herald corruption case. It has all the relevant citations and news reports wanted by @Tamravidhir Ntu129 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 09:24, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Well, the sources used do explicitly mention her by name, and since she's already a public figure, WP:BLPCRIME doesn't apply. Whether it should be a separate section or not is something you guys should discuss on the talkpage - perhaps it should be merged into another section, since at present it's not an especially noteworthy part of her article - but I see no reason to exclude mention of the case altogether. Yunshui  10:43, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
I had been thinking on the same line. Will surely look into it. Thank you! --Tamravidhir (talk) 11:24, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Assistance sought

Hi, Yunshui. I hope you are doing well. Writing to you after a long absence. I seek some assistance in deleting a list of user subpages I had created in a spurt, over last few years. Hence, this message. I would be grateful if you could help me by deleting my user subpages listed below:

The list is long and the task is seemingly daunting. However, I will be thankful if you could help me. These pages seem nothing but mere clutter to me. Will be eagerly looking forward to hear from you soon. --Tamravidhir (talk!) 19:21, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, no probs. Gimme five minutes and I'll make 'em all go red for you. Good to hear from you! Yunshui  19:23, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
That was very prompt and smooth. Thank you so much! Huge relief to see them all red. I hope your work has been going well. :D --Tamravidhir (talk) 19:35, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
My pleasure. Yunshui  19:38, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
Hi, Yunshui, Forgot to mention User:Tamravidhir/Supports WikiProject Feminism and User:Tamravidhir/Supports WikiProject Islam yesterday, Would be thankful if these too could be looked into. --Tamravidhir (talk) 11:57, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
Done and dusted. Yunshui  12:12, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
Thank you, so much! --Tamravidhir (talk) 13:59, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
I came across three more pages which I will be thankful if deleted, namely — User talk:Tamravidhir/User India holidayed, User:Tamravidhir/Wishes, and User:Tamravidhir/Awards. Thank you so much! --Tamravidhir (talk) 06:50, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
The last two are redirects to some other page which I do not want to be deleted. --Tamravidhir (talk) 06:52, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
Sorted! Yunshui  10:45, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks once again! --Tamravidhir (talk) 11:25, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

If you can help me more - it will be great

Hey,

I just got your comment and article which i created is show it may done for payment. It really doesnt matter for me. But it discourages me from editing/using wikkipedia. I have added myself to manu groups to learn more about wikkipedia and there some asked it because he is very famous personality in india.

I just wanted to let u know this.

Leaving wikkipedia forever. Hitesh2617 (talk) 09:49, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Draft of Paul Combs page

Hi, Yunshui, thank you for your guidance, I appreciate it. In what sense does my article on Paul Combs present a conflict of interest? Where is there a perceived bias? Again, thank you.Blinshnikt (talk) 01:05, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

This is not where you should post help me templates. Please use help me template on your talk page of you want to ask a question. Masum Reza📞 01:09, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
@Blinshnikt: Off-wiki evidence (specifically OTRS permissions ticket #2019081410005384) seems to suggest that you know Paul Combs personally. If you do indeed know him, in either a personal or professional capacity, then you have a conflict of interest. That doesn't necessarily prevent you from writing about him, but in the interests of transparency, it should be declared, either on your userpage or on the draft article's talkpage. Yunshui  07:07, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

Replying to comment

Hey Yunshui, you recently left a comment on my talk page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Petemayor#July_2019 your comment has a question but couldnt figure out how to reply. Thats why I am contacting you through here, I wanted to answer the question, and wanted to let you know that my edits are not being paid. I am not hired or paid by anyone, I just know the story and know the people. Pleas let me know If you need any more information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petemayor (talkcontribs) 02:15, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

Your edits on Wikipedia have exclusively related to The Chamanas and musicians from that band. Your additions to the article on The Chamanas have been blatantly promotional from the get-go, and have included a number of official promo shots as images. A YouTube user with an identical username also operates a YouTube channel devoted to The Chamanas. Now it's certainly possible that you are simple an unusually enthusiastic fan of the band, but all of this taken together tends to indicate that you are employed to enhance the band's social media presence, hence my question. Yunshui  07:23, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

Regarding Gateway of India

Hi, Yunshui. It has been some time since I nominated the article on Gateway of India for GA. I am writing this message to request if you could please review the article for the same. It will be very generous of you, and I will be thankful. Hoping to hear from you soon. --Tamravidhir (talk) 17:39, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

I'll be honest; it's been a really long time since I had anything to do with GA; I've pretty much forgotten the criteria. You might be better off asking someone with a bit more recent experience. I would suggest that you have a look at the "Events and incidents" section, though; the second and third sentences there are word-for-word copies of the source used, which I think would be an insta-fail. Yunshui  07:31, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
I understand that. I will surely reach out to others or just wait for the review. Thank you for the input. I have rewritten the sentence. Also mentioning Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2019 and Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017 which I have nominated for DYK and GA respectively. I wish to nominate the former for GA later, and have come across some more information on criticism of the HIV/AIDS act yet to be added. Will be really happy to hear from you your inputs concerning these two. Thank you so much. --Tamravidhir (talk) 07:44, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

Regarding 3RR

Hi, Yunshui. I have allegedly violate violated the 3RR and I am writing to you given I was told here I cannot write there or else I will be reported to an admin. This is in concern to edits to Kolkata where I made 3 reverts over today and one undo, by adding content deleted without consensus and replacing citation with a template. The response here was quite hostile leaving no chance for consensus. Seemingly soon later I was denied rollback rights. Leaving the links here for you to look into it. If I have wronged I shall suffer but if something has gone astray and my rollback rights, which I have not earlier violated, are given back to me I will be thankful. Hoping to hear from User:DrKay and you soon. --Tamravidhir (talk) 09:46, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

Could you please stop running around from page to page pinging me? I left an explanation elsewhere. DrKay (talk) 09:47, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
@DrKay: Also wrote to User:Titodutta here. I was denied audi alteram partem when you mentioned that if I were to write on your talk page I would be reported to an admin. I wasn't left with much options but to seek consultation of two admins. I wish to assume good faith. Even before the second template I had suggested a talk page consensus which wasn't paid heed to, I had to restore the information with a maintenance template --Tamravidhir (talk) 09:57, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
You just pinged me again. Please don't. DrKay (talk) 10:00, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
I cannot be denied my right to be heard and implead you in the conversations when they stem directly from not only mine but also your actions. Not pinging you, but I also cannot be discouraged from bringing this in the notice of other admins. --Tamravidhir (talk) 10:04, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
Um... Tamravidhir, that is unambiguously a 3RR violation. 3RR states that you cannot perform more than three reverts - in which you undo another user's edits - on any article within a 24 hour period. The history of the Kolkata article very clearly shows you undoing Naucatcone's edits twice and DrKay's edits twice, all on the same day - that you did the last revert manually doesn't make a difference. Whilst I'm not going to impose a block myself, assuming that you stop reverting at this point, I'd have no problem with another administrator doing so.
That said, @DrKay: (apologies for the ping, I don't know whether you're watching this page or not), removing Tamravidhir's rollback permissions wasn't the most advisable move, as you're clearly involved in an editing dispute with them (the edits to Kolkata weren't administrative actions). Again, I see no reason to take action as I would have removed them myself, but taking administrative action against a user with whom you're engaged in a dispute isn't exactly smiled upon. Tamravidhir, if you want rollback reinstating then you'll need to reapply at WP:PERM; using rollback to undo edits which aren't vandalism is indeed a misuse of the tool. Yunshui  10:36, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
Thank you, I shall do the needful. Restating that denial to be heard on part of the other user on their talk page was not in good faith. Audi alteram partem is key to resolving disputes which was overlooked seemingly. --Tamravidhir (talk) 11:06, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

Draft of Paul Combs page

Hello, Yunshui, I have declared on my draft article's talkpage that I personally know Paul Combs. Thank you for pointing that out to me,and for helping me fix my error. I will appreciate any other advice you have about the article.Blinshnikt (talk) 23:14, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

help

Hi Yunshui, thanks so much for your help. Knowing I'm not able to edit the Cossette page - i'm weary to do anything else to it... However, am hoping that you could review and decide whether the page should be deleted? I think that I had made it factual, and sourced a lot of content. Let me know if you can help! Thanks so much and hope to chat soon. Jf2019toronto (talk) 12:27, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

PROD tags can be removed by any user and I have done so. I've also restructured and pruned the article a bit to make it more suitable for Wikipedia. I am still in two minds as to whether Cossette meets the inclusion requirements - the sources are fairly weak - but am happy to give it the benefit of the doubt. Yunshui  16:52, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Concerning IP user

Hi, please note the contributions of this editor to User talk pages which are seemingly offensive and aimed at channelising their hate speech and personal vendetta. --Tamravidhir (talk) 06:16, 26 August 2019 (UTC)

Seems to have gone quiet, but ping me if he pops up again. Yunshui  16:53, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Chelsea Smith

As a relatively new editor.I am still learning and hopefully sharpening my skills. Your Comment here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Chelsea_Smith,caused me to check out the citations. I could not ascertain which of the citations was sales or advertising. Could you help me sharpen my skills by pointing out the citations. Thank you.Oldperson (talk) 18:28, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

You're probably looking at the current version of the page, which is much improved (partly by you; thank you both for that and for the excellent use of the word "trumpetry"). Have a look at the version I saw when I reviewed it and you'll get a better idea of what I was talking about. Yunshui  08:10, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

UPE?

Hi Yunshui. Any idea as to what might be going on with Declan Newton and Declan Newton Raj? Seems like the same person who might've just forgotten their password. Also, 190.58.53.15 might be connected as well. Do you think there's any WP:UPE going on here? -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:33, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

Not seeing anything here that gives me pause... I agree that it looks like a new account for the same user, but there's no crossover; as long as he sticks to the new account there's no violation. I also don't see a UPE issue at this point; he's interested in the Mississipi election but then so are lots of other people. No comment on the IP, although it isn't local to Mississipi. Yunshui  08:23, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
Understand and thanks for taking a look. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:05, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

Regarding Mark Kendall page

Hello! I hope you are very well sir. Pardon my interruption in your talk page. Would you take 5 minutes to take a look to my AfC submission (Draft:Mark_Kendall) and hopefully giving your review and advice to move it to article space? Arigatou Derekfisherfl (talk) 00:18, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

I'm not interested in helping people promote themselves on Wikipedia. While you've done a good job of stringing together a selection of sources to make your not-really-notable client look impressively notable, I have no desire to help you shoehorn them into the encyclopedia. Wait for a review like anyone else. Yunshui  06:39, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for acknowledging my work I appreciate it. Sure, it just that I want to speed up the process a little sometimes It can take more than 3 months which is forever for a review so I figured that I have to actively speak up for the articles. I respect your opinion. Derekfisherfl (talk) 18:08, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
I get that you don't receive your payout until the article makes it to mainspace, but making sure you get paid isn't high on Wikipedia's list of priorities - indeed, it isn't even on the list. Yunshui  08:06, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
I know but Wikipedia is made by the users. So if it is in my list someone might have a little space for it. I just want a little review and feedback so I can go forward with my work, plus like you said I don´t get paid otherwise and I really need to survive. Have a great weekend Derekfisherfl (talk) 16:46, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Blocked at a hotel

I'm currently at a hotel in Pennsylvania and got a message saying I've been blocked for 48 hours for trying to evade a block. It's probably not directed at me, since I never edit on Wiki, but I figured I'd let you know that this IP is connected to a public WiFi at an EconoLodge Hotel in Pennsylvania. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.251.153.95 (talk) 23:17, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

The block on that IP expired several months ago; you can ignore the message on your talkpage. Yunshui  07:10, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Shared account

Hi Yunshui. Would you mind taking a look at User talk:Barbra Gayle#Shared accounts and User talk:Hugsyrup#Reestablishing contact? It appears that all of this was just a good-faith misunderstanding of WP:SHAREDACCOUNT, and things appear to be sorting themselves out; an account password, however, does seem to have been shared with at least one person and the account was used by someone after that person had created their own account. Maybe this is not really an issue as long as the "Barbra Gayle" is not used by anyone again? -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:49, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

Blocked the Barbra Gayle account for good measure. Yunshui  06:48, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look and for posting on their user talk page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:48, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

Timgwilson (talk) 16:51, 13 September 2019 (UTC) I am replying to my autoblock notification. I understand the reasons for it. For your information I am currently signed into my user space - Timgwilson - by using my phone as an Internet Hotspot. Thus a different IP. Previously I used my Router and Internet provider to try to sign into my account. I am the one that signed into the Barbra Gayle account. This, I believe, is the root of my blocking. If you look at all conversations I have had with various admins I think you will see my attempts to rectify my Wikipedia Policy violations. Please read my conversations with Hugsyrup and I believe you will see that my previous actions came from a place of Ignorance. This was my first attempt in be a wikipedia editor. The interface, language, syntax and culture of Wikipedia is arcane to say the least. I am trying. Should I wait for the block to be removed this coming week or should I include a request for unblocking the Timgwilson (me) account. Thankyou in advance for your considerationTimgwilson (talk) 16:51, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

I'll remove the autoblock; hadn't realised I'd applied it. Yunshui  21:35, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Varadaraja V. Raman

is textbook No Consensus. How did you arrive at your decision? WBGconverse 08:41, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Hm. Having looked it over again, several times, I think you're probably right. The rewrite saved it from being a clean delete, and there is a solid case for notability, but it's still debatable and (evidently!) debated. After due consideration, I'm going to change the close to no consensus. Yunshui  09:19, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
Thank you:-) WBGconverse 13:40, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
A bad decision, in my opinion. May I suggest you think again? There will always be people determined not to agree, and what should count most is the cogency of the arguments, as indeed the page on consensus says: "Consensus is ascertained by the quality of the arguments given on the various sides of an issue", and I suggest you carefully review your decision on those grounds. --Brian Josephson (talk) 09:10, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

Given the number of intervening edits by other users this isn't eligible for G5 deletion, and Farooqahmadbhat is already blocked, so I'm not sure what you want me to do here... Yunshui  07:11, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui! If I am not wrong, this page was deleted for the wrong reasons. It was not published by a puppet, but by me, a real journalist from Germany, falling in love with cricket (which is quite a story in our country). I am happy to proof my ID - please check benedict-mirow.om or my TV production www.nightfrog.com. The article includes mayn high class references, which fullfill all the normal wiki standards - I think. So I was wondering, whether this may have been a "too speedy" deletion. Could you please check the article again and - if it fullfills the needs of Wikipedia - could you restore my piece of work, please? And unblock me? It's user:Löwenstein74 - Thanks a lot for your support! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:C2:BF1B:3C6B:ADA6:6136:8DAC:1B1C (talk) 20:48, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

This took quite a bit of reviewing, but... on reflection, I'm inclined to believe you. Representatives of the ECL have been advertising openly for someone to create this page for some time, and there have been multiple attempts at doing so which are known to be connected to paid editing. However, looking over the version you created and comparing it with previous works by paid editors, I don't see any clear similarities in structure, syntax or content. It's entirely plausible that you created it independently, and as such, I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and unblock your account. Technically posting here under an IP is block evasion, which is a blockable offense in itself, but since I may have been mistaken with the initial block, I'm choosing to ignore it.
I'm also restoring the draft, although you will need to submit it via the AFC process before it becomes an article. Thank you for your very reasonable attitude to resolving this issue, and my apologies for the block. Yunshui  07:29, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Dear Yunshui - thanks a lot for your generous support! And for the time and effort you are putting into this! All the best for the future, B. --Löwenstein74 (talk) 11:17, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

YGM from me too. Johnsaavn is back please check. GSS (talk|c|em) 17:41, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
Another IP by Johnsaavn, please see my previous mail and list of articles in the attachment. GSS (talk|c|em) 15:16, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Another IP by the same sockmaster and surprisingly the draft was very quickly moved out our draftspace. G5? GSS (talk|c|em) 13:44, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
+this they are keep coming. GSS (talk|c|em) 17:52, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
Page creations nuked. I haven't bothered blocking the IPs as it's pretty unlikely he'll use them again. Yunshui  07:56, 23 September 2019 (UTC)
Great! will keep an eye on them anyway. 😎👍 GSS (talk|c|em) 09:23, 23 September 2019 (UTC)

Socking?

Any idea if Gichi011 is a sockpuppet of Bhej (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki)? Bhej was blocked last month for undisclosed paid editing, and this user constantly removing the UPE tag from Girish Sharma that was created by Bhej. GSS (talk|c|em) 07:58, 24 September 2019 (UTC)

CU is pretty inconclusive... I dunno; I reckon - given their singlemindedness and their deleted userpage - that they are specifically interested in/employed by Girish Sharma, rather than being a general Upwork editor. Yunshui  08:45, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
Looking at off-wiki stuff it sounds like Gichi011 hired Bhej to create his article (Girish Sharma) and he possibly used Paagal011 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) to contest speedy deletion at Talk:Girish Dimri and to upload File:Gichi011.jpg in November 2016. GSS (talk|c|em) 09:24, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
Probably worth your while opening an SPI - throw User:Dilwil011 in there as well (only edits were to Girish Dimri, back in 2016). Yunshui  09:27, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
Done Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Gichi011 also, if you are free can you please take a look at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Arshifakhan61? Thank you GSS (talk|c|em) 08:21, 25 September 2019 (UTC)

Draft: Paul Combs

Hi, Yunshui, Just checking in here about my page which I know is in the queue (as are so many others). Is there any way to guage when it will be reviewed? Thanks so much, Blinshnikt (talk) 11:31, 25 September 2019 (UTC)

I had a spare five minutes so I took a look - there's still work to be done on it (the sourcing needs some improvement), but it's certainly article-worthy, so I've moved it to mainspace. Yunshui  11:48, 25 September 2019 (UTC)

Paul Combs

Hi, Yunshui, thank you for your reply, and I am so pleased to see the page up on Wikipedia and to have made my contribution. Again, thank you for your guidance along the way.Blinshnikt (talk) 01:45, 27 September 2019 (UTC)

Glad I could help. Yunshui  06:53, 27 September 2019 (UTC)

Punjabier

Hi, any chance of turning off email access for Punjabier? I can keep ignoring what they send or try marking as spam but if they're not allowed to use their talk page, I don't see why they should be allowed to pester me via email. - Sitush (talk) 06:37, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

@Sitush: Gladly; you can turn your spam filter down a notch now. Nice to hear from you, by the way; how are things? Yunshui  07:07, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm afraid I am still somewhat annoyed with the workings of this place, particularly of ArbCom, the WMF and the present Working Group proposals. They may yet all change dramatically but somehow I doubt it for the first two. Generally happy with the admin corps, though :) Sitush (talk) 07:23, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
I can sympathise; I too feel the shine has kind of gone off this place in the last few months. I might get "generally happy with the admin corps" blown up and framed, though; that's the biggest compliment I think we've had in years! Yunshui  07:27, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
Ha! I could ask my mother to embroider it on a quilt for you. And speaking of her, I have just had a charming email from Punjabi jatt1‬ (talk · contribs) (obvious sock of the above) explaining exactly what they want to do to her and to my (non-existent) sister. - Sitush (talk) 03:25, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
And now another about my non-existent wife. - Sitush (talk) 05:08, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
Lovely chap, isn't he? I've had dealings with him via OTRS, in which he expressed his desire to engage in sexual relations with my mother. Guess he has a thing for older women? Yunshui  06:52, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
Borderline necrophilia in the case of mine :) - Sitush (talk) 07:10, 27 September 2019 (UTC)

Josh Elledge

Hi Yunshui. You recently deleted a page that I created Josh Elledge. Is it possible to get that page put onto the talk page or onto my sandbox? I got some good feedback on the Articles for Deletion page and would like to improve the article and resubmit. - tbc32 (talk) 014:13, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

The article was deleted as a result of a community discussion; since I didn't delete it unilaterally (as would be the case with a CSD deletion) it's up to the community to decide whether it should be restored or not. If you think the close was incorrect, you should make a case at Deletion review. Yunshui  07:02, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

GRUH Finance socking?

The article GRUH Finance has been recreated by NavyaDesai98 who was registered in August, a month after you deleted the previous version under G5 and I'm unable to find the previous creator so, can you please check and compare the latest version with the one you deleted? Thank you. GSS (talk|c|em) 04:37, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

The last person to create that page was User:Scholar911 (a sock of AuthorWiki99). CU data shows a location match, and much of the content is word-for-word identical, so a big shipment of block is headed in their direction... Yunshui  07:23, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
