{{help me}}

Hello, just wrote a wikipedia entry, my first ever, and seem to have gotten into complications. As a novice, it seems daunting at this stage to unravel what I've done wrong.

I started by trying to 'categorize', as requested, and things went from bad to worse.

The categories that would seem to make sense would be Audio / Phonograph / Turntable.

The entry :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrard_301_/_401_Transcription_Turntable

The problems :

1) categorization 2) cleanup flag 3) wikification flag

I'm very willing to spend time revising the text of the entry if that's what needs clarification, but all these tags and flags and technical things appear increasingly complex and discouraging.

Would an experienced editor be willing to help ?

Thanks very much for your time.

In Response to your Help Request[edit]

Xyzimpf, I can help you with the Wikifying, in the mean time, you can help by organizing the article a bit better. May I recommend the Tutorial? It may be able to help you with some of the problems listed by other contributors. --cmelbyetalk! 21:46, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ongoing help response[edit]

Couldn't seem to find a simple "respond" box on the reply from Cmelbye, so posting here.

(This is all a bit like wanting to contribute a small piece of a jigsaw puzzle, but then finding out you need to drive a space shuttle to deliver it...)

Thanks for your immediate response, Cmelbye. I'll do just that --- slowly make my way thru the tutorial, througout the weekend, and make required changes.

Could I contact* you again when things seem better situated ?

Your Article[edit]

Xyzimpf, okay, references sound good. If you need help with those, leave a message on my talk page. Now, for the links. In this example, the page you want to link to is called "The_Next_Page" and the text you want the link to show up as is "the next page". You would just add this: [[The_Next_Page|the next page]]. Links are in the form of [[PageToLinkTo|LinkText]]. If you have any trouble with this, leave me a message. --cmelbyetalk! 12:15, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

questions about "neutrality disputed"[edit]

Hello

I authored a wiki article and find that it has been tagged as "neutrality disputed". Wiki Info & faq pages on neutrality are helpful --- in general. Not so much in specific regard to my article.

This must be a simple question, but it's got multiple points --

What exactly about my article is disputed, what are the specific areas of contention ? How can I tell ?

Obviously I'd edit or re-compose whatever was proved to be biased or too opinionated, and I know how to do that, but what are the steps to counter-acting the charge of "neutrality disputed" ?

Suppose what I've authored just needs it's X changed to Y. I understand how to do the change, but not how to lift the charge of disputed neutrality after the appropriate changes are made. What are the steps there ?

Suppose what I've authored is true, but it makes someone think it needs it's X changed to a Y, and they tag it as "neutrality disputed". How do I prove the charge to be in error and refute their tag and have it removed ? What are the steps there ?

If it makes any difference, the tag of "ND" was placed at the very end of my entry/article, so I'm not sure at all what it refers to...

Thanks for help..

Please ask this on the talk page of the article in question. The editors of that article will see the change in their watch list and are much more likely to respond than they are if you ask it here. In general, discussions over content belong on article talk pages. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 20:31, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask it, but does that preclude answers ? This is a question about how, the procedure, to handle a 'neutrality disputed' tag. Not about content. If my article gets an ND tag, how do I go about reversing that ? What is the mechanism for correcting / then removing the 'ND' tag. Does one have to wait around for someone who may have tagged it to respond ? Is there no basic procedure to correct and resolve the situation ? Thank you. Xyzimpf

You handle that by asking the editor who put the tag there for the reason and what needs to be done to get it de-tagged. If the editor were not a recently active editor, then you could ask on the article's talk page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 21:50, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

You recently removed this merge proposal with the summary "see discussion page please". I assume that by this you meant your own discussion page (i.e. this one), but I don't see your rationale for not merging. Can you explain? Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 23:22, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Guess I wasn't quick enough. There's now a note on the newly opened discussion-page at the article in question. Hope this is the right way to go about this change. Xyzimpf (talk) 23:37, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
