Comments about Canadianization: Excuse me?[edit]

Excuse me? I appreciate your comments about the graphics I attempted to upload, as noted above. I realized in retrospect that I was making an error, so I withdrew the uploads.

However, why would you insultingly characterize my entry on "Canadianization" as nonsense? The definition I gave is standard usage in the broadcast industry worldwide, or at least, it was until the mid-90's. If you would like me to provide some data to back this up, I will, but why did you not simply post a request for more substantiation on the article itself, as opposed to removing it? Isn't that standard Wikipedia practice?

So be it. The 'speedy deletes' aren't supposed to go through like that, and I apologize. I was hoping you might read the notice before its deletion, and provide the necessary objections. My intentions are only to improve this website, and as such I have been trying to help get rid of unnecessary articles. I support you re-creating the article, so long as the following criteria are met (truly, these are more like recommendations):

1. The article title is rather long. (perhaps 'John Dupuis (Sci-fi editor)')

2. The article needs to contain sourced information, and should not be from your personal knowledge (though I do not doubt it's validity). This is extremely important.

3. You should provide the necessary links to the page wherever his name is present (exg. 'Aurora Award' page)

4 Provide more information (the biggest reason I felt it should be deleted, was the lack of intra-article information. From links in other places(once, again , 'Aurora Awards') one could deduce most of the article's subject.)

I will be happy to author the article if you do not wish to. (I also think this might help, since, as a colleague of the subject, your authorship may be slightly bias)

John Dupuis is a Canadian science fiction editor and critic currently living in Toronto. He has been active in science fiction circles for many years, and was one of the founders of Montreal's annual Con*Cept science fiction convention.

In 1997-98, Dupuis co-edited Canada's first alternate history anthology, Arrowdreams: An Anthology of Alternate Canadas with Montreal author Mark Shainblum. The book garnered two Aurora Awards for Canadian science fiction.

He currently works as a librarian at York University in Toronto.

(I am amazed the co-author of an award winning science fiction anthology is complaining about rewriting so much text, but once again, I'm happy to do it.)

Finally, on a more personal level, I know my place as an editor, and like all humans, am a victim of mistakes. I would also encourage you to stop making edits to your own page, and pages of subjects you are associated with in real life. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

IBS link[edit]

Hi,

I just removed the link you placed on the irritable bowel syndrome page, and I thought you might like an explanation (were it one of the generic spamlinks that get regularly thrown in the EL section I wouldn't bother, but this is potentially a valuable one and I don't want to disuade you from adding appropriate links). I looked over the link and was impressed with the length and detail of the organization's page. On some pages a link like this would be valuable. However, the IBS page is extremely lengthy, with 27 sections and 124 references. Also, the infobox at the top of the page contains links to the Diseases Database, MedlinePlus and eMedicine pages on IBS, all of which link to generic, encyclopedia-style information. WP:EL states that links should be kept to a minimum, and the section on links to be avoided first criteria is "Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article." I don't see what this resource adds to the page that is beyond what would be contained in an IBS featured article, and this is the primary reason I removed it. Hope this clears things up.
