Disambiguation link notification for March 15

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited The Earl of Essex Rebellion, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Beheaded (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Actually, no one has suggested i become an admin, possibly because i dont "feed the beast" as you point out at the top of this page. i have no ongoing relationships with other editors, and keep a low profile. I have looked at the RFA process in the past, and it seemed daunting. I will seriously consider if its something i want, and will let you know if... or whenever... i decide. thanks for the kind offer, feels good to be recognized for my work.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:37, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Regarding your WP:RFD closure of Futz!

I noticed that you did not leave a Template:Oldrfd notice at Talk:Futz! after you closed the respective WP:RFD. I have done so, but do note that administrators who close WP:RFD cases are required to do this per Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Administrator instructions if a redirect is kept: "For those redirects kept after the discussion, add {{Oldrfd}} to the redirect talk page." Mike Capel

Hello Wizardman, if you are accepting writing requests I would like to propose a collaboration on Mike Capel. The article is more or less a FA, minus a good copy edit of the "Professional career" section and some more information on his career with the Astros. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks.

PS: I have taken care of the remaining issues at the previous FAC, with the exception of what is left at the talk page. Albacore (talk) 17:11, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

List of Hawaii Warriors in the NFL Draft

Hey! I'm back on track at my work at FLC, and I found out that your list has almost a month without a single comment. I was inclined to archive it and let you re-nominate whenever you find it reasonable, but I preferred to ask you first if you have found any potential reviewers for it. Omak Airport

Hi, I note that you put a comment on the GA review page for Omak Airport:

  • So is this going to be reviewed? Got a skim but still needs a look through.

I am not sure what to do with it. It was allegedly reviewed by User:Alanchi1, but I wonder how thorough he was. I left him a note on his user page to say that he needed to close the review as he had marked it as "Pass", but have not had a response. Since then, I have looked at it a little more closely, and I think there are significant issues. I left a comment on the first five sentences of the Improvements section, highlighting a lot of gramatical errors, and when I checked the refs, several of the facts as stated were rather tenuously derived from them. I had a go at copyediting the Origin section, and the first para of the Improvements section, but quite honestly, it was almost a rewrite, in order to bring it in line with the refs. Looking at much of it, it all seems to suffer from similar problems, with the grammar rather muddled, and while most of it has references, much of the text does not clearly reflect what the refs say. If I was reviewing it, I think I would fail it until the grammar and refs were sorted, but as I did not nominate it or review it, I am not sure what the protocol is, and wondered if you know? Regards. Bob1960evens (talk) 20:10, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for offering to wrap up the review of the said GAR. I've contacted Secret about whether you could step in and finish the review. His userpage indicates he's taking a month and a half long wikibreak. How would you like to proceed with this? —Bloom6132 (talk) 20:15, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Good Article Nomination

Hi, I was wondering why the Good Article Nomination for Yeovil Town F.C. was abandoned?

OwenEarth (talk) 14:05, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The reviewer had stopped editing on Wikipedia. Since no action had been taken aside from "claiming" it, it seemed best to end the review and make the nomination available again, so an active reviewer could choose it. With any luck, someone will see that it's available soon. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:58, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

I need a review for a GAN

Hi Wizardman! I've been working on Rodrigo Bueno's article for the last months and I nominated for GA. I noticed you previously reviewed some articles about latin music, so I think you'd be a good reviewer for this one if you got the time. It would be a great favor if you could review it. Thanx--Rod840 (talk) 15:29, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Wizardman, I was checking some of the longer-standing reviews, and this one popped up. It was given an initial review at the end of February, but nominator Cla68 never responded. And won't be responding either, because Cla68 was given an indefinite block on March 6. There doesn't appear to be anyone else who has worked on the article, except for tiny adjustments.

I imagine the review should be closed as unlisted, unless someone's willing to take on the issues raised in the review, but you'll know better what's usually done in this unusual situation. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:53, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 March newsletter

We are halfway through round two. Pool A sees the strongest competition, with five out of eight of its competitors scoring over 100, and Pool H is lagging, with half of its competitors yet to score. WikiCup veterans lead overall; Pool A's Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (2010's winner) leads overall, with poolmate London Miyagawa (submissions) (a finalist in 2011 and 2012) not far behind. Pool F's New South Wales Casliber (submissions) (a finalist in 2010, 2011 and 2012) is in third. The top two scorers in each pool, as well as the next highest 16 scorers overall, will progress to round three at the end of April.

Today has seen a number of Easter-themed did you knows from WikiCup participants, and March has seen collaboration from contestants with WikiWomen's History Month. It's great to see the WikiCup being used as a locus of collaboration; if you know of any collaborative efforts going on, or want to start anything up, please feel free to use the WikiCup talk page to help find interested editors. As well as fostering collaboration, we're also seeing the Cup encouraging the improvement of high-importance articles through the bonus point system. Highlights from the last month include GAs on physicist Niels Bohr (Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions)), on the European hare (Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions)), on the constellation Circinus (Alaska Keilana (submissions) and New South Wales Casliber (submissions)) and on the Third Epistle of John (Indiana Cerebellum (submissions)). All of these subjects were covered on at least 50 Wikipedias at the beginning of the year and, subsequently, each contribution was awarded at least three times as many points as normal.

Wikipedians who enjoy friendly competition may be interested in participating in April's wikification drive. While wikifying an article is typically not considered "significant work" such that it can be claimed for WikiCup points, such gnomish work is often invaluable in keeping articles in shape, and is typically very helpful for new writers who may not be familiar with formatting norms.

A quick reminder: now, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. GA nomination

Can you please tell why GA nomination page for 2013 Thane building collapse is deleated?

The Signpost: 01 April 2013

Wizardman, this review has been stalled since March 2: Zanimum hasn't been back or even responded, despite a number of pings and prods on Zanimum's talk page by the nominator and by me. Can you please take a look at it, and finish it or make further requests as appropriate? Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:38, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

I've been directed to you about two articles listed here: Liana Alexandra and Şerban Nichifor. There's been an ongoing edit war about the articles. When I looked at the text, there appears to be a copyright violation in the current versions, and the articles listed need an administrator to look at the situation. I put the template on Alexandra's page, and another interested party has placed it on the Nichifor article. I thought the current version of Alexandra's article was too closely paraphrased from the online Grove source as represented on the Talk page (now removed - see history). There are earlier versions of the Alexandra article that could be used instead, but the edit war stands in the way of their use. Do you have, or know someone with access to the online Grove Encyclopedia who could check the articles for copyright issues and help resolve this problem? Pkeets (talk) 02:08, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

I'll take a look. I don't have access to Grove but some admins might have it. I'll see if I can find any. Wizardman 02:34, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Have Feller baseball

Congrats on getting this to FA. I have long admired him and met him once. I have two baseballs signed by him, one by a group and one only by him. Would you like a photo of one of them in the article? Also, why is it you virtually never respond to people on your talk page? PumpkinSky talk 02:48, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

To answer the second question first, I respond on others' talk pages because that's the point of them, and the new messages banner pops up for a reason. Should I post here I have no way of knowing if you'll ever read this. As for the first one, if you'd like to add that in my all means go ahead. Wizardman 01:01, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
RE to second question's answer--broken threads hurt my old brain ;-) will put up the photos tonight. The sigs I have look more like the second one here PumpkinSky talk 01:14, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
My baseball holders were rather dirty so I washed them after taking the balls out. So I'll photo them tomorrow. The one is just Bob's sig, the other has: Bob, Earl Weaver, Paul Blair, a sloppy one that is Rick Waits, and Doug Flynn. I was there when they were signed. The others only had one pen, but good ol' Bob had about two dozen pens and he'd let you pick which one he'd sign with. Bob was HOF at the time and Earl a few years later--that's two Hall of Famers on one ball. PumpkinSky talk 01:40, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi Wizardman, do you know if it's possible to use this template without the edit link?. Greetings. --JaviP96 12:17, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

I understand, so..., could you ask someone who know more about templates?, and inquire him another thing, in the template I see more parameters than in the documentation page like {{{extra|}}}, {{{border-width|1}}}, {{{titlefont-size|100%}}}, {{{padding|1em}}}, {{{border-top|{{{border-width|1}}}}}}px, etc. I think that this must be included there, because, for example, someone can want to have a title with a bigger size of letter. Thanks again. --JaviP96 19:02, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
Went ahead and asked another admin on this. If any talk page stalkers are able to help as well, that would be appreciated. Wizardman 20:58, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
I've checked, and as far as I can tell the edit link isn't conditional, so there isn't a way to transclude without it. — Coren (talk) 21:49, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Main Page appearance: Thurman Tucker

This is a note to let the main editors of Thurman Tucker know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on April 14, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or one of his delegates (Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), Gimmetoo (talk · contribs), and Bencherlite (talk · contribs)), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 14, 2013. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Thurman Tucker

Thurman Tucker (1917–93) was an American center fielder in Major League Baseball who played for nine seasons in the American League with the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians. In 701 career games, Tucker recorded a batting average of .255 and accumulated 24 triples, 9 home runs, and 179 runs batted in. He was nicknamed "Joe E." Tucker because of his resemblance to comedian Joe E. Brown. Born and raised in Gordon, Texas, he was a three-sport athlete at high school, playing baseball (where he was a second baseman), basketball, and track and field. Tucker first played baseball professionally with the Siloam Springs Travelers. After playing in minor league baseball, he was signed by the Chicago White Sox before the 1941 season. His major league debut came the following year and he spent two years as the White Sox's starting center fielder until he enlisted in the armed forces during World War II. Upon his return, Tucker played two more seasons for the White Sox. Subsequently, he was traded to the Cleveland Indians, for whom he played four years, and continued to play minor league baseball throughout the 1950s. After his retirement, he became a major league scout and insurance agent. (Full article...)

Admin

Hello, and thank you for thinking of me, but no thanks. I've been asked before, and even agreed once, so long as we waited until some RL issues had settled down, but by the time they did I'd changed my mind. From a personal point of view, in my day-to-day editing I don't often come across a need for the tools. And although I'm aware that there's a shortage of admins, I don't think my tendency to either over-react or disappear under pressure makes me particularly suited to fill the gap. Sorry. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 19:47, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello wizardman, I'm chipping in a bit but before I go too far just want to check that what I'm doing is okay. I'm quickly browsing the articles for ones that are just tables and data, with a minimal intro line/sentence that isn't really copyrightable with creative content - I do double check if its a little longer or suspect if it has had more than edit to create it - which to me means it was crafted rather than copied ? Do you have time for a GA review?

Hi there! I've just redone the biography for Lauren Conrad, and I see that you've contributed to some fantastic GA and FA biographies. Might you be interested in taking on the GAN review for LC? It's not too long of an article, so it shouldn't take too long to do. (No worries if you're not interested or don't have the time!) Regards, WikiRedactor (talk) 20:29, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

You are a Golden Editor!

Good as gold!
I have recently created a new award which I call the Golden Editor Award, and I am seeking to present it to Wikipedia's finest members. You would definitely fall into that category. I have not been around here for nearly as long as you, but it has not taken much time to discover how highly–respected you are, and that for good reason. Your work in various areas, especially promoted content and contributor copyright investigations, has benefited the community and readers alike. Your recent promotion to cratship demonstrates this and it is my pleasure to make you the third recipient of the Golden Editor Award! AutomaticStrikeout (TCSign AAPT) 15:31, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
A userbox for you, in case you wish to display it. Once again, congratulations and thank you! AutomaticStrikeout (TCSign AAPT) 15:35, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Assistance request

I have an issue I was hoping to get your thoughts on, I noticed you were on the editor assistance list. I'm stuck in an odd spot with Ghost in the Shell, embroiled in a 4 month long debate which has not seen a conclusion. The DRN has gone stale and no one has taken it up yet the editor involved continues modifications and prevents me from doing any of mine. I was wondering if you could advise. It is a complex matter. Merge of account

Hi, I have a request concerning the merging of the english account user:snipre with the SUL account of the same name. The english contributor Snipre is the oldest but I create the SUL account in other wikipedias. And as the english contributor didn't contribute since 2005 I am wondering if I can usurp his account in order to be able to work in WP:en without needing to change of account. You can contact me on fr:user:Snipre. Thank you 141.6.11.15 (talk) 12:53, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Noted. I'll ask a steward about that early next week; why I'm waiting will make sense then. Wizardman 21:59, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

A barnstar for you

The Writer's Barnstar

Bobby Lewis (basketball)

You recently created this article. I just wanted to make you aware that there is already an article for this subject: Bob Lewis (basketball, born 1945). You may want to initiate deleting or merging the two articles. Rikster2 (talk) 00:03, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 27

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Golden State Warriors all-time roster, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jeff Mullins (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Request to close a particularly difficult discussion.

Hi Wizardman. On this page we have an MfD/CSD-DRV/RfCU/NewAccountBanDiscussion. There is also a messy SPI request resolving nothing.

As I said somewhere else, I have seen you do a good job closing difficult discussions. Would you consider closing or contributing or commenting at WT:MfD? --SmokeyJoe (talk) 02:53, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for writing in English. I'm writing to ask you, as a bureaucrat of this wiki, to translate and review the notification that will be sent to all users, also on this wiki, who will be forced to change their user name on May 27 and will probably need your help with renames. You may also want to help with the pages m:Rename practices and m:Global rename policy. Thank you, Nemo 13:07, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

FA Thanks

On behalf of WP:CHICAGO, I would like to thank you for your editorial contributions to Juwan Howard, which has recently become a WP:FA.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 08:03, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Why did you revert the edit request? The correct grammatical way to show those dates is with the extra comma. TCN7JM 22:10, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

What to do with an unhonest administrator behavior?

The former text of the article Anatolii Alexeevitch Karatsuba (about one Russian mathematician) sutisfies to all Wikipedia requirement. This is an article about one of the best Russian mathematicians ever who invented first fast multiplication algorithm inplemented at present almost in all computers. He had a lot of other top level mathresults in number theory and some other fields. The article is well sourced. However SteveJ (administrotir) deleted the article and put his own text with one line which downplay the A.A. Karatsuba results only because of the reason that it doesn't correspond to his own view. Other administrators protected StevenJ variant (do not let us to revert our text) and wrote that we (who edited the text about A.A. Karatsuba) must come to consensus with Stevenj. However, he do not want any consensus on any conditions excluding his own text in three lines, one of them is very offensive for A.A. Karatsuba (everybody who knows about real facts can confirm it). What to do? Our discussion with him turned out to absurd because he pretends he does not see our sources (published by Springer papers in mathjournals), but as his sources quoted words of "notalble people" (by his opinion) but not publications. We agree (see Talk page Anatolii Alexeevitch Karatsuba) to delete such claims in this article which very annoyed Stevenj (although they are right, and all explanations have been made to Stevenj, he rejected them bacause it doesn't correspond to some other Wikipedia texts which Stevenj created himself!). So we tried to state such a consensus deleting what Stevenj stated as "exaggerated claims". However, it is not enough for him. He simple don't want that any good text about A.A. Karatsuba would be. I will not mention "double standards": I edited some other Wikipedia texts about American mathematicians and never had problems like that with this paper about Russian mathematician. How to block this troll? If the troll is an administrator?Mathtruth (talk) 10:26, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Just to let you know that you have been mentioned in my comment here, concerning an issue with which you are slightly related. If you have anything to say, you're welcome to contribute. J Milburn (talk) 17:09, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
