Werdnabot doesn't like me[edit]

I added the werdnabot text to my user talk page and set it to go off after three days. It's been longer than that and werdnabot doesn't seem to be archiving me. Did I mess something up? I haven't received any error messages. --Yamla 04:56, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to add my voice to this. I've been using this for sometime, and about 3 days ago it seemed to have stopped functioning. Just as another report, there are sections that are older than five days (seven days to be precise) that have not been archived on my talk page yet the Werdnabot coding is set up correctly (as it was working fine up to August 13). --TMF ^{T - C} 00:37, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bot request[edit]

This is an insanely trivial thing, but I was wondering on the possibility of overriding the X day limit, i.e. allowing  keep a section indefinitely, and  remove a section (such as a trivial RFA "thank you") archive it on the bot's next check. Deletion of my comments[edit]

Please don't delete my comments (or revert your prior deletion) from the debate page. As I said, if you feel that I have acted inappropriately, please post a notice or respond to the notice I posted about your actions on AN/I (or take whatever course of action, save deletion of my comments, you see fit). I ask you sincerely, as the deletion was, imho, utterly unwarranted and broke the 'comprehendability' of the discussion on a page expressly established for debate. My refactoring of the discussion was simply to improve readability, and not to become involved in the discussion. I do not see the Administrator's Noticeboard as a place to go with all of your problems — our dispute resolution process works just fine for me. The first step is something you should be in particular aware of. You should speak directly to the user, on their talk page, via email, or on IRC. I am contactable here, by email and on IRC under the nick Werdna. At this stage, it is important to assume good faith. If you can't resolve the dispute via this channel, you should seek informal mediation from the mediation cabal, or formal mediation from the mediation committee. I would likely have backed down by now, as I was simply trying to do what everybody seemed to think should be done — a refactoring of the discussion. Posting to the Administrator's Noticeboard in the hopes that I would be blocked or publically shamed for refactoring a discussion is counterproductive and ineffective. After mediation, you may consider taking the case to arbitration, although in this situation, arbitration, and probably even mediation, would be overkill. Since this was a single thread of discussion, I felt that your selective refactoring really wasn't appropriate (as others corroborated on AN/I)... so needless to say we disagree on the wisdom of your decision to remove my comments. I am grateful, however, that you chose not to revert your deletion. I would similarly suggest that you refrain from editing others' comments without endeavoring yourself to resolve conflicts, just as you advised. Your RfA[edit]

Hi Werdna. I am posting here since this is the standard page for posting comments.

My goal in writing this message is to help you make it thru next time you try. Here are my suggestions:

Be as civil as you can in your everyday edits and interactions. Remember that everyone has feelings and try your very best to be WP:CIVIL and WP:AGF. For example, reduce the sarcasm to a bare minimum (never is best), try not to revert Talk pages except in cases of clear vandalism - if you think some comment was not to the point or irrelevant, just let it slide - WP will survive even if not all comments are absolutely relevant
Use the words 'ridiculous' etc. to describe someone else's thoughts or comments as little as possible (never is best) - just try to tone down your criticism of others, even if you are absolutely convinced you are right (and you may well be)
Be judicious also in edit summaries - try to be low key and respectful - again, AGF and CIVIL
Try to make amends with FloNight - if you apologize and show her your new ways she will support you
Do not retry RfA again too soon. Give it a few months, where you prove to us and to yourself that you can handle stressful situations with coolness and civility per above
When you do try RfA again (and you should), do the following:

State upfront the RfA history with its main criticisms and how you have addressed them
Give example of situations which were stressful to you, yet you kept cool and collected, with minimum or no sarcasm in messages and edit summaries
When/if you see an Oppose vote, try your very very best to ignore it, unless you see a clear cut case of mis-information, and even then think long and hard about it - each time you protest an Oppose, there are some that view it negatively. I know this is tough, but it will be better to sit back and let your recent edits in stressful situations speak for themselves. Try not to argue with the Oppose voters, hard as it is, and you'll come out ahead.

That's it. I hope you understand that I, and virtually every other editor in the Oppose camp, want you to succeed personally and help all of us together make WP a success. I think if you really try you'll make it.

Werdnabot on AN[edit]

I noticed you disbled AN archiving by Werdnabot. Do you know why it was stalling? Does Werndabot need the archive target not to be a redlink, because the last time I incremented the target number I did not make a first edit to the target file. I created the target tonight but you disabled the code before it ran.

Also, previously Wb could not distinguish level 2 sections from level 3, and would archive the level 2 section if it was old enough, leaving more recent comments in a level 3 subsection behind (and causing the subsection to attach to a previous irrelevant section). Bot 2RD question[edit]

Hi. I've been using Werdnabot's 2RD fixer. So far, I've only been using it for pages that appear quite a bit on Special:DoubleRedirects, per the instructions (which say "large number" of 2RDs)... I was wondering if that means I shouldn't just write a regex to work on the Special page, output it in the right format and copy-paste 100 or so at a time. This would cut down labor a huge amount, assuming that you don't have to work to feed the info to the bot. So I guess I'm just asking: do you have to do any work for it to read the request page and/or act on it? is there some other reason I should not do that?

Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!

AMA IRC[edit]

Hi Werdna - if you can (I noticed you as alternate contact), could you change the access settings for the channel #AMA.Wikipedia, so we can have a couple of regular AMA IRC'ers opped? At the moment, I'm thinking primarily of Royalguard11 (IRC User) and myself (Martinp23 on IRC), as we seem to be on the channel most often. Of course, we can then pass on op priveliges to the more senior people (like thadman) when the channel gets more popular (when - not if).
