Tallahassee bus boycott[edit]

Hi Vincentjrankin. I see that you are a student that is also new to Wikipedia. I wanted to give you a pointer that can substantially improve your contribution. Be specific. Examples include:

  • "The driver declared that the ..." - Please identify the driver.
  • "Later that day, the students were bailed out by the Dean of Students." - Please identify the Dean of Students.
  • "... led Student Government Association officers to call for a meeting of the student body." - Who are the Student Government Association officers?

Article capitalization[edit]

I see that you have twice moved Animal rights movement to Animal Rights Movement. Wikipedia's convention for article titles is to use lower case: please see Wikipedia:Article titles#Article title format. I understand from your edit summary that you consider the name to be a proper noun, and that is certainly a reasonable consideration. However, it really is not such a unified and focused movement for that to be correct. Please note also that Human rights movement and Human rights movement in the Soviet Union are capitalized the way that they are. Soviet Union is indeed a proper noun, but even the specific human rights movement in that place is treated by Wikipedia as lower case. --Tryptofish (talk) 03:10, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If the Animal Rights Movement is a proper name, then it should be capitalized, even in sentence case. A proper name is a noun or noun phrase that denotes a particular thing. The Animal Rights Movement is a particular social movement. Unlike human rights movements, for which there are perhaps innumerable derivations, the Animal Rights Movement is both unified and focused insofar as even starkly contrasted factions have the same goal; a particular movement can be and is often divided. According to already established guidelines, "Animal Rights Movement" is the proper title. It is possible that other article titles neglect this capitalization convention also. I guess it's not a big deal, but that would be the correct capitalization, lest there is a reason why "the" Animal Rights Movement is really just "an" animal rights movement. In the sociological literature, however, the Animal Rights Movement is acknowledged as a social movement and capitalized as I have done. There is an accepted process for reaching a consensus on the proper name for a page. You can find it at WP:RM. It's better than just moving the page around when there is some disagreement – a practice known as WP:EDITWARRING, which is highly discouraged here. Also see WP:BRD, which suggest that if someone reverts your action, the proper course is to start a discussion on the relevant Talk page.
