Dear Uncle Milty:

I sent you an e-mail by clicking on your e-mail to me, but it said "NO REPLY" so I really do not know if you received it.

Basically, I apologized and explained that at my age I am not well versed in using social media--so I usually avoid it. Actually, it is my children and grandchildren who positively nag me to "get modern" and it seems my first attempt at using the Wikipedia page blew up in my face.

In my e-mail I told you thanks for deleting it and would have left it at that. But here again, the young ones say I need to sort this out with you.

So, here goes: When I was sent the Dr. Olga Graham page, and it asked me to "write something" I thought you wanted a BIO. So, I wrote a brief BIO and mentioned how, in my youth, I was an editor and investigative journalist in Oromocto, New Brunswick, during the era agent orange (dioxin)was sprayed there. We thought it was spraying for mosquitoes back there in the 1960's only to find out in the 1980's it was actually dioxin which has caused a lot of sicknesses and deaths,and shows such a correlation between the rise of autism it cannot be denied. The connection was made as I was investigating birth defects for York University where I worked from 1974. I am now retired.

In my Bio I included the bit about agent orange because the ratio has climbed to one in 88 and still escalating (CENTRE FOR DISEASE CONTROL--CDC). Consequently, the research was published to inform and attempt to help the parents who have been devastated by autism.

My grandson thinks that you wanted to delete the page because it sounded like an ad to you. No doubt because I told readers to check the reviews on Amazon Books and also go to the website:www.agentorangecanada.com I was offering readers more information by going to these sites. It was not an attempt to sell the book. My research was not commercial (any proceeds go to agent orange research)--it was to give the details of what has been discovered about this disorder. I really am clueless about social media and I am sorry my motive was misinterpreted.

The research is well documented and empirical evidence is provided about the link between teratogens (such as dioxin) and autism.

My grandson thinks I should not have mentioned the reviews on Amazon--and that was what made my information seem commercial. I am asking you if this is so.

So, this matter is really up to you. Maybe, you did not even want my BIO on the page. I really do not know. So, please inform me.

Dr. Graham, thank you for commenting here, as I did not receive an email from you. I am not the one who deleted your page, I only tagged it for deletion, as it did appear to be promotional based upon Wikipedia guidelines. Your page was deleted by an administrator named Jimfbleak (talk · contribs).

I believe you have been misled into thinking that Wikipedia is "social media". It is not. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia written and maintained by volunteers. While a user page can be a good place for a Wikipedia volunteer to write a short bio about oneself, it should not be used at all for promotion. Even non-profit entities are not exempt from this regulation.

Most college men's basketball coaches in the US meet GNG because the sport receives significant media coverage (as does college American football). The actual guideline reads "College athletes and coaches are notable if they have been the subject of non-trivial media coverage beyond merely a repeating of their statistics, mentions in game summaries, or other WP:ROUTINE coverage. Examples would include head coaches, well-known assistant coaches, or players who:" then proceeds to name some notability criteria for players. There is no question in my mind that ALL division I men's basketball and football coaches receive ample coverage to meet GNG. It is a huge business, and media coverage is significant. The movie's getting made and there is a lot of evidence to support that. You are just lazy. Fact of the matter is, there are blogs and self-produced web sites regarding the HD Restoration of Manos on THAT page. @Sakarega: That was an attack page, and was quite rude about its subject without citing any sources for what it said. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a gossip site for you to write about your friends. I suggest you read WP:Notability (people) and WP:Biographies of living persons which includes:

"Contentious material about living persons... that is unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable – should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion."

New on Wikipedia

Hello Uncle Milty,

I am new on Wikipedia and if I have violated Wikipedia’s guidelines it was just a mistake.

What should I change or delete for my sandbox page in order to be encyclopedic? If I create a page telling people what OffersAroundME is, what it does, when the company was founded and who are the cofounders is it going to be characterized as promotional? If yes is there any way to create an encyclopedic page informing people are interested in to learn some for this company in Wikipedia?
