Fair use rationale for Image:BettyBigombe.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BettyBigombe.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 03:27, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Status of review[edit]

What's the status of your review for Jan Reimer? It seems that your suggestions for improvement haven't been answered, so I think it is safe to go ahead and fail the article. Nikki311 21:37, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The LGBTProject and its relation to HIVAIDS[edit]

A debate is going here which could use input from editors from outside our project. Thankyou. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 12:14, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have just reverted your edit to the House of Lords article. I assume your "see also" text was intended for a different location, as it does not appear to have any bearing on the colours of Parliamentary benches. You may wish to reinsert your text into a more appropriate position. ^_~ Road Wizard (talk) 20:07, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Fairtradenus.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fairtradenus.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:07, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Category:Labour Party life peers[edit]

I noticed you have been removing peers from Category:Life peers and placing them in Category:Labour Party life peers. Was this discussed anywhere? In the past, subcategories of Life peers have proved controversial, in particular Category:Female life peers.

At present the are four other subcats: Female life peers, Law lords, People's peers and Pre-1876 life peers. In all expect the last, articles listed in those categories are also listed directly under Life peers. (Pre-1876 life peers aren't really what we would think of as regular life peers, so that part makes sense.) Indeed, it seems odd to have a category for Labour peers, and not for other parties or Crossbenchers. Without those other categories, the Labour peers should be left in the Life peers category too.

In addition, I'm not sure about the name "Labour Party life peers". Perhaps "Labour life peers" would be better? JRawle (Talk) 22:18, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All I can find now is at Category talk:Life_peers. It's a different situation from the Labour peers, though. Either their should be a division of all articles into subcats (e.g. by party) or else a category is for a subset of special interest, e.g. female peers, in which case they should also be listed in the main cat to prevent the latter becoming in effect "male peers".
Decide on a definitive naming scheme, then perhaps have a go at moving the others into similar categories (Conservative life peers or whatever). I guess some will be listed in more than one if they changed allegiance. There are also non-affiliated peers to consider (as distinct from Crossbenchers). JRawle (Talk) 22:44, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have no particular view on this, but with the much weaker whipping in the Lords, peers someimes move to the cross-benches, so that a person may be a Labout peer at one date and not at another. This is a bigger issue than those who cross the floor of the Commons (who are rarities). Peterkingiron (talk) 21:46, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is this not over-categorisation? Why has Leon Brittan (a conservative) not been moved? Kittybrewster 12:25, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:LANSpool.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:LANSpool.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 07:24, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:BillieHoliday_ImAFoolToWantYou.ogg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BillieHoliday_ImAFoolToWantYou.ogg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? BigrTex 02:11, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Sample box[edit]

Hi, TreveX. I have a question about the Sample box start/end templates you created; it seems there's a problem with them. If you look at Jazz or Dixie (song) (the two examples I saw), the template isn't ending when it should, and instead puts everything following it into the box, including references, external links, other templates, etc. Can you take a look at it and figure out what's going on here? I'm not all that familiar with templates and such. Regards, Parsecboy (talk) 05:01, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:George_dance.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:MuseveniGesturing.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:MuseveniGesturing.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion.
