The Evolution of Fantasy Role-Playing Games

I've been using "The Evolution of Fantasy Role-Playing Games" by Michael Tresca as a source today. I think you added it to the Dwarf article last month, but I noticed it was used on some D&D video game articles as well, so I've been sharing it around (I'm not done yet). I've only got access to the free online copy, so there is a lot missing that I can't use it for right now, but I'm going to do what I can with it. Since we happen to be working on the video game articles anyway, it's convenient that this is the section available online! Yes, that's a nice one. I tried adding an article by Tresca (www.examiner.com/article/gen-con-2012-keynote-the-future-of-dungeons-dragonsan) to The Sundering article when I created it, but Examiner is blacklisted. Dragonlance characters

I didn’t see any hits for the Knights of Solamnia in HighBeam, but do you think any of these would be useful?

I didn’t find anything that looked good in HighBeam for other major characters like Caramon Majere, Lord Soth, Sturm Brightblade, Dalamar, Flint Fireforge, Tanis Half-Elven, Laurana Kanan, Riverwind, Kitiara uth Matar, or Tika Waylan. BOZ (talk) 15:58, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Heh, yeah, HighBeam was the first place I went when I saw that AfD for the Knights. As for the ones above, the Tasslehoff one is trivial, just saying he's the main character in a story. The Goldmoon one actually has a pretty good little nugget about multiple writers working in the same fictional world and accidentally killing her off. I'll see about adding that in. The first Raistlin source is also trivial, and the second is borderline, might be able to squeeze a bit of plot summary out of it. —Torchiest talkedits 16:05, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
OK! I restored Goldmoon and Raistlin Majere. The funny thing about Goldmoon is that her article actually used to be a GA, but that was passed back when standards were looser, and a later GAR found the article lacking. We have always believed that Raistlin had the most potential of the Dragonlance characters, even if it's not yet showing. BOZ (talk) 16:17, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Speaking of putting a source to work, it looks like this one may contain some good info for Christie Golden and Vampire of the Mists - [5]. Now there seem to be a lot of pages like these on HighBeam; from what I can see they are bios of various authors, with lists of their works, and sometimes other info. This one appears to describe some of her books in more detail, so I think we can make use of it. I have seen quite a few articles(?) like this on HighBeam, so maybe later after we make more progress with the video game stuff we can go through those and see what’s good. OK, having clicked on Contemporary Authors, I have a better idea of what that source is all about. Like I say, I have seen numerous pages on HighBeam like this one for Ms. Golden – at some future point I'll have to compile them so we can go through them one by one. From the search engine, I get the feeling that this one can also help with Dance of the Dead (Ravenloft novel) and The Enemy Within (novel); would any other D&D articles be improved with this source? The first one is a trivial, one sentence summary of the entire plot. The second one is a little better, but it's more about the company than the movie, and it was tough to reference any of the specifics in the plot with the very broad description in the source. People had seen the review scores for Diablo III on Metacritic, the disappointment on Amazon, the rage on the forums, the outcries on Reddit, the anger on N4G and everywhere else in between and instantly ran wild with "Oh noes, the internet exploded in rage again",

There was overlap with conduct initially, but since they haven't continued edit warring, I think DRN will be the appropriate venue. I've never participated at that page before, so I'm not familiar with the procedures. September drive query

Hi, I am currently engaged in copyediting drive articles for September and I am unsure what to do with an article that I can no longer work on, due to my inability to access material for suitable citations. Copy editing articles does not necessarily require adding new citations. You are of course always welcome to do as much work as you want, but strictly in terms of the goals of the copy editing drive, the aim is to fix problems with the writing itself, not find sources for the entire article. Many articles we work on are still far from complete after being copy edited. I hope that answers your question. HighBeam for D&D articles (part 2)

Hey, I don't know if you were done with that source you were using for Baldur's Gate, but did you ever get a chance to look at this one for Ian Livingstone (and possibly a number of other D&D, RPG, and VG related subjects)? Yeah, the source I used in BG has a lot of good information for a few other contemporaries like Diablo II and a couple Wizardry games, but those aren't high on my list of articles to work on. I forgot about the Livingstone article. It has a lot of good information about him and a little about Deathtrap Dungeon and some of his other games. GOCE September 2012 drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The October 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.
