Hello

Saw an edit run of yours and wanted to come by to ask if you'd have an interest in the new WP:WikiProject Civil Rights Movement, and then when I came to your user page, Wow. You've done wonderful work here, thank you. Randy Kryn (talk) 15:31, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

  • I had no idea this project existed, really. Nice! (I also wrote most of the National Museum of African American History and Culture article, and did a lot of work on List of museums focused on African Americans. Museums are a big part of my interest.) - Tim1965 (talk) 15:40, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
    • It's very new, created by user Coffee and having some counter-effort thrown at it (see his talk page). Thanks for those creations, and the rest. I've done a lot of small but needed edits on art museum pages in the past year or so, and to me museums sit near the height of human history as repositories and reminders. Nice work. Help with Washington, D.C.-based Gallup?

Hi Tim1965! I see you have been an active, constructive editor for Washington, D.C.-related articles. Would you be interested to review these proposed updates to the Gallup infobox and Gallup Press section of Gallup and make the changes to the live article if appropriate? The requests are pretty simple and straightforward. As disclosed on the Gallup Talk page, I have a financial conflict of interest, as I'm offering these updates on behalf of the company as part of my work with Beutler Ink, so I'm looking for other editors to review. I've reached out to several places looking for editors, including Talk:Gallup, WikiProject District of Columbia, and WikiProject Nebraska, but I haven't received any responses yet. Thanks for considering, Danilo Two (talk) 20:32, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

Sources needed for Days of the Year pages

You're probably not aware but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details see the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide. If it was only one addition, I would have tried to find a source and add it, but you have added several so your changes have been undone. If you restore them, please provide direct reliable sources. Thanks. Toddst1 (talk) 02:10, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

About the map of the Watergate Complex

Tim1965, in this map of the Watergate Complex, the Watergate 600 building (the building that did not house the DNC offices that were burglarized in '72; it's marked in black) is identified as "Watergate Office Building". This would create confusion with the Watergate Hotel and Office Building (the building that did house the DNC offices that were burglarized in '72; it's marked in green, with the office portion distinguished by some tiny gray lines).

This map was created in mid-2009. Can a mistake like this still be corrected (change it to say "Watergate 600" beside the black square instead)? Jim856796 (talk) 20:30, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

  • Unfortunately, I don't have the original file any more. What really needs to happen is to have this file redone in an .svg format or using some sort of CAD software (instead of the freehand geometric images I created in Paint). - Tim1965 (talk) 19:56, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
  • So will you still be updating the map using the formats you mentioned so it can be used in the Watergate Complex article? Jim856796 (talk) 18:07, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
Let me see if I still have the file. - Tim1965 (talk) 03:56, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for your additions, please keep them coming. One thing, I personally find it helpful in additions like this [1] to add some sort of WP-relevant quote. I would have added it myself, but the Tri County Times article looks like this to me:

"451: Unavailable due to legal reasons

We recognize you are attempting to access this website from a country belonging to the European Economic Area (EEA) including the EU which enforces the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and therefore access cannot be granted at this time. For any issues, contact news@tctimes.com or call 810-629-8282."

Kinda sucks, but that's how it is. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:54, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

I know you will see that I made this cosmetic change to the headers. This is the way that I have seen the two headers handled in other articles. I know that both WP:OTHERSTUFF and WP:IAR apply and if you prefer the previous version please feel free to change it back. After reading the article I look forward to the next CC 50% off sale to add the film to my library :-) Thanks again for your work and have a pleasant weekend. MarnetteD|Talk 18:57, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Thomas Carnegie

Hi! Thomas was actually buried next to his wife, Lucy, on Cumberland Island. I have been to our family cemetery and have pictures of his grave. He may have been an Allgheny at some point, but his final resting place is Cumberland Island. Bfly3 (talk) 18:45, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

I just saw where you corrected. Thank you so much! Bfly3 (talk) 18:59, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi

Hi Tim. I think you did an outstanding job on Salvatore Todaro and Joseph Lonardo, so I've nominated them for GA as the coverage and sourcing looks great. It will probably want their leads to be expanded, however. Also, since your coverage is good, you must not have seen this, but I find it strange that Lonardo, being born in Italy, his born given name is Joseph and not the more likely Giuseppe... you haven't come across any sourcing to support this? Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:02, 23 August 2019 (UTC)

Wow, thanks for the kind words about the articles! As far as I can tell, only a single source uses the name "Giuseppe" for Lonardo, but the source doesn't say he was born with that name. I know, it seems ludicrous. I can keep trying to find a source. I'll look at the leads, too. - Tim1965 (talk) 00:38, 24 August 2019 (
FWIW, I also did Alfred Polizzi and Frank Milano (mobster), too. - Tim1965 (talk) 19:56, 24 August 2019 (UTC)
That is strange about Lonardo, because it seems hard to believe, but we must have sources. Those articles look great as well (just need lead expansions). With regards to Polizzi's possible burial, I found this picture and claim on Flickr saying it is believed Alfred was buried in an unlabeled plot in the family section of Calvary Cemetery, but I can't find a reliable source? (There is also no prose, or source, of him being a "Construction firm owner"). I see you're also working on Joseph Porrello - I'm also surprised his article had not already been made. Thanks. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 20:06, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
You found my Flickr site! There are lots of original sources that document Polizzi living in Coral Gables, owning a construction firm, and building much of the city. But nothing published, and Wikipedia frowns on use of original sources and original research. I can use that info on my Flickr site, but not on Wikipedia. As for his unmarked grave, several people in Cleveland who are local organized crime historians say Calvary Cemetery is where Polizzi is buried. But there's no real evidence, just a strong belief. I finished expanding the leads in the Lonardo and Todaro articles.- Tim1965 (talk) 00:16, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
Oh, that's cool. I actually do see prose for his work in construction with some book sources, I don't know why I said there wasn't. Yes, thanks for expanding those two leads, it's the other two for Polizzi and Milano need touching. With regards to his unmarked grave, I find it odd that the grave is unmarked, maybe to prevent vandalism, but whatever the case is, no one can be sure without a reliable source, so I have removed the unsourced statement, unless a source can be found that even mentions the possibility of his burial there. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:07, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
My sense is that the families of some organized crime figures don't want the graves marked. They could become shrines for criminals, or vandalized, or whatnot. Angelo Lonardo's grave is not marked, for example. (It is reliably sourced as to where he is buried, and Calvary Cemetery's burial database tells the public what plot number he is in. That enabled me to photograph his unmarked grave.) - Tim1965 (talk) 16:45, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

2019 US Banknote Contest

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Organized labour project

Hi - I noticed you are one of the original members of the organized labour project who is still active (and editing labour-related issues). I'm contacting active original members as the project has fallen inactive of late and have a couple of thoughts of getting things moving again:

  • redesign of the project page using the new project x tool - some examples here Wikipedia:WikiProject_X/Dashboard
  • trying to identify editors to focus on regional levels - esp. Africa, MENA and Asia
  • start a newsletter
  • targeted work on gender and unions (eg seeking support from projects on women, feminism, making women blue etc)
  • generalised encouragement of editors involved (eg a Stakhanovite barnstar...not being completely facetious)

Cheers

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well T. MarnetteD|Talk 20:56, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
