About me[edit]

Francophone African man living in the USA. I love knowledge, and the idea of having a place where I can access a never ending source of general knowledge just blows my mind, and I just had to participate.

Welcome by BanyanTree[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!

Thanks for your edits to Freddy Matungulu. There are not enough editors working on topics like this and your contributions are much appreciated! In accordance with Wikipedia:Names I have moved the article to a space where readers are more likely to look for it. All of the redirects still reach the new location. Thanks and happy editing. Hi Themalau - there are a lot of different stub types. theyre all listed at WP:WSS/ST. if youre mainly working on african articles then a lot of the ones youll need are on Wikipedia:Africa-related regional notice board (which you might like to check out anyway!). greetings, DRC[edit]

Hi, I am pleased to see we have someone from the Congo contributing articles on the topic. I have been working on articles pertaining to it for several months now, but admittedly my knowledge is limited and information about DRC is difficult to obtain right now due to the situation there. I noticed you've added some info on the recent referendum, I have also done this and that info can be found here, but you may be more update to date on this than i am. Anyway, welcome and let me know if you need any help. --Gozar 03:20, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A question, though, regarding the new flag of the DR Congo: Are you sure the version used will be the one with the larger star and not the one with the smaller star more recently in use? Thanks! —Nightstallion (?) 09:23, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
U know what, that is a very good question... and from the picture currently on the President's webpage, you seem to be more right than I am on this. If you want to switch them now, go ahead. But otherwise, I will do it later today. Thank you for the note.Themalau 09:54, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ville / City[edit]

Mbote Themalau,

C'est moi qui ai bossé sur la version française de toute la structure administrative. Bien de s'y mettre aussi en anglais, mais pour l'infobox, le terme ville n'est pas bon. "Ville" (which can be translated by "city") a une définition légale en DRC (voir ma remarque sur Talk:Banana, Democratic Republic of the Congo).

Regards,

Vberger 12:04, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am quite impressed with the amount of knowledge you have on the Congo. I wish I could know more about you. I mean your take on some of the topics, and the fact that you speak Wallon, make me think that you are probably a "noko", but I would like to know more.
Themalau 07:56, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A mondele ! In fact most of my knowledge comes from various sources on the web.
Well, I am just quite bilingual in French and English, plus not far in Dutch and Walloon. For the rest, as I live in a city with 30% percents of people from various nationalities (Liège, Belgium), 30 kiliometers from the Netherlands (10 minutes with the motorway), 50 from Germany (25 minutes), 70 from Luxemburg (...) and 100 from France, it is not too hard to have some culture and a linguistic culture.
For Congo, I was born in Zambia, and I worked for 9 monthes in Kinshasa in 2003 for an international NGO as the Administrative Manager. I'll try to come back there as an international observer for the elections. You also seem to be far away from your mother land...
It is not easy in fact to translate some french words in english for Congo. For exemple, "City" is "Ville" and not "Cité", which is only a town in a territory, or historicaly, the congolese part of the main cities.
Vberger 08:32, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A bit late here, but isn't Cité as in Cité indigène called a township in English? --moyogo 15:06, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

duplicate articles[edit]

Hi Themalau, I have merged over the information in Democratic Republic of the Congo (new) on administrative divisons to Democratic Republic of the Congo and deleted the duplicate article. If there was something else in that article that you wanted to merge over, please tell me and I will recreate it as a subpage of your user space. Also, I have merge the page histories of Ituri with the modifed cut-and-paste you created at Ituri Province. Both of these cases deal with creation of articles on duplicate subjects, which are considered very bad. If you wish to move content under a new title, please use the "move" tab at the top of your screen. If there are other edits duplicate articles that you have created, please inform me of what they are and I will assist in cleaning it up. Thanks, BanyanTree 16:07, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey BT, thank you. The reason why I created a duplicate there, was because at the time, the matters were tentaive. I had planned to do the merge too, I just forgot. Themalau 19:48, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since Political parties of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has translated the names, I wasn't too keen to do it, but the most important parties from the list at fr:Élection législative congolaise de juillet 2006 should probably be added. ---moyogo 21:23, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour![edit]

Themalau 11:54, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:100cdf2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:100cdf2.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Speedy deletion of Template:Kinshasa infobox[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:Kinshasa infobox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{tranclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 03:17, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:BCCongo.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BCCongo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:41, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Coa.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Coa.PNG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 11:04, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Contests[edit]

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
