Request for Help with Current FAC[edit]

Hello again! I hope that you are having a wonderful week so far. I was wondering if you could possibly help me with my current FAC? I would be more than happy to review anything in return for your help. Either way, good luck with your current work and your future projects. Aoba47 (talk) 03:50, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Aoba47: I'd be glad to! I'll get to it later today. JOEBRO64 11:22, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Don't burn yourself out, but here is something to help guide you towards completing a good topic. I may have some time to help on an article or two over the holidays. TarkusABtalk 00:10, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@TarkusAB: Thanks for this! I've honestly been dying to get Sonic CD to GA status but always get stuck at the reception section. Also, in case you're interested, I've been working on a draft for the 8-bit version of Sonic 1. JOEBRO64 01:14, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'm not sure I want to work on those. I may try for Pocket Adventure. TarkusABtalk 02:02, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"the need to blend the series' shooting elements" -> "blending the series' shooting elements"

Simple and brilliant. Should have seen it myself. Popcornduff (talk) 03:43, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Popcornduff: Thanks! I was actually just going to change "need" to something else, but then I realized that the entire sentence could be shortened.
Also, I recently read your essay on "bullshit words". Would you mind if I added "lore" (nerd term for "plot" or "backstory") to it? JOEBRO64 20:18, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear, that's embarrassing. That "essay" is just an unfinished ramble I've been fiddling with on my sandbox, not meant for public consumption yet. But yes, "lore" is a good one, feel free to stick it in there. Popcornduff (talk) 02:15, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DC Universe[edit]

Good morning TheJoebro64, we have to talk. Watchmen is not from Vertigo, it's from regular DC. Stein256 (talk) 13:30, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Stein256: That sentence in the article isn't about Vertigo, it's about non-DCU comics. The way it was previously written implied that The Sandman was non-DCU, which is inaccurate. JOEBRO64 20:08, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Argento Surfer: I was only able to find this small part. JOEBRO64 20:46, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I went back to look, and that article only had information about various writers of Constantine and some in-universe material as he relates to Swamp Thing. Nothing too in-depth. Some Wizards had interviews with cast and creators of the film when it was released, but I don't have those specific issues. They're cheap, if you're really committed. Otherwise, I'll keep an eye out. Argento Surfer (talk) 14:17, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yoshi's Island[edit]

The 3DS version of Yoshi's Island is NOT a port. Porting is when the game's original code and assets are modified to re-run on another platform. Yoshi's Island itself was not modified, an emulator tailored for running the game on 3DS was created. If you disagree, I'd like to know why you say Yoshi's Island is a port but no other Virtual Console games (including any GBA ones) are. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 16:48, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@ThomasO1989: You are incorrect. It is actually a port as are the other GBA games on the 3DS (the 3DS isn't powerful enough to emulate the GBA), and it was not available on the Virtual Console. The 3DS version of the game was only made available to 3DS Ambassadors, along with nine other games. Quoted from the List of Virtual Console games for Nintendo 3DS (North America), "since these titles run natively and are not emulated, they do not support typical emulation features, such as suspended play and restore points". JOEBRO64 17:08, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
First, you cannot use another Wikipedia article as proof; in fact the quote you pointed out is not cited and therefore not verifiable. Second, do you have a source for "the 3DS isn't powerful enough to emulate the GBA"? Third, the game is still considered a Virtual Console title (it is referred to as such on the 3DS menu), despite not having a wide release or typical VC features. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 17:20, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@ThomasO1989: Here's a source that proves the GBA games are ports. The author has written for several RSes, such as 1UP, GamePro, and PlayStation: The Official Magazine. JOEBRO64 17:30, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Reading through the article, I can now agree that the GBA games are not emulated-- the downloaded GBA ROM is running using the older DS hardware. This is similar to the VC Wii games available on the Wii U eShop-- the ROMs are downloaded but are played through the simulated Wii hardware and not through emulation. However, those versions are not considered "ports" and are also not listed as Wii U releases on their articles' infobox releases. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 17:53, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wouldn't this be similar to backwards compatibility in concept then? Which is something we also don't list in infoboxes. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 18:27, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@ThomasO1989 and Dissident93: You're both right; I had completely forgotten that the DS was backwards compatible with GBA games. Re-reading the article, I think that's how we should treat it. JOEBRO64 22:14, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Shoot (Hellblazer)[edit]

On 30 January 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Shoot (Hellblazer), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the comic "Shoot", originally scheduled for publication in a 1999 issue of Hellblazer, was not published until 2010? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Shoot (Hellblazer). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Shoot (Hellblazer)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Ping TarkusAB I've seen your TFAR for 20 April, a month that I'll be scheduling. There is another article that I'd pencilled in for that date, following a date-linked request from when I previously scheduled it as a free choice. My question is, basically, how important is that date link? Is there another date that is significant? Alternatively, I could run it in April on another date if that is acceptable. Let me know Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:15, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jimfbleak: The reason I chose the date as 20 April was because it's the anniversary of Knuckles' Chaotix's original release. That being said, if it can't be run then, 21 April would work because it was released in another country that month. Alternatively we could run it in June too, because it was released in Europe that month, and it's the series it's part of's anniversary too. JOEBRO64 20:16, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As luck would have it, there is a birthday date connected article for 21st too. I'm not scheduling June, so you might want to talk to Wehwalt about that Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:03, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sonic Advance Infogrames[edit]

Why do you think the game was published by Infogrames in Europe? None of the other Sonic games released under the Sega of Europe/Infogrames distribution deal were published by them, or ANY Sega published game in general. The back cover only says "Distributed by Infogrames UK" and not "Published by Infogrames UK". So the sources you use are invalid and false. Luigitehplumber (talk) 00:17, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@LTPofficial: First, that is original research. Second, it directly contradicts what reliable sources say: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/infogrames-to-publish-sega-games-in-europe/1100-2783186/ http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/3858/sonic-advance-game-boy-advance JOEBRO64 01:11, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still confused. Sonic Advance 2 was also distributed (not published) by Infogrames, but for whatever reason Sonic Advance is "Published" by them. Luigitehplumber (talk) 11:18, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@LTPofficial: I've actually just found a source that says Infogrames published Advance 2 in Europe, too. JOEBRO64 20:03, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And what about the rest of the Sega titles they distributed like Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Mega Collection? Luigitehplumber (talk) 22:58, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@LTPofficial: It wouldn't belong in Sonic Adventure 2 because the GameCube version isn't the original version, so it isn't really covered in the infobox (besides the fact it was released). However, I did find a Eurogamer source that says Infogrames published the compilation in Europe, so I've added that to the article. JOEBRO64 23:06, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

And now the rest of the Sega titles released on the GameCube, GBA and Xbox (and I think 2 PS2 titles as well). Luigitehplumber (talk) 00:42, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

On the Sonic X-treme video you shared at FAC...[edit]

Based on the date and the gameplay... It's definitely Senn's level design; the Edge article actually has an image of Senn's Jade Gully Zone, and it's even neater in the magazine than it is on the website. My best guess on the gameplay is it's originally Alon's engine but likely after Coffin started trying to shoehorn Alon's engine and Senn's level designs into his; i.e. after the March 1996 visit from Nakayama. There's no fisheye lens, which there wasn't on Coffin's engine, and some of the level textures look more like the images from Coffin's engine, not Alon's. That's also consistent with the date on the build being July 1996. Red Phoenix talk 04:30, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Red Phoenix: Thanks! I was a bit curious because I've found a ton of videos showing prototype versions of X-treme, but was unfamiliar with what version of the engine they were using. JOEBRO64 20:10, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer granted[edit]

Hello TheJoebro64. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • URGENT: Please consider helping get the huge backlog down to a manageable number of pages as soon as possible.
  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Alex Shih (talk) 06:04, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
