This user is either Charles Lane or someone associated or paid by Chuck Lane. Every single edit is of Charles Lane's page and deletes anything the editor perceives unfavorable to Lane.Cathradgenations (talk) 10:24, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You're right: Suzuka Blue is Charles Lane. I did indeed edit this inaccurate and out of date entry. I only did so after letting mistaken, biased and unsourced information stand on the site for more than a decade, in spite of my various (sporadic) attempts to interest Wikipedia editors in correcting the entry. The most negative false claim, that Martin Peretz "fired" me from the New Republic due to my purported failure to stop Steve Glass's fraud, has no reference, which is a violation of Wikipedia policy. I'd be happy to discuss this further with you and I would appreciate if if you could disclose your identity as I have disclosed mine in the interest of transparency. Thanks! 216.164.61.233 (talk) 15:15, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The information about you and Marty Peretz and that he allegedly "fired" you is from an article cited to the Weekly Standard. The links appears to be broken because the website or publication is now defunct, but after finding it on Nexis, it appears to accurately quote and reflect what was written. Do you have another published source that reports something contrary, that perhaps can be added. Wikipedia editors are almost always anonymous. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_is_anonymous It is a violation of Wikipedia guidelines to contact an editor or another contributor outside of Wikipedia. I just read that entire Weekly Standard article and there is not a single word in it about my "firing,"let alone anything to suggest that Marty Peretz criticized my performance. The Wikipedia article doesn't just misquote it, it makes up information out of whole cloth. All of this following is totally made up: "Explaining why it took so long to catch Glass's fraud, Peretz blamed both Kelly and Lane, who had supervised and edited Glass, for not catching the fraud earlier. Lane, Peretz claimed, ignored obvious warning signs of the fabrication, and then attempted to unfairly lay the blame to his predecessor, Kelly. Peretz angrily said that Lane's alleged inaction sullied the good name of the New Republic." In fact, the Eric Alterman article which is also cited in the Wikipedia article says this: "Peretz then promoted editor Chuck Lane to replace Kelly and deal with the explosion of anger and derision caused by the exposure of Stephen Glass' defamatory lies. Peretz writes that Lane "put the ship back on its course, for which he was 'immensely grateful.'" 216.164.61.233 (talk) 22:47, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Note that this was brought up at the BLP Noticeboard,[1] and I have updated the article to reflect what stronger sources have said. Morbidthoughts (talk) 23:20, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I hope that this change will remain. I continue to be concerned about the outdated, biased, "controversies" section. 216.164.61.233 (talk) 23:25, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
