A tag has been placed on File:Downtown Cleveland Euclid Avenue.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Regarding the above files, I see at File talk:Downtown Cleveland Warehouse District.jpg you say you know the photographer personally. If you get him to change the licenses at Flickr from "BY-NC-ND" (which includes 'non-commercial' and 'no-derivative' restrictions) to "BY-SA" (or any Creative Commons license that excludes NC and ND), it will be allowed here on Wikipedia. Otherwise it will soon be deleted, thank you for understanding. Regards, Jujutacular talk 16:22, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As a first time Wikipedia user this entire experience has been EXTREMELY frustrating. Not only was it impossible to figure out how to upload a file properly, it seems no one even listens when you place a "hold on" tag, as the files were deleted _anyway_. I am not sure why people are even encouraged to make edits if they are going to not even be given benefit of the doubt about anything. Subx (talk) 17:08, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for the frustration that has been caused, but do understand that copyright is taken quite seriously, as it is a legal liability. As this is a user-generated website run by an organization that employs 27 people with hundreds (thousands?) of files uploaded every day to its servers, the potential for harm is great. If you get your friend to change the licenses on Flickr, I will restore the files myself. Simply let me know when it is done. Jujutacular talk 17:22, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
[edit conflict] Wikipedians tend to take copyright violations very seriously. Don't let that scare you away. If you can confirm that your friend is willing to release the images under an acceptable license, or you're able to document the permission, please upload the images again. If you have any questions, please let me know. - Eureka Lott 17:34, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey bud, can I recommend the help desk? They will be more than willing to help. :) Magog the Ogre (talk) 04:50, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
