Caradja[edit]

Hi. My main concern is that going into this much detail verges on the un-encyclopedic, and that info could be supplanted by a sentence reading "this branch is the only one surviving to this day" or something like that. On the other hand, it does seem like the info on who survived to this day is already covered in the text. (Note: I presume you use "actual" to mean "present-day", but the word actually means "genuine" or "real") Dahn 15:26, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay then. Go ahead and add, and I'll edit in my proposal to your text. Regards, Dahn 18:11, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Caradja? Fine. But "Jean Georges"?![edit]

Ok, I can perhaps understand why you would consider naming to the "dja" variant (though I'm pretty sure neither of the guys involved in editing those pages checked to see if the name is really preferred in English). But why on Earth would you even consider Francizing the given names? It would make sense to assign those guys their English names (per what other royals are named, and presuming it is being done in the real world), their Greek names (per what they were), or their Romanian names (since that's where they ruled). Either would be fine. But the French names? I mean, come on, are we back to experimenting? Dahn (talk) 21:35, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Might I suggest "John Caradja"? The google search tells me it was used by historians, and, in general, English names should be used when available and when multiple variants are available. I note that, for some reason, "John George Caradja" is not used, so perhaps the middle name should be dropped from the title. As we stand, "Ioan Gheorghe Caradja" is a queer combination of two languages (but it may have been used as well, I just haven't checked). Best, Dahn (talk) 13:52, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I should perhaps clarify that I only joined this debate because a lot of articles on my watchlist were edited in one go by Afil, and that the change struck me as odd. I decided to add my 2 cents only because I saw this as going nowhere: the two sides were talking past each other, and the solution was not a solution at all. Otherwise, my interest in this is relatively limited: I tend to focus on articles one at a time, and Caradja is not a priority for me. Though I would like to see the French names rendered as something else on those innumerable pages, I think this is a rather tedious job, and not an emergency - the redirect pages, once you untie the knots Afil has placed them in, should do fine (in theory, this could also mean that there is no emergency of changing references to "Ioan Gheorghe Caragea" on other pages, as they would redirect back to the proper articles). Either way, I urge you guys to work out a compromise. If my points serve to work out that compromise, I couldn't be anything other than glad. But please take more times considering the moves in the future, because they may negatively affect a whole series of articles, lead to errors, and give other editors a lot of pointless and laborious edits to complete. Cheers, Dahn (talk) 16:32, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
