Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. Yul Bryner

Hi. I see that you have made several revisions to our Yul Bryner article - most notably, removing material that stated that he was partly Jewish. Since this seems to have been based on cited material, can I ask on what basis you made these changes? What the citation in fact incorrect? Did you check the cited material? Clearly, if someone has been misrepresenting sources, this needs further investigation. AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:29, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello Andy, I have been reading alot of material in russian and there is no trace of such information to support the facts. I then wrote to Yuls son, which I got the following reply: "No, the Bryners were not Jewish. Only Marusia's grandfather was partially Jewish, a doctor who converted to the Orthodox church. But none of the women in the family were Jewish, and therefore their descendants do not qualify, according to Jewish faith." Mind you, my relatives were friends with Yuls sister Vera, and there was no mention of this ever. Yul "never" stated of any relationship to being jewish, never, not in one interview, however, he did state that he was of "russian descent". When I wiki'd him up, there were 10 statements regarding him being jewish, as if to state he was only jewish. Don't get me wrong, but the message was being perceived incorrectly. I suggest that you read Wikipedia:No original research. We base article content on published sources, not on unpublished personal communications, and on what people's relatives tell them. The source for the 'Jewish' material was apparently Rock Bryner's book, which seems odd in the light of what you are saying. It may well be that we were placing undue weight on Bryner's Jewish ancestry in the article (this wouldn't be unusual - some contributors seem obsessed by tagging individuals by ethnicity), but it needs discussion, based on sources we can use, rather than simple deletion of material because you think it is wrong. I'll see if I can get hold of a copy of Rock Bryner's book, and see what it actually says. AndyTheGrump (talk) 21:04, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Categories

You have been adding quite a few categories to articles, but many of them are redundant and have been removed. For instance, we don't need to add Category:People of Russian descent to an article when the article is already in a subcategory, such as Category:American people of Russian descent or Category:Russian emigrants to the United States. Also, you've been adding Category:White Russian emigrants or Category:Imperial Russian Orthodox Christians to some articles for people who were born in the United States in the 1950s, which doesn't make sense. I understood you concerning category people of russian descent. It existed, I was just adding on. As for Category White Russian, it does NOT necessarily mean the person was born in Russia. And yes there is proof to each added category. If I did add 1 name by accidentally to someone that was born in 1950 with Imperial ROC, that couldve been a mistake, I would like to see where I did that. Thanks for the heads up.
