File source problem with File:Schlieren_imaging_setup.GIF[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Schlieren_imaging_setup.GIF. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:58, 24 December 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 22:58, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Talkback[edit]

Schieren imaging[edit]

Thanks for your message Shmuel. This encyclopaedia is a collaborative effort, so articles don't have individual's signatures on them. The Wikipedia software automatically keeps track of who made what changes to articles and when – it's all visible on the history tab. It's only necessary to sign your name on talk pages, to help participants identify who's talking when you make comments. Colonies Chris (talk) 09:48, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Optimisation of the listening room: The Brodule[edit]

Hello Shmuel,

I have read the page on diffusion (acoustics).

If you are interested in the subject, please have a look at my blog:

http://brodule.blogspot.com

If you have some colleagues who are interested, please also direct them to my blog.

I would be very happy that someone from the scientific community tests the Brodule and studies its properties.

Kind regards,

account woes[edit]

i edited the article about "Rayleigh Plesset equation" by adding 2 graphs. i noticed that from the field "Author" below the picture there is a link that should redirect you to my user page, if you click on it. But, it does nor work. It takes you to a blank page and ask you open a new user. however from the history of that page the links to my page works fine... now I know that i have 2 user names that in the past i asked to union into one. it is something like user:Shmuel Benezra and user:Shmuel Ben-Ezra (i think i prefer the latter form) Shmuel Benezra (talk) 20:49, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shmuel Benezra, there are two different possibly confusing things in play that are actually unrelated. The first is your two usernames. Back in 2009 you requested a user name change from user:Shmuel Benezra to user:Shmuel Ben-Ezra. I'll check what exactly happened there in a moment, but that is actually completely unrelated to what you are experiencing now. What is happening is that WikiMedia runs a couple of different related websites (which we call "projects"). Each language Wikipedia for example is its own project, and you have a distinct user page under the same username on each of those projects (though you have a unified login that logs you in in any of the sister sites transparently). The image you uploaded is on the shared media repository called WikiMedia Commons, and commons too is - you guessed it - a different project, so you have a different user page there. There are a couple of things people often do with them, and you're completely free to choose what you like best:
  • You can keep it empty as it is now
  • You can keep them as completely separate pages and keep them for the things you do on that project (though connecting them is trivial).
  • You can set up a quick page that makes a WP:SOFTREDIRECT to this user page, saying that this (or any other project) is your primary userpage, and you prefer communicating through here
They are really seperate websites, and only the login is shared, so there is no system in place (yet?) that can unify userpages automatically (also because there are people who prefer the second option I mentioned. This is especially useful for different language projects. Anyway, feel free to choose whichever option that suits you best. I'll check if the name change went well next, and let you know, but it does look everything is alright. Cheers, Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 21:59, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So, the name change. That didn't go as well as I thought it did. I'm still checking what happened exactly:
  • 9 December 2009: The user Shmuel Benezra is (first) created. There is no "hard" trace of that anymore (but the creation log is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Log/Shmuel_Benezra where it shows Smuel Ben-Ezra (as a result of your later name change)
  • 30 December 2009 00:40 - you requested a change in username at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Changing_username/Simple&diff=prev&oldid=334802698
  • 30 December 2009 16:57 - your request has gone through, and your username should have been changed (across all projects). Possibly your account wasn't renamed properly over all projects (the same projcts as I mentioned above), possibly it did. I can't see for sure at this point without setting up a big search across different projects.
  • 30 December 2009 23:55 - the user Shmuel Benezra is re-created automatically. This means that you were at the time logged in to that account on a different project, and navigated to en.wikipedia.org. The system noticed that the username didn't exist (anymore, because it was renamed) and automatically (re-)created the account. That is the account you are using now.
I understand you prefer to use the name Shmuel Ben-Ezra. I'll advice you on what is the best way to get that fixed in a moment, I'll have to check your contributions over different projects. In the mean time, could you check if you still have access to the user name Shmuel Ben-Ezra? Cheers, Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 22:24, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

thanks a lot Martijn, I appreciate your effort! yes I prefer to have only one user - Shmuel Ben-Ezra yes I have an access to User:Shmuel Ben-Ezra, the url is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Shmuel_Ben-Ezra however, strangely the icon on the top of the page (with the yellow head guy in blue jacket...) shows Shmuel Benezra although the title says User:Shmuel Ben-Ezra... interesting - when I try to get into the 'Benezra' user page I am redirected to the same user page (Ben-Ezra) about the WP:SOFTREDIRECT issue - I want to have a single page; how do I make it? should I open a new user page in wikimedia commons and there to insert the WP:SOFTREDIRECT text? thanks again. Shmuel Benezra (talk) 09:20, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)After looking in to this for a bit, and thinking about it, I have no idea what happened. But lets focus on what should be done. To start with the bad news: accounts can't be merged, so the contributions of your old account and new account can't be put under a single account. The easiest fix assumes you still have access to the account Shmuel Ben-Ezra. If you do, the fix is simple: abandon the benezra account, and continue using this one. That user page and user-talk is alreadythough I'll just be making an edit there to ping you, but that's reverted easily redirected to here. If you don't, and can't retrieve access to it (you can reset your password if you have set an email address you still have access to), this account will need to be moved to something like "Shmuel Ben-Ezra (old)", and then Shmuel Benezra needs to be moved to this account again. If that is the case, you'll have to request it at WP:USURP. If you you're not sure what to fill out where, just refer to this page. I'm not sure everything is possible, but they'll work with you to make the transition as best as possible. Best, Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 10:03, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The latter, yes, just create the page on commons, but better hold on a moment for the namechange. The former: to the software your userpage is "just another page", that you go here when you follow the link to your userpage is because it is redirected. You are really logged in as Shmuel Benezra. (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&target=Shmuel_Benezra ). To check if you have access, you should log out of this account, and try to log in to the other. how do i redirect from wikimedia commons to my user page in wikipedia? i tried:

  1. REDIRECT User:Shmuel Ben-Ezra

but all it did is to open another new page in wikimedia...Shmuel Benezra (talk) 13:44, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What you should type is [[:en:User:Shmuel Ben-Ezra]]. The "en" makes the link go to the English Wikipedia. JohnCD (talk) 14:23, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
