AIV helperbot[edit]

I went to HighInBC's page to advise him that his bot seemed to be taking a short wikibreak, and I see you beat me there. :) I have to add that it's a lot more work keeping that page clear when we have to remove the blocked vandals manually; it saves us a huge amount of time and duplicate effort, even though it only works 99% of the time rather than 100%. As you'll notice when you become an admin in due course! Regards, Newyorkbrad 01:59, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seem like best things on Wikipedia right now are the AIV helperbot and WP:TWINKLE. I would add AntiVandalBot bot it hasn't been reverting vandalism for 15 days. --TeckWizTalk Contribs@ 02:03, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think the best things on Wikipedia right now (or any time) are the great people who help in all kinds of different ways, whether by reverting vandalism or writing the encyclopedia. But the bots and scripts are great too. Regards, Newyorkbrad 02:08, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I meant the best automated and/or time-saving things :) --TeckWizTalk Contribs@ 02:31, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks ...[edit]

... for your comment on my nominee ... but I fell to fourth place last week. Daniel.Bryant wound up with 233 supports on his RfA, zipping right by me. The amazing thing is that Sarah Ewart nominated both Daniel and me ... imagine how popular she's going to be with candidates now! :) Regards, Newyorkbrad 01:39, 3 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

How to get the bot running[edit]

I will e-mail you the username and password files that the bot uses. It will use a random password, I see no need of changing it. To stop the bot, you open the window it is running on and hit ctrl-c. If you do not have access to the computer it is on, then there is only blocking, or shutting down all bots with the parameter line. I may add options to the parameter line to disable individual bots.

Once you have the username and password files, follow the instructions here: User:HBC_AIV_helperbot/installation and let me know if you have any trouble. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 01:39, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Either version should do, the msi is probably the easier to install. I will clarify point ten, but it refers to double clicking on the perl scripts icon to run it. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 01:40, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The folder described in point 4 can go anywhere that is convenient to you. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 01:43, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, you can skip the step about setting the time format in the preferences, I already did that for your account. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 01:47, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AIV bot breaking a list[edit]

I have a short list (that might well expand) of vandals to a single article, with the previous blocks and warnings shown in the listing. The bot is seeing these and removing the explanation from the list, leaving meaningless entries with no explanation. Chris cheese whine 10:22, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please show me the diff so I can understand what you mean. --TeckWizParlateContribs@ 13:45, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[1] Chris cheese whine 14:11, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Chris, that is not so much a bug but the program doing as it should. You can either post each vandal as it's own report, post them all on the same line, or you can temporarily turn the bot off in the parameter string at the top of the page by changing RemoveBlocked=On to RemoveBlocked=Off, just change it back when you are done. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 15:14, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Small bug in bot[edit]

This edit[2] is caused by a small typo. I have fixed the code, could you please replace the script with the new content of new contents of User:HBC AIV helperbot/source. That should clear up the problem. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 15:05, 4 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Quorcirca Ltd[edit]

Hello, I dont know much about you, but your name suggests you are a TeckWiz. Anyway, I see you are a well-established user, so mabye you could have a look at this page here. It has obviously written by an amature and needs some serious work doing to it. Im going to start to try and fix it, but mabye you could give me some tips along the way to help me improve it. Hope to hear from you soon. ~ JFBurton 20:32, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The page is spam, and will be deleted as such soon. Also, you don't need to link Wikipedia pages as external links. You can just type it like this:

[[Quocirca Ltd]]
which produces:Quocirca Ltd. And though I'm experienced, I'm not that good of a writer. I usually do other stuff here like vandal patrol, xFD and RFA. --TeckWizParlateContribs@ 20:38, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh well, It is obviously advertising, but I have changed it, perhaps take a look at it now, i've deleted most of the nonsense. I will add some external links in a minute. JFBurton 20:44, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HBC AIV helperbot Operator Userbox[edit]

I made a little template for the three bot operators in my spare time. If you want to use it, simply link {{User:Extranet/HBC_AIV_OperatorBox}} to your userpage or another location where you think it would be suitable. The only thing it does is adds you to the Bot Owners category. If you don't really want to use it, thats fine ;P --Extranet (Talk | Contribs) 06:53, 5 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

My RFA[edit]

Thank You,
R~enwiki/Archive/2007/Feb for your Support!
Thank you for your support in my RfA, which closed at 111 / 1 / 2. I am humbled and rather shocked to see such kind comments and for it to reach WP:100. Please feel free to leave a note if I have made a mistake or if you need anything, I will start out slow and tackle the harder work once I get accustomed to the tools. Thank you once more, I simply cannot express in words my gratitude.

Bot update[edit]

I have fixed a small bug, and added a new feature to the bot[3]. Please replace your script with the new source: User:HBC AIV helperbot/source. Your bot will not work until it is updated. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 17:37, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's great! I was wondering why it wasn't working! What is the new feature? --TeckWizParlateContribs@ 20:28, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survivor 16[edit]

FYI, Wikipedia: Criteria for speedy deletion says: ""Wikipedia is not a dictionary", "Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information" and "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball" are not part of the speedy deletion criteria. my talk page[edit]

Why is it considered vandalism when I blank my own user talk page? It only says on the vandalism page that "its looked down upon" this doesn't mean I've vandalized anything. --209.137.175.59 23:13, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings should not be removed from you userpage right away. Please wait about a week. --TeckWizParlateContribs@ 23:15, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AFD comment[edit]

First off congrats on your adminship!... now we have at least two admins to maintain TAR articles....

On that note, could you comment on this AFD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Amazing Race 5 contestants . The article creator has some notion that a page listing generally non-notable TAR contestants does not fail WP:BIO or WP:NOT. If the contestants have some notable pre or post race accomplishments (like Nicole or Christie), then they deserve their own biographical article. Otherwise, simply grouping this many non-notable individuals is a silly way to work around existing WP policies. --Madchester 22:38, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My bad... you just got one of those replies thanking a successful RFA... lol --Madchester 22:45, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Signature[edit]

Hi TeckWiz. I could've sworn I've asked you this before - in fact, it seems I have. Could you add a space in your signature so it stops stretching the edit window? Picaroon 21:47, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. That's why I had a space in my sig that made part of it look spaced too much :) I saw that a little while ago, wondered why it was there, couldn't remember why, and removed it. I've now put in a space that doesn't make it look bad. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 21:52, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Maybe modify your js so a note pops up whenever you go to preferences? :D Picaroon 22:01, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't seem to understand. What would a note telling me that a changed my preferences do? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 22:11, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think he's teasing and means a commented note saying "don't take the space out of your signature or you'll get scolded again." :) Newyorkbrad 22:14, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. :) --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 22:16, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clarinet Userboxes[edit]

Hello. I was reading your userpage when I noticed that you had two userboxes saying that you play the clarinet. Just wondering if that was intentional or not. Captain panda In vino veritas 03:51, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure? I see a clarinet one and a musician one. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 11:41, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Adoption[edit]

Hello! I'm really quite new at this so I thought it might be a good Idea to get adopted. If you look at my page you can tell. I'm not even sure how to do an internal link to my page....wow.... *sighs* But yeah! And, oh yeah, I'm a freshman in high school and math happens to be my favorite subject too, plus I'm in CSt. Just a little about me that I can think of right now.

I might not be around for about...three days but I should be back on Thursday. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jon1992 (talkcontribs) 23:31, 26 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Re your message[edit]

I find it fascinating that an editor who has repeatedly disrupted Wikipedia and admitted to editing Wikipedia in such a way as to "bait" another editor doesn't seem worthy of your attention. Interesting double standard you have going. Saying something gets jumped on within seconds but an editor's repeated and bragged about misconduct goes without comment. Nice to see what the priorities are here. Otto4711 01:49, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please keep cool. Once again, the last sentence of your comment was an attack. It's not my problem with Scorpian. I checked the template talk and both your talk pages. I didn't see that much negotiation. And, as Scorpian said on your talk, a personal attack is worse than bating. Also, I see how you removed your comment without an edit summary. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 02:01, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help, I think Otto is reporting me for something now, so soon enough, this will either get very humourous or very annoying. -- Scorpion 02:08, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I was looking for someone to adopt me that knew a lot about AFD and such. I've pretty much pinned myself into just browsing recent changes but I want to really get into wikipedia a bit more, but I can't really understand it. So if you could adopt me, that'd be great.
