Wikilinking[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:

 • dates
 • years
 • commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
 • common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).

This even applies for infoboxes, too.

Thanks and my best wishes.

Two things[edit]

1) "Himself" or "herself" is not a proper noun, and therefore should not be automatically capitalized. 2) When listing guest stars on an article that has Infobox television episode, each person should be separated with Plainlist or with asteriks by each guest star, not by using the <br /> code. You have undid my corrections to a couple of Family Guy episodes a few times over the last couple days, and I'd appreciate it if you stopped - or at least gave an explanation for why you keep doing this. Expand the freaking section on the heroes. There is no possible way that the villains and their monsters of the week get more characterization than the five main characters. I swear to god if you and other editors keep filling the villain section with unnecessary plot summary I'm just going to send the whole article to AFD so we can start on it from scratch.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 06:21, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Linking to redirects[edit]

It is perfectly OK to link to redirects (such as Amphibion (comics) and Dark-Crawler) if they link to a heading on another page, such as a list page. If you click on such a link to a redirect, you will be taken to that heading just as if you had linked directly to the heading. Also, if the article is ever restored, all the links will point to the article instead of a list entry. 129.33.19.254 (talk) 23:19, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware of that, but I'm just letting you know that it's OK to still link to the redirects, and you don't have to change all the links to point at the list pages because the redirects already point to the lists. 129.33.19.254 (talk) 00:13, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Muppets Most Wanted-related[edit]

Rtkat3, you're generally a responsible editor. I know you know WP:FILMPLOT, so I'm at a loss to understand why you'd so blatantly violate it. Please don't. --Tenebrae (talk) 01:56, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate what you're saying, and while no Wikipedia movie plot can get every detail in, Muppet Most Wanted is at 666 words, so you do have a 34-word margin to add (or subtract) details. As for the other stuff about a cast member who didn't have lines or something, I don't know anything about that. Please take heed of this policy/guideline. Don't link to common English words and only link to pages that are contextually relevant. For these reasons, I have reverted your edits to the Attack on Titan pages. There is no need to link to pages like pastor or merchant and Titan (mythology) has no relevance to the work of fiction. The "Titans" in Attack on Titan have nothing to do with the Greco-Roman deities.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 17:52, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. I thought there would be links for those in case first-time visitors of this website didn't know what the words in question are. How else can we link Titan in Attack on Titan anyway? Link them to Giant? --Rtkat3 (talk) 17:57, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We take for granted that people know common English words like "soldier" and "merchant". Giant (mythology) might be a good page, but not formatting it as Titans.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 18:09, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway, apart from the change of "superweapon" to "super-weapon", which I'm about to restore, the edit added a lot of not-necessarily-true information. Further, "starring the voices" is a nonsense phrase. It should either be "featuring the voices" or "starring", not both. Thank you, and sorry for the mess up! Wikilinking[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia.

I noticed an article you worked on. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:

 • dates
 • years
 • commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
 • common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).

This applies to infoboxes, too.

Thanks, and my best wishes.

Hi, Rtkat3. Regarding your edits to Tiger Shark (Marvel Comics), there a few things you should be made aware of:

 • The Lead section of an article is supposed to be a summary of the article's most salient information. That means that it necessary repeats the most important information in it. Thus, you should not move something like a character's creators or first appearance from the Lead to a section further down. If a section in the article merits mention of that info, that's fine, but that doesn't mean you remove it from the Lead. You were correct in thinking that its creators and first appearance should be mentioned in the PH section, but not at the expense of mention in the Lead.
 • Editors on Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics have had discussions on this topic before, and what has been decided is that articles on characters should emphasize their Publication history, and not their Fictional character biography. One of the reasons for this is that according to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction, specifically The problem with in-universe perspective, makes it clear that material should be presented primarily in an out-universe perspective, and not an in-universe perspective, since Wikipedia, as an encyclopedia, should emphasize the real-world perspective and impact of that work of fiction. To see an example of how these two sections are properly presented in a good article, see Spider-Man, which is a Good Article. You'll notice the Publication History section is both first and larger than the Fictional character biography section. For better examples, see the Superman article, which is a Featured Article, and features the PH emphasized in favor of the FCB. Ditto for the Batman article (though that last part of the FCB could admittedly use a trim). For this reason, your shifting the headings from PH emphasis to FCB emphasis was reverted.
 • Bullets are to separate multiple items. One item does not merit a bullet, contrary to your placement of one in the Other characters named Tiger Shark section.
 • Also, such sections are usually named "Alternate versions". You could just have placed the other Tiger Shark in that section. I've done that for you.

Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 23:37, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 • There are different Tiger Sharks. That's why we have the Alternate versions sections. Also, WP:SECTIONHEAD indicates that we should avoid using the title of the article in headings, whenever possible.
 • The mere debut and creators of a character hardly provides enough material to fill an entire section.
 • If there's only one item, you don't use a bullet. If future media appearances occur, then bullets can be used, if appropriate. Nightscream (talk) 00:03, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Rtkat3, For your information Fox Animation Domination High-Definition has been officially cancelled from its over-the-air platform and will cease at the end of this June. Further High School USA! Axe Cop, etc... are no longer in production per Nick Weiderfeld the head of FOX ADHD and various show producers including Dino Stamatopoulos etc... that their shows are out of production so putting the last show of the series as the final broadcast in the InfoBoxes is appropriate in this case. Article layout[edit]

Please stop moving the cast section at The 7D to after the episode section, as you have been doing. [1][2] Twice now I've moved the cast to the correct location with "layout per MOS:TV in the edit summary,[3][4] but you don't seem to be getting the message. MOS:TV recommends the following layout:
Lead paragraphs
Plot section
Character listing
Background/production
Cast information
Crew
Themes
Broadcast
Note the position of the bolded headings relevant to each other. Normally, "character listing" and "cast information" are combined. --AussieLegend () 06:23, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see that I've mentioned this to you previously.[5] --AussieLegend () 18:58, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The 7D[edit]

It was only just yesterday that I went to great pains to combine the cast and characters sections at The 7D, fixing a number of problems including, but not limited to:[6]

 • removing MOS:BOLD violations
 • converting bullet point type character descriptions into prose - Prose is preferred by the MOS.
 • removing redundancy - we don't need "is a member of the 7D" in every description in a section that deals exclusively with the 7D and is actually titled "The 7D"
 • removing overlinking - common terms like "spider" should not be wikilinked.
 • removing unnecessary blank lines that bloat the article and do not aid in formatting.

However, with this edit, not only did you restore all of these errors, but even deleted the clarify tag that I added, without bothering to resolve the identified problem. As somebody with nearly 78,000 edits, you should know better than to do this. --AussieLegend () 18:52, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

For the part with Dopey, he just makes various sounds since he doesn't speak. The parenthesis was placed around the "voiced by [insert voice actor here]" is because every other show that has pages on this website does it. Some episodes that recently aired had a TBA added to it because nobody who has watched the show has added the plot to those episodes yet. The 7D membership was to spice up their bios just like how I mentioned the fact about Grim Gloom. The Crystal Ball and Magic Mirror should be in the heading called "recurring characters" so that there would be any other characters not in either category listed to appear there. I can't remember anything else, but did I leave anything out of this discussion? --Rtkat3 (talk) 19:07, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved your post on my talk page here to keep the discussion all in one place. Parentheses are usually placed around actors' names when there is no other text, such as in "Rooster Cogburn (John Wayne) -Cogburn is the lead character". They aren't needed when part of a sentence. Episode list is specifically designed so that the episode summary will roll up when there is no summary. Adding "TBA" just results in a pointless line. The correct procedure would have been to remove any existing "TBA", not to add more. Note that we do sometimes use "TBA" in other cells, just not |ShortSummary=. We don't "spice up" bios. This is not a fan site, it's an encyclopaedia and we try to treat everything encyclopaedically, which includes not including redundant content. I agree that the Crystal Ball and Magic Mirror should be in the "recurring" section; I was the one who created that section when I combined the cast and characters sections.[7] --AussieLegend () 05:21, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I know you've been warned about this many times, but please do try to keep plot details down to a minimum. Thank you for your editing of Platypus. However, I should comment that I have changed back from the American spelling of 'behavior' to the Australian spelling of 'behaviour'. Subsections and lists[edit]

Rtkat3, please do not add arbitrary subsection headings or bullets to articles, as you did with this edit to Yondu. Subsections are for dividing sections that have grown too large. You cannot divide a section into only one subsection. Similarly, bullets are for short form lists, not full, prose paragraphs, let alone single full prose paragraphs. Thanks. :-) Nightscream (talk) 13:25, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Line breaks and lists[edit]

Hi Arthur, please don't add line breaks between list items, as you did at Snow-White and Rose-Red. They make it more difficult to read articles for screen reader users like myself; please see the relevant section of the accessibility guideline for more details. Graham87 02:05, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't referring to the dashes; I was referring to the line breaks – or newlines – that you added between the list items. See the part after the "Other versions" heading in the diff of your edit. Graham87 02:11, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, you added some newlines just before the "*"'s that produce the bullet points that indicate the start of a list item. I re-removed them again in this edit. Graham87 02:17, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, I'm not, and never space them like that again, because it's against accessibility guidelines. Graham87 02:21, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop including unnecessary wikilinks.[edit]

Hey there, I've previously tried reasoning with you in public over this matter, particularly at the various Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 articles. I'm not sure if you are merely reticent to change, or unable to understand the rationale, or whatever, but I'm going to try one last time to explain WP:OVERLINK to you here. Wikilinks should not be added for common words understood in context, like "cloud" or "waitress" or "ducks" or "geese" or "robot" or "police officer". These are words we learn as children, and it is presumed that by the time we are old enough to read and process printed words in an encyclopedia, we know what a duck is. Please save the wikilinks for concepts that may not be common knowledge, like "cybernetics" or other big-boy words. And, since you seem to be confused about the issue as is evident in the diff above, even if we did need a wikilink for "duck", we certainly wouldn't need three of them as you submitted. That too is covered by WP:OVERLINK, which I must urge you to read. Continuing to indiscriminately add wikilinks is disruptive, because it either requires editors to pick through your contribution to fix your mistakes, or to revert your contribution entirely. Additionally, since there is no edit summary to explain your changes, it is unclear to me why you changed J. G. Quintel to J.G. Quintel. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Abbreviations#Initials instructs that initials should be followed by a period and a space, so you would need a specific rationale to do it differently. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:29, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are mistaking my comments. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be adding unnecessary wikilinks to articles that are on my watchlist--this isn't a territory thing--I'm saying that you shouldn't be adding unnecessary wikilinks to any articles. That's why it is a Manual of Style guideline. I'm a little surprised that you are confused by this. The remainder of your response is confusing to me, so I don't even know how to address it. "J. G. Quintel" should be presented exactly that way unless there is some evidence that he has stylized his name differently, the way JB Smoove has, or CCH Pounder has. George H. W. Bush should not be changed to George H.W. Bush simply because you see other misinformed people doing so. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:00, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Original Sin[edit]

I only made my edits to the Original Sin article (a storyline that I initially did not have any intention of reading, mind you) because people like you do not know how to write a proper summary worth a damn. If you would only learn how to summarize salient information only, with adherence to WP:PLOTPRESENT, proper paragraph sentence structure, grammar, paragraph breaks, citations with full publication info, etc., instead of adding poorly written, unbroken 1,581-word paragraphs, then my stepping in to clean up your messes wouldn't be necessary. Nightscream (talk) 19:54, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you remove the abbreviations from the article under the inaccurate edit summary "Adding details to plot"? You didn't add details, you added redundant wording and trivia. You don't have to give a character's full name or an write out a three-word term every time you reference it in a plot. How is it that you don't know this? Nightscream (talk) 03:39, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Whether it's "needed" is debatable, but abbreviations of such terms are certainly useful. Nightscream (talk) 20:53, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rtkak3, I'd like to talk to you about the section you added to this article. I have no problem with adding the link, but I think it's a better idea if it were put in the "See also" section. It's not customary to create a new section with just a linked article. The other reason I'd like to see it moved is that the article isn't representative of the show's history. The oldest listed segment is from the 90s. I'm inclined to move/remove it, but I thought I'd be polite and ask first. ;) Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 20:06, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Excessive details in articles AGAIN[edit]

Please stop adding excessive details to articles, as you did with this edit to Mockingbird (Marvel Comics). I and others have had to talk to you about this dozens of times over the course of the past few years, and yet you persist in doing this, even though it often requires us to trim your detail bloat to reasonable summaries. Can you please stop doing this? Thank you. Nightscream (talk) 02:06, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You did "just modify" the passage, you once again added a large paragraph of irrelevant trivia, specifying idiotic things like whether this scene or that scene took place in a bathroom, or that scene took place on the roof, unncessary references to Raina, Kenneth Turgeon, specific lines of dialogue, etc. Look at the other things listed in that section. Don't you understand that descriptions of other media appearances are supposed to be SUMMARIZED or CAPSULIZED descriptions of those things. Basic details. Anything that is not essential for a reader to understand the basic gist of that incarnation of the character doesn't go in there. None of the other items sport that level of detail, so why should this one? That is not good article writing, that's you shoving a mountainload of tangential crap into a section without any regard for incorporating it seamlessly into what is already there.
We've had this discussion before, and yet you keep on asking me where you're supposed to put that info. I DO NOT CARE where you put it! Wikipedia is not the Marvel Wiki, and what goes on at that wiki has nothing to do with us. Some level of detail is appropriate for the SHIELD Season 2 article, and more if that episode gets its own article. But not in an Other versions list in a character article. If you don't know to write a proper summary that includes the salient info only, then simply put, you have no business writing such sections. Nightscream (talk) 02:25, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Raft[edit]

The Raft (comics) already redirects to the section List of correctional facilities in comics#The Raft, so you do not have to replace it. It is not necessary to replace a redirect that points to a section header with a direct link to that header, if the redirect is already functioning perfectly fine. Agrius and Oreius[edit]

I believe you were the author of the Agrius and Oreius article and so I thought it polite to inform you that I am suggesting it be deleted. More accurately I am suggesting it be merged into the Polyphonte article and feel that the easiest way of achieving this would be to simply delete Argrius and Oreius and redirect searches to the Polyphonte page. A request for help[edit]

We spoke recently regarding the fate of you article on Agrius and Oreius. During our discussion you suggested I open an articles for deletion page. I have attempted to do so and seem to have managed - Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Agrius and Oreius. Unfortunately though I have been unable to add this to the log successfully. Indeed I seem to have made a bit of a mess of the Our Lady's Primary School section. I know its slighty unfair to ask a page's creator to help list a discussion about its deletion however I couldn't think who else to ask. If you could find the time to have a look at the log here - 8 - and suggest how to fix my error I would be really grateful. I wouldn't like to think I had mucked something up on only my second day of editing! Nyctimene (talk) 19:22, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies for wasting you time - another kind user has already fixed the problem. Feel free to delete all this if you wish. Nyctimene (talk) 19:28, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate edit[edit]

Rtkat3, I genuinely do not understand how someone with your experience editing can continue to make bizarre edits like these: [9][10][11][12]. In the first two edits, you removed content that appears to be sourced. In the third edit, you changed the name of the actor with the speculative explanation, "Silver Surfer sounded more like Dwight Schultz", then restored the same content in the fourth edit without addressing the speculative nature of your original change. If you have a source that contradicts the current information, you need to provide it, not replace it with speculation. I'm not sure if you think you're immune from ANI, but you have a documentable history of editing against community standards and norms, and of slow edit-warring. I would recommend you consider changing these behaviors lest you have to explain to admins why someone with 80,000 edits is still adding original research to articles. Sesame Street list[edit]

Hi Rtkat3, continuing the trend I'm seeing above on this talk page, I need to talk to you about your edits to List of human Sesame Street characters. It seems that you have added excessive detail. Hmm, you've also overlinked. I'm reverting your changes. This list is featured, and your edits are putting its status as a FL in jeopardy. I believe that your past edits, conducted after it passed as a FL, is the reason the tag was put on it. Please don't add any information that can't be supported by sources. If you can find any source that supports the statements you've added. please feel free to add them back. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 03:49, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a little surprised that your response on my talk page seems to be written by a new editor. I would think that you'd know this stuff by now. But anyway, if you're going to use information gained from specific episodes, you need to include a full source, like this list already does with some of the episodes on the Old School DVDs. As the WP:YT policy states: There is no blanket ban on linking to YouTube or other user-submitted video sites, as long as the links abide by the guidelines on this page (see Restrictions on linking and Links normally to be avoided). Many videos hosted on YouTube or similar sites do not meet the standards for inclusion in External links sections, and copyright is of particular concern. Many YouTube videos of newscasts, shows or other content of interest to Wikipedia visitors are copyright violations and should not be linked. Links should be evaluated for inclusion with due care on a case-by-case basis. Links to online videos should also identify additional software necessary for readers to view the content. It's also not appropriate to include information based upon your memory of episodes, unless they can be supported by sources. Again, please do not add information to this list without supporting it with reliable sources. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 15:09, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Legends of Chima[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to Legends of Chima, but we cannot accept original research. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, and ideas—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Dcbanners (talk) 12:34, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your revert of Gotham episodic wikilinking.[edit]

Your revert has been undone. We cannot wikilink the portrayal of Sionis to Black Mask without a RS making that connection. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 04:02, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Legends of Chima-discussion 2[edit]

If you are going to add character and episode descriptions, at least write it in an encyclopedic tone. Per WP:TVFAQ, "exclamations, rhetorical questions and other promotional-style writing" should be avoided. Your summaries also appear to be copied and pasted from various fan sites. The information is fine, it just needs proper tone and to be in your own words. Dcbanners (talk) 23:45, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
