Dear Astrokey44, I wish to ban Danko Georgiev from Wikipedia for his repeated accusations of Fraud to me regarding my experiment [1] on the talk pages. My experimental results were verified by faculty from Harvard and other schools. I will not allow this idiot to ruin my reputation. He must be repudiated by the Wikipedia community. Astrokey44, As you can see, the legitimate scientific debate in the form of papers etc. have been sited properly on the page. However, Danko (who is NOT a physicist) has turned a scientific debate to personal attacks after every physicist he interacted with dismissed him outright. Afshar experiment[edit]

Dear Astrokey44, I did not name the article. As you may know, It is a tradition in science to name experiments and phenomena after their originators, see e.g. Faraday_effect. These results that often entail a life-time of hard and focused research are akin to one's children, thus the naming, and the zeal of the scientists to defend them. Megabyte[edit]

We had about ten articles all relating to bytes, the only difference being that they were talking of different quantities. It was becoming an administrative burden to keep them all up to date, with much duplication of effort being afforded. Mega, Kilo, etc are prefixs, and perhaps deserve their own article, but we don't do the same for volts, ohms, fahrads, etc, so why should we do it for bytes and bits? --Rebroad 13:29, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I did check to see if anything was being deleted. The only things I noticed that might be interesting were in the Petabyte article where it gives some examples of large amounts of data measured in petabytes. The thing about this is that this information will soon become irrelevant as computers continue to use larger amounts of data, so I wasn't sure if it was worth merging into the Byte article. Just a heads-up: I've nominated Suzi9mm for deletion. I see on your user page that you are opposed to the notability criteria, so you'll probably want to argue to keep it. Now, this doesn't belong on the AfD page, but I want to explain why I'm nominating it now: I found Ghouldaddy on New Pages patrol, and that article doesn't assert any kind of notability at all; I'm guessing that it was created with the rationale that if Suzi9mm and friends have pages, so should he. Nuclear map[edit]

Hi! I saw that you had created the nuclear test map. It's tough, of course, to get something with that much detail on it in a way which is easy to look at and pleasurable to the eye. I found a pretty neat map out there which might serve as a sort of inspiration/model if you were interesting in working on the nuclear map again. Just thought I'd send it your way, in case you were interested. The link is here. In case that link dies on you (I see it has some sort of session id in it), it is the graphic next to the section titled "Historical background" in this article. Those mushroom cloud icons are great for quick visual perception and pedogical for association of the mind, but the map projection used is really deplorable. I personally prefer the current nuclear test map, since it conveys the info it's supposed to: location of sites and relative number of tests. Map Request - Chew Valley[edit]

Back in February you kindly made a map for Chew Valley Lake which has now achieved Featured Article Status - now I'm trying to work on articles for the surrounding area - The key one being Chew Valley as you can see from the discussion page I've been debating the specific area which should be covered i.e. the geographers catchment area or the common usage. It would be really useful if a map could be done which includes the villages, lakes etc in the common usage area but somehow (perhaps shading) shows the proper valley. Thanks for your response on my talk page but the map you link to is the wrong chew valley - the one I'm talking about is in Somerset not Manchester/Lancs. The OS ref for the centre of the valley is about ST 625 643 but you need to zoom out to roughly 1:250,000 to see the whole of the valley - see Chew Valley and it's talk page for description and a discussion of the exact limits. I'm not familiar with nasa's world wind - but have done a map on wayfarer (primarily showing the pubs) see Chew Valley pubs and landmarks. Hope this makes sense Rod 13:49, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The new U.S. Census Race Map is flawed[edit]

The official Pacific Islander Race definition states "The term 'Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander' refers to peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands...They are of Polynesian, Micronesian, and Melanesian cultural backgrounds."2000 US Census from the PDF. Google "Pacific Islander PDF" to see for yourself what the official US Census says. Austrailia is not part of the Polynesian, Micronesian or Melanesian cultural regions. Thanks for creating the map, Astro. I would actually prefer a visually clearer map (i.e. sharper and better colour contrast) and I think reducung the number of "optional extras" to just one category will suffice, since English encyclopedias mention only two "levels" of inclusion. Perhaps you could use this image as the basis of a Scandinavia map, showing the mainland portion of the three monarchies in a dark shade and the remaining areas of the Nordic Council members in a lighter shade? bucket-filling[edit]

I see it was you who uploaded the very useful "joined with thin lines" version of Image:BlankMap-World-v5.png. I just made a list of coordinates, now posted at commons:Image talk:BlankMap-World-v5.png, and wrote a short perl script that reads a list of country names and percent figures, and outputs a fu-script of bucket fill commands that can be piped into the GIMP. At the moment I figure that French Guiana, New Caledonia, Greenland and Puerto Rico should maybe be filled automatically according to France, Denmark and USA, since the percentage for these countries would also include those territories? Map Request[edit]

Hi,

Would it be possible for you to make a map on the regions of Asia for football/soccer, as listed on Asian_Football_Confederation#Regions.

Colours up to you, I think there's a total of 6 colours needed.
Could you make the Central and South Asian Countries a different colour, but indicate that there are part of the same regional federation?
Make Australia a different colour from the rest, and indicate that it is an 'invitee' member of the Asean Football Federation.
Make the Maldives Republic two 'stripy' coloured, one the same as the colours for the South Asian nations, and one the same as the Asean Football (South East Asian) countries, indicating it is assigned to the Asean region by the AFC, but takes part in South Asian nations tournaments.
Make Iran and Kyrgyzstan also two stripy coloured, one the same as the Central Asian countries (as it is assigned there by the AFC), and the other colour the sane as the West Asian countries, (as it takes part in tournaments with West Asian countries).

New map request: Jutland[edit]

Hello there! Just in case you are open for new requests, here's another article that I would like to see adorned with a better map: the Jutland Peninsula. I want the map to help illustrate an upcoming edit by me which will help explain how Lauenburg to the south and North Jutlandic Island are commonly reckoned as part of Jutland, even though technically they are not. Also, the current map does not show the Limfjorden as physically disecting the peninsula. My vision for the project would be to endeavour to delimit the extent of the peninsula physically, ethno-culturally and administratively. To illustrate this: The northern delimitation would be either the Skagerrak (administratively) or the Limfjord (geographically, since 1825); the southern extremity is either the isthmus (geographically) which arguably disects Holstein, or a line following the Eider River and the Danevirke defensive wall (the traditional ethnic boundary between the North Germanic tribes and the continental Germanic peoples proper) or the modern political border as established by plebiscite in 1920.

Wheel of Fortune[edit]

On your map of the world's Wheel of Fortunes, as well as the article, the Russian show Pole Chudes (Поле Чудес) is not shown, while it is listed on the game show list as being a version of Wheel of Fortune in Russia. However, I am not sure if it really is a version of Wheel of Fortune, as I found a site with pictures of it, and I can see the area where the letters come up, but I do not see a wheel. Yes, it probably shouldn't be listed until somebody verifies it. But maybe the person who listed it on the Game show list knows more about the show than I do. My compliments. That map is a fine piece of work. A few details are slightly off, so I've placed a few comments on Talk:Jutland. But all in all, nice work. It you need more material regarding the rivers, Dannevirke, or other issues please drop me a mail, and I'll send you a few scans. I'm looking for a map that covers modern Denmark, Schleswig and southern Sweden, preferably with Bornholm in the right location. If you do, I'd be very interested since I've (unfortunately) promised to try producing a better map of Viking Denmark for the page on Hedeby. (I'm saying unfortunately, since I'm good at collecting material, but not very skilled in the graphics department.) But if you have any such maps I'd very much like to hear about it. Thanks for your reply. It is much better now. The Dannevirke line is a bit incorrect, btw (my fault probably - the links were too close-up, sorry.) The line extends a few km south west from the city of Schleswig / Hedeby, and is normally "extended" straight west until it hits the west coast south of Husum, but north of the Eiderstedt peninsula. This line marks the former location of a region of wetlands, and this was the historical border between Danish and German settlement. The wetlands could be flooded and were used as an extension of the wall. In eastern Schleswig, the peninsula Schwansen spoke Danish until around 1750, so if you're making a map of settlements, it belongs on the Danish side of the map (down to the small Viking wall on the narrow base on the peninsula.) It is a very common oversight.

I see your point about the islands. It might be a matter of taste if the North Jutland Island should be coloured or not. The region *was* a part of Jutland from around 1200 until ca. 1825 when a storm opened the small isthmus connecting the peninsula to the mainland.

Regarding Hedeby, yes, most of the errors could be corrected. It's pretty much the sum of minor errors that bug me. Warning: long list approaching :)

1) the location of Hedeby (minor error, but it is the topic of the article) 2) Denmark's southern border (= the River Eider) and Denmark's eastern border (it extends too far into Småland, on the other hand, all of the coast line was under Danish control during the age when Hedeby flourished. The Danish-Swedish border was demarcated around 1050 (see map), but it is unlikely to have changed much (except near modern Göteborg) since the area was described as a dense forest with little population. 3) the south west coast of Schleswig before the land sank (problem is that this one is disputed.) I've been able to find two good images on the web [3] and ([4] (bottom, the last one is the 17th century situation). The coast line changed a lot due to storms and floods in the late Middle Ages. What is documented is that Pellworm and Nordstrand were originally one island, at least twice the size of the current islands (most of it destroyed in the seventeenth century). It is speculated that this island included the island of Föhr in the early Middle Ages. The island was destroyed in 1362 when the dykes collapsed. Other examples: Tønder was originally located on the coast of the mainland but is now 10 km inland. Husum was the other way around: originally an inland town, but now located on the coast. In Danish maps, the maximum extend of the disputed area is usually marked and labelled "sunken land, borders uncertain". 4) The map doesn't show the six Viking ring castles nor the Kanhave Canal on Samsø (in central Denmark, extending east-west on the narrowest point of the island). 5) A few German typos: "Jütland" -> Jylland (or Jutland), "Sjæland" -> Sjælland (or Zealand). (If the names are changed into English, it should be Funen (Fyn) and Scania (Skåne) as well. I admit, it is a long list, and my main problem with the map is pretty much the lack of the Viking locations combined with the number of minor errors. That would be really great, but just remember that the Hedeby map is not a life- or death-issue :) The new line is a good depiction of the old border between the settlements. It is a very frequent misunderstanding, but Dannevirke does not extend all the way to the Eider. The region between Dannevirke and the Eider was the object of a few minor wars with Charlemagne, but the border very quickly settled at the Eider. Dannevirke was only the border for a very short time, and this is why Danes refer to the Eider as our historical border. You've also fixed the Wadden Sea very well. One tiny thing is that the location SW of "SI" in "North Frisia" is actually an island (Nordstrand) but that's a very minor point. All in all, it is a very fine map. My compliments. Looks fine to me. Btw, Nordstrand is connected to the mainland by two dams, but it is still considered to be an island. Perhaps this will change is 50 years time or so, when more land is reclaimed near it. Langeness, Sylt, and Rømø are also connected to the mainland. Regards. Yes... from List of National Basketball Association players by country. Like if 1-5 players came from country A, it would be colored X, or if 5-10 came from this one color it that. Tazzie map[edit]

Yes, follow the link that says "About GMT". There's a further link on that page to the GMT homepage, and in very big writing, it says that the mapping tools are released under GNU. As for the copyright marker, I believe that's for the page, its layout, or the text, or whatever.

Beijing 2008 Olympics map[edit]

Hi. I was just creating a heading for the venues to be at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, using the 2006 page as a guideline, when I saw the map you created for the Turin venues. I've noticed that you are great at mapmaking, and I'd like to know if you'd be interested in creating a map for these games too. A nice map showing the locations of all the venues (just mouse over the yellow dots) is located here. If you could, put the name of the venue, possible a sports symbol, whatever.
