"on board" vs "aboard"

As per this edit to Killer whale attacks on humans, as far as I can tell, there is no established rule that "aboard" is for people while "on board" is for cargo. None of the dictionaries I checked noted this distinction, the same as in the grammar forums I found except for an odd comment or two, which were often contradicted by other comments. It appears there is no such universal rule. I like your edit and think it sounds better but it's a matter of taste and style, not grammar. Jason Quinn (talk) 13:57, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
