Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Membership Wiki Update

Hello,

I just saw your notice about my addendum to the article mentioned in the subject line of this missive. I am not particularly deft when it comes to HTML, and as such did not add a source. However, I do have proof that the edit I made is defensible and based on a credible source.

Thank you

June 2016. Hello, and thank you for deleting the malicious text posted on my page this week. It’s frustrating that someone can continually post the same non-neutral, malicious text. Thanks again. kukani —Preceding undated comment added 07:51, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Orlando nightclub Terrorist Attack

Why do you insist on changing every edit to incorrectly reflect the terrorist attack at Pulse nightclub in Orlando?RTR82 (talk) 14:50, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

@RTR82: Because it not a neutral title for the shooting and doesn't fit the encyclopedic tone expected on Wikipedia, e.g. Wikipedia refers to 9/11 as the "September 11 attacks" not the "September 11 al-Qaeda terrorist attacks". It also is an overly simplistic summary of potential motivations, as the body of the article makes it very clear that while Mateen pledged his allegiance to Daesh the CIA found no evidence of any links with the organisation earlier than a few hours before he started his attack. RA0808 talkcontribs 17:27, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

References were added to the article, though I had to wade through a pile of Wikipedia links to find them. The article is still very advertise-y and somewhat of a mess, but I think there are sufficient references to meet a notability claim. I'll leave it to others to clean up the article and for you to decide if you want to take it to AfD. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:04, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Cambridge Spy Ring

Whilst to a computer programme, my alterations might appear like vandalism - they are actually well known FACT. The first alteration is as listed here (the word "cop" should be "traffic cop" - which WOULD have been my THIRD re-edit) - the second changes "Burgess was recalled..." to "Burgess got himself recalled..." - which is ALSO fact. All three of these alterations are necessary to make your account ACCURATE. Whether you correct them or not is up to you. I have done MY duty. And I followed YOUR instructions to re-edit AGAIN - for which I do NOT appreciate being accused of SERIAL VANDALISM. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Morpheusatloppers (talkcontribs) 07:05, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

Teki

Hi RA0808,

I'm new to all of this and if your able to help me I sure would appreciate it. I'm trying to figure out how exactly I should be doing things. I have footage on YouTube where the artist is performing on Good Morning New Zealand. I just don't know how I go about using it to prove the source is reliable. Could you help me? Shawnh25 (talk) 20:56, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

@Shawnh25: Hi and thanks for the message! Generally videos posted to video sharing sites such as YouTube are discouraged under the External Links Policy (see WP:YT), and would not be considered a reliable source. I'd recommend looking for news articles that back-up points made in the article to cite, more info can be found in WP:RS. RA0808 talkcontribs 21:00, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
Could you look at Teki again if you have time? See if this helps. Thanks Shawnh25 21:29, 11 July 2016 (UTC)Shawnh25 (talk)
@Shawnh25: Sorry Shawn, none of those are reliable sources. You need news articles or something of that calibre. RA0808 talkcontribs 21:55, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

ANI discussion

There is a topic in which you were involved being discussed at WP:ANI. The topic is concern over Adam9007's removal of speedy deletion templates. You are welcome to join the discussion here. Toddst1 (talk) 20:04, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

EMANcipation (film)  : Your deletion of the synopsis

I do not see how this synopsis can be a violation of any copyrights since I wrote this synopsis. Please explain why you delete the synopsis.

Best regards, — Preceding unsigned comment added by MalteKarlBuelow (talkcontribs) 04:07, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

@MalteKarlBuelow: It is a copyright violation because it is directly copied from the film's official website and there is no evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder please see the procedure for donating copyrighted materials. Additionally, if I may ask: what precisely is your connection to this movie? RA0808 talkcontribs 16:34, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello

I saw the edits made by you which cuts down the details on the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiva_Balak_Misra page. I made my best effort to ensure that the content was veriable and well referenced. The information was valuable and the edit removes all the details including references to publications in Nature and Earth and News references in BBC.

Is there something I can such that the information remains complete? I am afraid the edited version is not accurate and seems is written by a person who doesnt know facts as well. I am available to reply to or provide references for any mention in my edit on this data if it helps: 18:54, 16 July 2016‎ 223.179.152.210 (talk)‎ . . (9,980 bytes) (+77)

Statements like "After the discovery, Misra left his research career and returned to India, where he taught in colleges and universities, and opened a school in his native village" is not very apt Misra in fact left Canada and returned to india to start a school but also continued his research career in India along and retired as a Professor of Gelology from Kumaun University in Nainital in late 90s. He has several path-breaking publications in India as well to his credit. He is also awarded in India for his social work - an aspect which seems to have been removed through the edit.

I'd like to request you to please restore the version to 18:54, 16 July 2016‎ 223.179.152.210 (talk)‎ . . (9,980 bytes) (+77) which is factually correct.

thanks a lot, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thoughtful2000 (talkcontribs) 19:04, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

@Thoughtful2000: Hello and thanks for your message. The reason that I reverted your additions is because there were significant portions that were unsourced, but primarily because it was not written in a neutral point of view or a proper encycopledic tone. On reflection, I will restore the content but will also be tagging for it to be reviewed by other editors. RA0808 talkcontribs 19:08, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Re: Vic Viper (band)

You messaged me regarding "disruptive" editing. I am an inexperienced user, and this is the reason I was going back and forth so much. Additionally, I would hope that the page is not deleted, as it decribes a noteworthy and popular band in the video game music cover scene, such as the Minibosses or The Advantage. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dasaten (talkcontribs) 04:44, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

@Dasaten: Please see the general notability guideline and notability guidelines for bands for what constitutes notability on Wikipedia. RA0808 talkcontribs 16:06, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Re: Michael Lavigne

I am BRAND new to this process and that page is a work in progress (and I have a 2-yr-old who keeps interfering :)). Give me a few days and I will finish. Michael Lavigne is a real person, a real author, and I'll get his page properly and thoroughly cited asap. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jenflick (talkcontribs) 08:03, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

@Jenflick: Hi Jen, and welcome to Wikipedia! The PRODBLP (PROposed Deletion of a Biography of a Living Person) template has an automatic seven day grace period built in, so as long as you add a reliable source by July 26th it won't be deleted. Please don't take the tag personally, it's to ensure that all biographies of living people on Wikipedia contain at least one source. RA0808 talkcontribs 15:55, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

You said there is a proposed deletion due to a lack of references, but I have six references from the subject's campaign website, an employer's website, and the Office of the California Secretary of State. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Acereznik (talkcontribs) 04:42, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello,

I do have a COI with the subject; however, I am remaining impartial and objective. I discussed her failed run for the California State Senate (not the proudest moment of her career), and I did not try to spin it in any way. I could have placed her name first on my election results table; however, I placed her third because she placed third in the election. I am making/will make her Wikipedia article completely objective—a way to inform viewers of her life, work, successes, and failures.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Acereznik (talkcontribs) 04:50, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

@Acereznik: Thank you for adding references and correctly removing the BLPPROD tag, and also for freely stating your conflict of interest. Please note that disclosure of any conflicts of interest are required under Wikipedia policies. What precisely is your connection to Janice Kamenir-Reznik? RA0808 talkcontribs 18:13, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

She is my aunt. She has done so much charitable work in her life that it is about time she has a Wikipedia page. There is plenty more to add on her, such as her educational history, her environmental lawyering profession, more on her worldwide organization, Jewish World Watch, and her work to promote gender equality. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Acereznik (talkcontribs) 06:47, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

@Acereznik: Thank you for clarifying the nature of your COI, I've placed the appropriate tag on the article's talk page. I'm going to ask that you do not make any further edits to the page directly since the conflict of interest policy strongly discourages editing in areas where you have a conflict of interest. Any further changes should be requested on the article's talk page where another editor will review it (more information on how to make a request can be found at WP:COIREQ). haunted Knoxville Ghost tours

Thanks for taking a look at my article, "Haunted Knoxville Ghost Tours". But what must I do to get it published? I have published another article in the past but I don't recall it being this difficult. Thanks for your input. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mwilmichael (talkcontribs) 13:08, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

@Mwilmichael: I would recommend going through the Articles for Creation process. RA0808 talkcontribs 19:55, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

I've cleaned to page up after you marked it for speedy deletion. Will you re-eval and let me know what you think? Carcioffio (talk) 22:49, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

It has apparently already been deleted, since the deleting administrator did not feel that the changes were sufficient to make it non-promotional. RA0808 talkcontribs 19:46, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Socks and DENY

If it is obvious, you can just post at my talk page or that of another admin and we can block and WP:DENY. Often, there is no real need to open the SPI. Also, if an IP has not edited for months, we can usually ignore reporting it. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:25, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
