Bailey Bridge etc

Hi. I live in Christchurch and following your contributions to Wikipedia with interest. I am interested in the precise location of MEXE. It was apparently originally "The Barracks" built in the 1800s to house Lord Tregonwell's private army. No doubt this gave the name to "Barrack Road". According to http://www.hengistbury-head.co.uk/stanpit.htm, MEXE was at Bargates which may be slightly wrong. According to Donald Bailey, MEXE is now the Barrack Road retail park but cant see any cited reference to support this.--Penbat (talk) 07:58, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

I can remember MEXE in Barrack Road, it became MVEE before closing, but there is still a test area run by QinetiQ (at least I think its still there) behind the retail park. The barracks gatehouse is also still there, it is the hairdressers at the end of dragoon way. There is some information about the closure of MEXE from hansard here [1] Also there is book on Christchurch Barrack which would I imagine show the exact location. Thanks Phil I will look into this. On another matter, there is a WW2 Pillbox in the middle of Mudeford Woods. Is there any info anywhere about why it is there and also a list of pillboxes in the area. Thanks.--Penbat (talk) 10:54, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

MEXE was in Barrack Road as you (Phil Whiston) say and this was where the Bailey Bridge was developed. I know nothing of a MEXE site at Bargates and I think that that information is probably incorrect. Sorry for butting in.--Ykraps (talk) 13:42, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Old Harry Rocks

Twin Sails Bridge

The problem is that there is no source for 87 degrees please read: WP:verifiability in particular: Verifiability on Wikipedia is the ability to cite reliable sources that directly support the information in an article. All information in Wikipedia must be verifiable, but because other policies and guidelines also influence content, verifiability does not guarantee inclusion. The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—whether readers can check that material in Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether editors think it is true. Studland Heath

I am very new to Wikipedia, so forgive me if this is the wrong way to contact you.

I just have to make it clear, that even with your own source, Studland and Godlingston heaths are NOT the primary inspiration for Egdon heath. (and I quote) "In his Return of the Native, Hardy places the fictional Egdon Heath further west, but today it is here in Purbeck that we can best enjoy the uninterrupted vistas of gently undulating hills covered in purple heather he describes."

This clearly shows that whilst you could describe the look of his blasted heath by comparing it to Studland and Godlingston, the heaths further west, (and from my own research and experience) specifically the heaths surrounding his birthplace at Higher Bockhampton (specifically Black, Duddle and Puddletown heaths), are his Main inspiration.

Further discussion is appreciated, but I have to say that the article should not be changed to show that Studland and Godlingston heaths were his primary inspiration.
