You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!

This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! 1 Wikipedians from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, New York City, and Pittsburgh have been invited.

I'm leaving this message as you're listed as a current participant of WikiProject Business. I was informed yesterday that the current World Factoring Yearbook (circa £150) is now free for download as an ebook. It's a matter of filling out this form. I'm not sure if you'll find this useful as a reliable source, but I thought I should let you know that it's freely available online. I apologise in advance if this doesn't interest you! Your HighBeam account is ready![edit]

Good news! You now have access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research. Here's what you need to know:

  • Your account activation code has been emailed to your Wikipedia email address.
    • Only 407 of 444 codes were successfully delivered; most failed because email was simply not set up (You can set it in Special:Preferences).
    • If you did not receive a code but were on the approved list, add your name to this section and we'll try again.
  • The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
  • To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1; 2) You’ll see the first page of a two-page registration. 3) Put in an email address and set up a password. (Use a different email address if you signed up for a free trial previously); 4) Click “Continue” to reach the second page of registration; 5) Input your basic information; 6) Input the activation code; 7) Click “Finish”. Note that the activation codes are one-time use only and are case-sensitive.
  • If you need assistance, email "help at highbeam dot com", and include "HighBeam/Wikipedia" in the subject line. Or go to WP:HighBeam/Support, or ask User:Ocaasi. Please, per HighBeam's request, do not call the toll-free number for assistance with registration.
  • A quick reminder about using the account: 1) try it out; 2) provide original citation information, in addition to linking to a HighBeam article; 3) avoid bare links to non-free HighBeam pages; 4) note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate
  • HighBeam would love to hear feedback at WP:HighBeam/Experiences
  • Show off your HighBeam access by placing {{User:Ocaasi/highbeam_userbox}} on your userpage
  • When the 1-year period is up, check applications page to see if renewal is possible. We hope it will be.

Thanks for helping make Wikipedia better. Enjoy your research! Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 20:56, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Stories Project[edit]

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I'd very much like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project, or if you know anyone with whom I should speak.

Thank you for your time,

Victor Grigas

EduWiki Conference 5-6 September in Leicester, UK[edit]

I am writing to you as you have signed up to the Education Meetup at Wikimania 2012 and perhaps are interested in how Wikipedia links to education. Wikimedia UK is now running a education related event that may be of interest to you: the EduWiki Conference on 5-6 September in Leicester. This event will be looking at Wikipedia and related charitable projects in terms of educational practice, including good faith collaboration, open review, and global participation. It's a chance to talk about innovative work in your institution or online community, and shape the future of Wikimedia UK's work in this area!

The conference will be of interest to educators, scholarly societies members, contributors to Wikipedia and other open education projects, and students.

For details please visit the UK Chapter Wiki.

Please feel welcome to register or promote within your network.

Is there some way to get the word spoiler in there before the sentence with balefire in it? I didn't know that particular plot point, so when it was included in the short description it caught me off guard and ruined some of the book series for me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.57.30.144 (talk) 15:15, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for the inconvenience of the matter but according to Wikipedia's spoiler policy, that content has as much of a right to be there as any other content and should not be treated differently. Peter.C • talk • contribs 17:57, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Gunshot wound to liver.jpg[edit]

Declined the speedy deletion tag per your comments at talk. I'd advise you to tag such images with OTRS pending in cases like this. I'm leaving a note at the OTRS noticeboard; a volunteer will either confirm permission or delete it because permission doesn't exist. Nyttend (talk) 18:17, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS agent Madman says that the ticket in question (2008050410003261) is strictly applicable to File:Pulmonary contusion.jpg and doesn't give permissions for any other images, so I've had to delete the gunshot image. Nyttend (talk) 20:04, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your vacation end day[edit]

I have changed your vacation ending day in this edit. Peter.C is currently, or is about to be, on vacation in real life from 17 August 2012 until 27 June 2012. Since it is a best guess change, if I see you are not back till September 01, I'll change it to "Ending date=Unknown" or something like that with link to this talk page message! --Tito Dutta 13:46, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can see your last contribution was on August 20, so I hope you have seen this message. Still, if I see no edit till September 2, I'll change the date of "vacation end" to "unknown" or revert my edit back to your edit with link to this talk page post! --Tito Dutta 23:08, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

trauma scales (removed)[edit]

The trauma page had the sevirity scale that is used by MDA , Hatzalah , Israeli MEDevac and private EMS yet you have reverted that.

The information had been taken from :

trafic accidents related[edit]

That scale is an offical scale that is also use by the Israeli CBS (here an example traffic acidents by sevirty of the innjury) and media reporting in Israel

Examples for the media (in the English language using that scale) -

  • three others sustain lightly injuries when Palestinian
  • sustained light to moderate injuries.
  • [3]'Three people died from poisoning cases reported in 2011, while 176 suffered serious injury and 692 suffered moderate injury; 8,384 were lightly injured. The others either exhibited no effects or information is not available about the extent of their injuries.'
  • [4] in intensive care with a moderate injury from a shard that penetrated the area near his stomach. Beyar said Batlin and his friend "arrived bandaged and had received reasonable care in Bulgaria."

Yet you have removed that, afaik the rule for non English source is to accept when no other can be found. I understand that my text could language issues and I belive that can be ok, yet to remove an offial scale just becouse it is in a diffrent language and used outside of English speaking countries is a mistake.109.226.26.130 (talk) 11:14, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Trauma (medicine), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Lancet and Human resource (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).
