New NBA standings template

Hi, thanks for keeping all of the NBA standings and game logs up to date. I'm looking to employ a new template in order to ease the process of updating the standings. With it, you would only need to update the conference templates—no need to update the divisions separately. Here is the code (ignore the Western conference code I commented out). The three leader rows, the five numerical columns, and the order of the teams would need to be updated. Is it okay if I employ it as soon as possible? —LOL ^T/_C 06:51, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

PDT, I noticed you changed the Thunder's Pre-Season game logo on the 2010-11 season page. It looks good, but I noticed that when trying to view or edit, you just get a message that the template hasn't been created. Bulls depth charts

Those depth charts you added seem to contain some errors. Look at basketball-reference.com to see who was actually starting those games. (For example, Luc Longley didn't start at all in 94-95.) I don't like depth charts in general, since they force us to pigeonhole players into single positions, and we have to make a lot of difficult judgement calls. (I thought there was consensus at WT:NBA not to use them, but if you want to bring up the issue there, feel free.) Zagalejo^^^ 04:40, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Well, there were other issues besides Longley . But a few general points: 1) In other parts of the article, we at least have the flexibility to describe players as "guard-forwards", "forward-centers", etc. But the depth charts force us into a tighter classification scheme. 2) Depth charts don't do a good job reflecting the various roster changes you'd see throughout a season - injuries, trades, slumps, etc. A coach's rotation can change dramatically over a few months. 3) I realize that other sources have their own depth charts, but they don't always agree. And no matter who puts it together, a depth chart is going to involve some weird, arbitrary decisions. These depth charts are inherently flawed. Basketball positions aren't as rigidly defined as positions in some other sports.
