July 2021[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Virtual choir has been reverted.
Your edit here to Virtual choir was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLp-vaGljBEs3MX7xBsnkTjgEJceDGyUWx) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. music or video) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 02:01, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ben BEM[edit]

Please note that "BEM" should not appear in the article. See MOS:POSTNOM which says:

"Post-nominals should not be added except to a biography subject's own lead sentence, in an infobox parameter for post-nominals, when the post-nominals themselves are under discussion in the material, and in other special circumstances such as a list of recipients of an award or other honor. For example, "Brian Lara TC OCC AM" should not appear in an article like Warwickshire County Cricket Club. "

I know that "Ben England BEM" is used in all internal SIC material, but that's a law unto itself.

(Now must stop editing and go off and rehearse some more opera choruses before getting stuck into Summer School week 3 ahead of Spem... aaargh.) Happy editing, and, presumably, singing! PamD 17:15, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Inline links[edit]

Hallo Nikki, I notice that you've added a lot of "Inline external links" to Virtual choir. Please don't: use references instead: see WP:ELPOINTS: "With rare exceptions, external links should not be used in the body of an article". I'll tidy these ones up. PamD 09:23, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Pam! Sorry - still trying to get to grips with all the guides! If I do anything wrong, please just shout and I'm happy to fix it and bear in mind for future reference! Thanks again for your help! Nikkimedia (talk) 09:25, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That has taken much longer than I meant it to. I'm not sure that the during/post covid split really works, so much duplication (and I think The Collective may still be functioning, have emailed them to check!). I think it might be time to split out the article on COTE, and/or move the detail about the Mahler to Symphony_No._8_(Mahler)#Subsequent_performances, and we might be able to sort out enough about Ben England for his own article... but I really need to do some Real Life stuff. PamD 10:29, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Pam, yes I agree entirely on all points and I really do appreciate all the help. Sorry it took so long! I didn't mean to create so much work for you. I don't mind doing some rearranging, creating new articles, etc but I am also conscious of my conflict of interest and the discussions we've had on that previously, and also my newbie level of knowledge of guidelines, etc, so I am wary of making too many major changes. Please let me know how you think we should proceed and what I can do to help! (when you have time obviously!!!). Thank you again! Nikkimedia (talk) 10:34, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
One useful thing would be to get a section on the history of COTE onto its own website! Neither the home page nor the "About" page gives any background to the beginnings of the choir. It might be good to have a timeline page, which could combine history (foundation, renaming, etc) with a chronological list of our projects with links to the Concert youtubes of each of them. And, while I think, surely Conor and his team deserve a mention in that "About us" section, as being so central to the choir's activities? Do you have any influence over what goes onto the web page? All the best. PamD 10:59, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We are very much singing from the same hymn sheet on that one, trust me! I will ask again! Nikkimedia (talk) 11:03, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
