Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Dubious Source? The founder of GuitarGeek.Com, Adam Cooper, contributed to GuitarWorld's Vulgar Display of Power Section for 10 years and has interviewed hundreds of famous players regarding their gear. Rig info is from actual interviews with the guitarists and/or their techs. GuitarGeek has been online since 1995 and Adam has deep ties with the music industry and is a credible source. His rig diagrams have appeared in GuitarPlayer, Total Guitar UK, Guitarist, Alternative Press, History of Marshall Amplifiers, Roland/Boss User Guides, Ibanez Steve Vai Jemini & Paul Gilbert Airplane Flanger Instruction Manuals. He has interviewed everyone from Slash to Kirk Hammett to Def Leppard. Jetpack66 (talk) 22:48, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GuitarGeek.Com has interviewed the band numerous times (2000, 2003 & 2006). Those information from those rigs will be posted in the future as references. This information is key to unlocking the sound of many of those records and following tours.

Maybe these equipment references - which most guitarists and fans of the band would find valuable - would be better suited on the individual members pages instead of the main Iron Maiden page? Jetpack66 (talk) 23:02, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry: I restored the removed content. The content I removed is completely incorrect. I removed it previously last month and gave a thorough explanation. It was then re-added without any justification. Please look into these things before you accuse me of falsely removing content.--Nerdtrap (talk) 14:40, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't accuse you of anything except removing content without an edit summary. Please provide a summary when removing content, even if you did so a month ago (other editors don't have perpetual memory). Dwpaul Talk 15:02, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Maiden sale figures - 2014.[edit]

Hi, 'ello - RALFPL on the keys! :) As the article on band's website states, till the first November 2014 the back-catalogue discography was sold in "over 90 million" copies. So same reporting the original website of Robinsons Brewery in the official news focused on the rugby - club promoting (The Trooper Ale as a sponsor for the team). Many, many sources (proffesional on the net) claim the actual album sales are "around 90 to 100 millon copies". I'm into Maiden topic since I was 9 (1984) and painstakingly have been detecting all the data changes for the band. Just recon: 1980 - 1989 (8 albums) 25 mln, 1990 - 1999 (next 8 ones) and 25 mln additional copies, summary - 50 mln, as hav been reported by official band's press release at that period. Here we are the millenium first decate 2000 - 2009, next eight albums and over 27 mln sales during all that decade. We've got last 5 years and additional 4 albums, and half of the summary number of sales to proper decades (12 - 14 mln or so). End of 2014 - over 90 million, the most accuracy and relevant data!!!

You've written the source for the data is some kind of promo stuff. Oh, I don't think so - the promo infos are about the sponsoring and part of Maiden management in the promotion for "The Trooper Beer" with rugby games. But - infos about band's achievements are basically true in fact!

I can agree you must select the infos for the good quality of the band's wikisite - but, I think you are too rigorous and unhesitating. The data on the bios of many other bands on the Wiki are compiled from: local concert reviews, cashboxes infos from promo stuff, random media articles and many not considered foreign-languaged sources and sites. And... that's all right - no one changes all the data for the whole years! You may visit the Metallica site on the Wiki: 120 mln sales according to (...) Turkish promo article from the last concert. For the author of that sit - the source is believable, but it's only the "promo stuff source" - completely not official on Metallica's site.

Maybe you think Maiden should be "more local band" and the threshold of "over 90 mln" is a shame them, but - that's true. I'm sure new press release and next official band's bio will deliver the good news of over 90 mln sales at the moment of premiere for the new, the 16th album. Maybe we know something interesting around the Chistmas this year, just from the new FC Mag #99.

I think we must contemplate the ultimate data change on the Maiden wiki-site and adding the number of "over 90 mln" in place of unactual data from the newspaper article from 2010.

I have opened a discussion here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Iron_Maiden) to discuss the sales figures. Please believe that my edits are only made in the best interests of the article itself. When someone edits an article I watch I always check the validity of the claim and the sources used. The reversions I make based on record sales are in line with Wikipedia guidelines and consensus reached by other members a while ago. You should also note that the article does not state that Iron Maiden have only sold 85 million records, but that it is the figure reported by the New York Times in 2010.
I am not stating that there is no truth to Iron Maiden's claim of their own sales, but the fact that it is used in a press release from the band damages its validity. Any press release relating to the band is going to talk them up and their sales; don't think that, just because the article is about the beer, they are not also promoting the band as well. Wikipedia guidelines oppose the use of primary sources because of this reason. Other Wikipedia articles may use primary sources, but that does not make it right to follow suit.
Also, please do not make accusations about my thoughts on the band's success. I find it deeply insulting and it certainly will not alter my stance on the issue.--Nerdtrap (talk) 21:05, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I would like to say "BIG SORRY" to you. I've not had the bad intentions to say something you have recognized as the "accusation". Maybe I'm too honest and too mindblowed with Maiden-related problems. I really under impression with your involvement for making Maiden Wiki- Site so perfect and professional, it's the grat stuff. ONCE AGAIN - SORRY, IT WAS A BIG MISUNDERSTANDING - do not be angry at myself, please. So, I'm the Maiden super fan too and I'd like to help you with some improvements and make the site as perfect as it's possible nowadays. I'd like to say a BIG THANKS for the rapid and competent answer and showing the right space (link too) for topic discussion about sales figures for the band. Hi, just look at the official press release at the band's "home page (section NEWS - "Book Of Souls) the Parlaphone Rec. said band's albums has been sold in "over 90 mln copies so far" - see the bottom of the site, please. The official statement of the band's record label and management are the most believeable source and respected all over the whole world's media and Wikipedia, so I'm checked many wikisites of major bands, sales figures are based on official statements data not the newspeapers or the journalists' articles in some magazines, even if the articles were published in "New York Times" or "Daily Telegraph".

Check the band's "Book of the Souls" news (bottom line) and change the "85 mln data" please. Since five years we all are still in 2010 (yeeeaap) - and many sites after English version of Maiden Wiki site - echoed the old datas as a mantra - SHAME! :( — Preceding unsigned comment added by RALFFPL (talkcontribs) 19:36, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
