Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: Promotional usernames are disallowed; see WP:IU. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. Ros0709 (talk) 07:32, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Peter Myers, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Reaction to comments[edit]

I thought that being a candidate made me notable by Wikipedia guidelines. If that's not the standard, then I also support deleting the Peter Myers page. I also didn't like writing about myself, which is why I kept it as short and objective as possible. No problem to me if the page is deleted.

The reason I chose my user name was to clearly identify me as an interested party as I created or edited pages. I did not want to mention myself under the veil of anonymity. I think it is in the best interest of Wikipedia readers that if I edit a page about the election I participate in, I should clearly label myself. My thinking was not to promote myself through my user name, but rather to use it as a tool of full disclosure. For this reason, I plan to keep my user name for the duration of the campaign.
