IMHO the article should be structured as follows:
- General introduction with details of phonetics, language etc. and how this rtelates to the meaning of salat.
- Describe the purpose of prayer in Islam - maybe mention the direct contact with Allah.
- Classify salat into 4 types and briefly describe each class with links to main articles for the 4 types. Reason: the article is too long otherwise, and other things important need to be mentioned, such as preparing for salat and invalidation of salat. One apparent drawback of this plan is that the table of the 5 daily salat would most likely be moved to another article (Fard salat), but let's keep in mind that this article is not about the 5 daily salat, but salat in general.
- Describe preparations for salat (ablutions, cleanliness of dress and place of prayer) and how to generally perform salat.
- Describe congregational prayers.
- Mention invalidation of prayer.
- Any other relevant information.
