Article on Gary R. Englert

Hello. I'm going through and cleaning up the Gary R. Englert article. I added an infobox and am in general trying to make it fit the Wikipedia style. The infobox is missing some information like the date and place of birth, rank, and service years. If you have any of that information, and a reliable source to support that information, the article would benefit tremendously.

While cleaning up the rest of the article I've begun to notice a problem. The references you've supplied aren't connected to the sections of the article they are supposed to support (like footnotes). If you could tell me here or on the talk page for the article how the references are supposed to line up then that will make my job easier. Never mind, I figured out the references. The problem is that some of them did not support the claim that Englert was involved in those projects.

Finally, I'm guessing that you are Gary Englert? If so, please read the article about conflicts of interest on Wikipedia. This doesn't mean that you can't help with the article but that you should be careful how you edit and realize that your personal knowledge of your life is not a good enough source for the information to be included in the article.

Update: There are a lot of claims that need sources to back them up. All the claims about military service and much of his work with Veterans groups. Because this is a biography of a living person, claims that don't have adequate reliable sources to back them up can, and in most cases will, be deleted.

Thanks for filling in some more information in the article. I just want to mention again that all the stuff labelled with "citation needed" or "unreferenced section" will most likely be deleted in about month. When it comes to living people Wikipedia is very strict about having reliable sources to back up any claims about them. What this means is that if no good sources are found between now and then, the article will become a lot shorter than it is now. This is nothing personal against you or Mr. Englert, it's just how Wikipedia operates. SQGibbon (talk) 20:40, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Request for Undeletion of Page - Gary R. Englert

Thank you for your advice concerning my request for undeletion of the aforementioned article; I found Wikipedia's instruction to be confusing and thought the page could be restored pending a response from CGG and further discussion.

Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged - see our guideline Writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. West Orange, NJ notable residents

Greetings. A few days ago, I made an edit to the page to remove an entry from the "Notable Residents" and you reverted the edit. Upon checking the page history, it would appear that the resident in question inserted the entry (himself - as Grenglert) back on 28 July 2010. The page to which this entry is linked has been recently removed from Wikipedia for non-notability so I'm wondering why you think that this person belongs in the "notable residents" category. Article on a New Jersey Activist

I assume that you're referring to Gary R. Englert. I've seen the edits to the West Orange article and followed the back-and-forth, and it would appear that it might be possible to write an article, but seems to be in no way certain that this is the case. The first thing that I would suggest, regardless of the subject, is to start assembling the sources from newspapers, magazines and books about the source, with web links from authoritative sources also included. The key is to find sources that are *about* the subject; not ones that mention the subject in passing, though those may be appropriate to fill in some of the blanks. Without a number of sources that are primarily about the subject it will be very hard to write an appropriate article. Let me know once you've collected the sources or if you have any questions.
