Previous deletion of a newly translated page

Hi there @Missvain,

I wanted to ask you a question about the article Big Baby Tape, which I worked on translating into the English Wikipedia very recently. A little bit after I published the article, a bot placed a notice saying that a previous draft was deleted. I saw you suggested that it should be deleted because of on passing mentions in Russian. In the Russian Wikipedia, however, there are dozens of sources, so I was confused about your statement. I figured I would ask you about it considering that you were part of the debate. Does a translation not matter at that point? I'm just curious.

(And as a side note if you go and check out the article itself, it will show several referencing errors. Don't be alarmed, as I didn't bring everything over from the Russian Wiki. I placed an expansion tag at the top to alert other editors who might be interested in adding to it). Thank you in advance for a reply. Cheers! Losipov (talk) 04:01, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi there - To be honest - I don't remember this and have no recollection. It must have been a long time ago. I really don't have any insight to provide. As long as the citations in any article, regardless of language, are reliable secondary sources that significantly discuss the subject enough to establish notability there shouldn't be any problems. Sorry this is not a very helpful comment! I've made over 230,000 edits in my 16 years as Wikipedian and I honestly don't remember most of them, lol! Missvain (talk) 17:36, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Talk:American Pygmy

Hi! I don't know why you thought there was any point in archiving a couple of brief posts at Talk:American Pygmy, and – on the assumption that that was an error – have undone those edits. But in general, if you do create a talk-page archive, shouldn't you link to it in some way from the talk-page proper? Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:40, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

It wasn't an error. When I find decade+ old threads that no one has touched in ages and have no useful recommendations at this point I archive them. It's totally acceptable policy wise. I did, however, forget to add a talk header, which I did, thanks for the reminder. Thanks for editing Wikipedia. Missvain (talk) 17:12, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

Women in Red 8th Anniversary

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!

Hi,

In the refusal you wrote that the newspaper articles were bought or are promotional items ("no promotional pieces, government websites, event websites, social media, press releases, paid coverage)" . Can you please send me the link where you think it's bought?

Unfortunately I cannot understand that. Most of the sources are from well-known newspapers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

F.e.

National broadcast / tv in Germany: Article at WDR, Documentary at ZDF (1), (2) video post at ZDF interview Bayerischer Rundfunk Post at MDR Sputnik and many more.

Thank you very much!

Guidance on deleted article

Hi, I just updated our IEEE recipients list IEEE Innovation in Societal Infrastructure Award with up to date (through 2024) recipients. This is a highly unique (societal infrastructure) and significant technical award for IEEE. I'm also updating article links to the recipients. All of these recipients are notable academics/scientists/inventors. I am still unclear why the article for one of our recipients Andy Vidan was deleted, and would like to get this page recreated. I am happy to share a draft of the article for your review prior. What is the best approach to re-creating this article? TheNeutron (talk) 02:03, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

@TheNeutron - Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. I'd probably submit it through the Wikipedia:AfC project. It can take time to get it reviewed, but that is probably your best bet. If you recreated it, it could get deleted again. As long as you have reliable secondary sources and the subject meets WP:NOTABILITY then you should be good to go! Thanks for editing Wikipedia! Missvain (talk) 03:01, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick guidance - I went ahead and drafted and submitted Draft:Andy Vidan through Wikipedia:AfC. Hopefully someone gets to this in the coming months. TheNeutron (talk) 20:57, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Missvain:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 2800 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Draft:Balla con noi

Hi. Maybe you can please help me to understand why Draft:Balla con noi keeps getting rejected? I'm a bit at a loss here at this point. As it is, the movie has almost double the sources compared to most Italian films on the EN namespace. Please take List of 2020 box office number-one films in Italy as an example: Tolo Tolo, Hammamet (film), The Best Years (film) all have fewer sources. I added critical reviews from national newspapers/magazines, not outlines, and from all the major Italian film websites. What am I doing wrong, then? Thank you very much. TheFactsChecker (talk) 07:41, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

How is this acceptable when there's a lack of sources as a BLP? – robertsky (talk) 01:49, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

Good evening! The subject has won major music awards and qualifies for inclusion in Wikipedia. I'll tag the article, but, I'm from the inclusionist school - the subject is notable enough for inclusion under WP:NMUSIC so I accepted it. Feel free to nominate it for deletion if you believe the subject fails our notability guidelines. I'll add a few links about the subject I've found in English to the talk page for folks to use to improve the article. Have a good one and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia! Missvain (talk) 02:47, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
Based on what I know, the subject likely fail the notability guidelines. However, the lack of sources in the prose section is troubling, and it should be up to the person submitting writing the draft to cite correctly. Why are we letting such unverified content and also likely of a machine translation of the zhwiki article onto the mainspace. I am sorry, but as a reviewer did you verify the information at the point of reviewing given that the bulk of the awards section does not have references as well? – robertsky (talk) 04:18, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
Feel free to take a look at the citations on the talk page. Feel free to nominate the subject for deletion if you feel that it fails WP:NMUSIC and/or WP:GNG. The sources I provided there verify awards, including the subject's rejection of two major awards and winning Golden Melody Awards, which are the Taiwanese version of the Grammy's. Winning a major award or being nominated for it passes WP:NMUSIC. I'm an inclusionist who believes it's better to have notable content included and improved upon, then not included at all. Again, if you feel the subject fails notability guidelines, feel free to nominate for deletion and see what others say. Have a good one! Missvain (talk) 15:12, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
I apologize. I left out a word in my reply above. Not sure how, but probably deleted it when I rewrote the sentence, I missed out a "not" in my first sentence. "Based on what I know, the subject likely not fail the notability guidelines." I am not questioning the notability, but at when you reviewed the draft, did you check for additional sources? If so, why did you not put them down on the talk page immediately after review was done? Are the rest of your reviews going to be done in the same manner? – robertsky (talk) 15:30, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
and don't get me wrong, I just want to understand your review style. I don't like to drag articles to afd unnecessarily myself. – robertsky (talk) 15:40, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
Got it, all good. Just depends on the article. I've been reviewing AfC for 12 years and reject a lot more than I accept. Missvain (talk) 15:47, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
